  1. I actually thought the Burton/Depp Alice was pretty good.

And yes, I agree that budget and whatnot don't necessarily equate to a bad movie. I'll admit I liked Return of the Killer Tomatoes (so bad it was good).

If there's one movie I don't like that most people do, it's Bull Durham. Now I like baseball, but for whatever reason I just have never cared for this movie.

  2. US silver dollars. I've got both the Morgan and "Peace" variety. Don't have anything older though. I also have one of those little gold dollar coins they made for a few decades after the gold rush began. Started collecting silver dollars when I was 9 and have stuck with it since.

  3. Don't invest heavily in pens since I rarely use them aside from the occasional form or check. Usually just get the cheap Bics. Most everything I do which used to require a pen I now accomplish online/with a computer.

I do use pencils regularly though since I'm into woodworking and still make my templates and blueprints by hand plus I enjoy drawing. I admit to using wooden pencils, but I'm a bit of a snob here--I use Faber Castell's Grip 2001 line. They're pretty near impossible to find sometimes (they used to sell them at this store for teachers but it went out of business; I did stock up when they closed) but are worth the extra cash. Way better than the made in China crap they sell at the office stores.

Also, while it technically doesn't count here, Sakura oil pastels are my preferred brand for art. Won't use anything else.

  4. 1. I worry way too much sometimes, and it holds me back from too much.

    2. Need to get more diligent about working out.

    3. Need to be more willing to take risks, like potentially moving for a better job.

    4. I put too much pressure on myself. It all stems from being a gifted kid in school--sure, it's nice to use the brainpower you have, but then a ton is expected of you everywhere. I thought the reputation would go away in college, but early success made it worse.

    5. I need to better invest cash. Savings accounts don't pay, as I found out the hard way. See #3 for the reason I'm probably holding back from the stock market, then look at #1 for another cause.

  5. Not too many good donut shops around my neck of the woods either. Mostly Dunkin and grocery stores, a few local bakeries but nothing exceptional. Lost both Krispy Kremes in the area.

Used to know of a really good shop near the Pitt campus called Kuntz Bakery, but they closed a while back. I always got my fix whenever I was in the area from the bakery; they could make just about anything donut-wise.

There used to be a good Chinese restaurant with excellent Chinese donuts just a few miles from where I live, but they closed suddenly last month.

  6. Used to be more into gaming, but for whatever reason I have gotten away from it lately. A lot of titles seem to just be sequels or a basic rehash of the same old stuff we've seen since the 32-bit era, just with better graphics/more online capabilities.

That being said, I am intrigued by the new Duke Nukem title. I played the original MS-DOS game years ago. Not sure if I have the hardware for it though--don't own either console it runs on and the only computer I have with a fast enough chip is a MacBook; I'm not sure it has the muscle to handle it graphically if I were to use Windows on it though. I've heard some mixed reviews of the game and would be interested to hear opinions from the masses, not the critics.

  7. Yup, Apple products are more expensive, but I wouldn't call it a "surcharge". Considering you do get iLife included with the package and don't get all the crap many PC companies load their computers up with, it's really not a bad deal. Macs are also pretty reliable and unless there's some major shift with them (like going from PowerPC to Intel) they tend to stay current for a while.

I'm the owner of two MacBooks, one regular model and one Air. Use the Air mostly for business and travel; the regular MacBook is older and usually gets used either for backing stuff up, for work at home that isn't on the Air, and for those times when I need to use a CD on the Air. Pleased with both and probably will wind up getting another MacBook of some sort in a few years once the Core 2 Duo gets phased out for good.

  8. Pretty active gardener here. Have some bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, bush beans, radishes, and cucumbers right now. If I had more room I'd definitely grow corn and pumpkins, maybe squash.

Word to the wise--if you grow tomatoes and live in an area populated with deer, grow marigolds. For whatever reason, deer hate the smell of these flowers. I've got a few of the huge 4' variety in my garden.

Used to have a Norfolk Pine. Had the plant for 11 years. Gave it to a family member to take care of and it came back to me half-dead. Unfortunately, it was beyond revival. I may get another one sometime, since I have nothing in the house right now.

  9. I've been looking for a good freeware/public domain version of the "Baby Teeth" type font for some time now. If anyone has seen one that doesn't fill in gaps in the letters at smaller sizes, I'd love to hear about it. (I'd be willing to pay for a shareware version if it were good enough).

Personally, I'm an "anything but Arial/Times New Roman" sort of guy when it comes to fonts. Not a huge fan of Calibri either. I usually use Palatino for regular correspondence simply because it's different.

  10. Thanks for the answers. My apologies if I'm sounding stupid on here, I'm new to the community and honestly just found this place through a search engine, looking for a place to bolster my fashion knowledge. I'm not even sure if I am in the right place for my types of questions/my level of knowledge (admittedly nowhere near any of yours), but I think I'll get the hang of things around here eventually!

I'll look for the vintage stuff, sounds promising.

  11. Not sure how many of you are into Lacoste. I have been slowly getting into the brand over the past year and have some questions about a few items in their stores/catalog.

    1. Are the buttondowns worth the money? I saw one that looked nice going for $98, which seems a bit steep (I can get a Ralph Lauren for about $20 less).

    2. How often do the colors change? I know Ralph changes the color of the shirts and sometimes the pony logos every year or so. I have four Lacoste polos now and so far I've seen two of the colors on sale for 25% off. (At least logos don't appear to change here).

    3. I've heard a lot about fake Lacoste. So far I've bought their products at a Lacoste store, Macy's, and Nordstrom. What other stores carry legit Lacoste and where should I avoid it? Also, how can I spot a fake?

    4. Does anyone know where I can buy a replacement insert for a Lacoste tennis shoe? Mine are Lacoste Sport, white shoes purchased at Nordstrom last fall for $80 or so. Great sneakers, love the leather on them, but since I've worn them so much I've noticed the insert starting to wear out a bit. They're in good enough shape otherwise that I don't need to replace them.

    5. Speaking of which, what is the best way to remove tempera paint (the kind schoolchildren use) from leather sneakers? A kid at church accidentally splashed the slightest bit on my left shoe a few weeks ago while I was walking by (it's on the inside of my foot so nobody can really see it, but I'm vain enough that I want it gone).

  12. I never got into coffee, not even in college. It saved me a ton of money and I admittedly had to laugh at all my classmates who would complain about "being broke" yet still would walk into the room with a $5 Starbucks or equivalent every day. I'm not a tea drinker either. My eco mug gets filled with ice water every day.

  13. This is my first post here, so bear with me.

I have great difficulty finding good jeans because of the length of my legs. In most pants, I wear a length size 28. My waist is a 32, which seems to be another problem--most of the shorter sizes, if they exist, appear to be for fatter people.

The only brand I can find in 32 x 28 is Gap, which works in the waist and length, but I'm not crazy about the rest of the fit--it's too tight in the upper portion of the jeans.

I've never heard of taking jeans to a tailor (which I have to do with many of my pants, not just the ones I can't find in 28s, but also my Bill's Khakis--my favorite brand) so I guess I'm stuck looking for shorter sizes. Unfortunately, I can't find them in Ralph Lauren, True Religion, even Levi's.

Levi's 32 x 30 USED to work for me, but that was ten years ago. I tried a pair on two years later and they were too long. I still have that old pair, which is model number 550, and I like it better than my Gaps, but I'm not sure how many more years I'll get out of that noble old soldier.

If anyone can point me to some 28 length jeans that fit better than Gap's, please let me know. For the record, I am a proud Pennsylvanian (not sure if there are any locals from the area who know of a good source).
