It depends if you are looking to race the marathon (run it in your fastest time) or just get round the course and complete the distance. Given that you will be running for 42kms on the day, 40km per week is not a lot. When I trained for the Rotterdam marathon last year, I was putting in 60-80 miles per week with frequent 20 mile long runs on the weekend and a half marathon paced workout (tempo run) midweek. In between, it was about getting in as much volume as possible to build aerobic ability and get used to running tired.
This template worked well for me and got me 2.44 for a first marathon. Just build up gradually and stay injury free. Good luck!

Fredthekid -- those are so good... Inspiration for my own pair (3001). Thanks for sharing.

Flynn's -- the Eternal website is http://www.maeno.co.jp/eternal/. A quick look on this thread will tell you that the 811 is by far the most popular model.

Been meaning to check out The Endless City myself. Looks interesting and thought-provoking. Been marketed quite visibly in London unsurprisingly...

The letter to the new owner is a nice touch. Great work.

I'm also a runner but cringe every time I go out with clubmates and somebody wears running shoes with jeans. Not a good look. Akin to wearing a Timex stopwatch with a formal shirt. Your shoes do appear more like casualwear NBs though.
The FHs are a good fit.

The job market for fresh graduates in the UK is very tough at the moment, with high unemployment amongst that demographic. London is better than the rest of the country but will be fiercely competitive for the good jobs. Your best bet would be to either seek work with a US firm that could post you to London for a stint or pursue postgraduate education at a London university, I would imagine. Good luck - it's a great city to live in.

Def not the right place for the question - most folk with knowledge will not see it. Try the Small Questions thread.

That cover of 1984 is brilliant!
The Plague is an excellent read too. I should revisit both of those books - been so long.

Mouth ulcers. Got a stress-related beast at the front of my gum right and can't even chew gum pain-free.

I was vegan when I was 16 but two weeks on a family holiday in the south of France where all I could find to eat was couscous salad put an end to that. Vegetarianism is a whole lot better - lasted almost a decade with that one and have just had a vegetarian week actually (the result of a meat-heavy trip to Munich!).

I would recommend V over Vineland just because I think it's more similar to gravity's rainbow. in my opinion you can't really go wrong, gravity's rainbow is just dense and a little confusing at first.
I concur. I got more out of V than Vineland and it is more representative of the breadth of reference and style that you will find in Gravity's Rainbow. When I found out that Pynchon wrote V in his early 20s, it blew my mind that someone could simply know that much about so many different subjects (or be an ace researcher for his novels). Plus, in V you will also be introduced to characters such as Pig Bodine who later crop up in Gravity's Rainbow.
Interested to hear about Inherent Vice as well btw. Haven't made it to that one yet.

Skype failed to work for an overseas job interview. Had to switch to shitty old speakerphone on a crackling line.

Paul T that reminds me of guys coming back from london in the 90s having been to duffer of saint george, with their evisu or leepros.
Not to beat the subject to death but this is exactly how it looks to me as well. Still quite common to see older denim gents rocking a tall cuff in London. I like the style on a repro cut.

Ah well, each to their own. I actually think it's quite funny in places and I like how pompous the main character can be. Maybe because I'm a history grad...
For the record, I slogged through Gravity's Rainbow before this book and, excellent though it was, the change of tone is a welcome one. Nice to just read and not be so confused all the time, haha.

I'm about 250 pages in and really enjoying the novel so far. Prior to this, I'd only read the first three Rabbit books by Updike which I thought were excellent. Memories... is a long way from the content of those books although shares some of the themes explored in Rabbit is Rich. An inventive take on the historical novel mixed with musings on the social climate of mid-70s America.

Nice fit Kayodic. Your friend's Momotaro overshirt/chore coat is wicked too. Never seen that one before.
Great work on the Roys Paul T.

You lot have probably seen enough APCs to last a lifetime. Nevertheless...
New Standards worn 6 months. Machine washed with Dr Bronner's at 4 and 6 months:
The area on the right hip got the most wear thanks to my shoulder bag:

Gave my Desert Treks a polish the other night so thought I'd share. Around 18 months of wear iirc...

I use a Hario Mini Mill Slim which was recommended to me by my regular coffee spot. As long as you are making non-espresso coffees, this will be all you need. I just checked Amazon US and it's $37 - a good investment and only a little over your budget.
