  1. I appreciate all the support. I'm not really down in the dumps, it's just a bunch of 'aw schucks' and kicking the dirt.

I liked Joseph Hill's fit the most actually - a real vintage looking pair.

It's a good thing I haven't posed in my replica 1930 Arsenal FA Cup jersey, you might have had a different opinion.

  2. I finally dropped my final submission pictures. Man are they sad. I think I somehow managed to come in last place, and that's behind some folks who hardly wore 'em. I don't know if it was the extra loose fit or what. They are looking quite rich and characterful in person, but they just aren't nearly as advanced as, well, pretty much everyones here. If someone two years ago had said that not only would I be contributing to an internet fashion forum let alone participating in a contest where an elite cadre of denim experts and industry insiders would critique and judge the crotch fades on my jeans that I laid down two bones for, and that I would care about the results. I would have maintained that they were completely insane. I suppose that if I wasn't going to win, I'm glad that I didn't destroy them to one step below primacy, as they still obviously have a good many years left to them. Heck, the opportunity to interact and participate in something with so many interesting people was worth the price of admission. After new years, I rotated back in the Lees, 201s and Left Fields. All kick ass, but not the old friend, second skin these ROYs have become. I sure would like some more chambray shorts if ROY would make more/I could afford them. I think they were quite underappreciated.

  3. Worn every dang day. Evenings of workdays, full time every other, and for every adventure and project. One soak, two machine washes. They sure didn't advance much, I think it's either the loose fit, or I'm just a marshmallow softie.

    Front flat.

Rear flat. I have a special understanding with bees, but they still didn't build me any dang combs!

  4. Since it's down to the wire, and my 'wear 'em loose' strategy has slowed down progress in the blue and white Jackson Pollock department, I figured a more agressive washing strategy might be in order.

Alright guys, push the button for the deluxe wash!

    carwash2.jpg

Bleah! Shouldn't have gone for the hot wax...

Results were a success! And just so's y'know, we now have a new one of these in town!

  5. Zissou, I think I have pictures of a couple of those houses from the last time we were down there. We hope to be just that kind of sucker one day. And your moustachio is filling out nicely.

The following are some photographs of the type published in any manly sporting publication one might find in many of your larger cities. Ladies, please do not swoon. They are presented for clinical, and scientific reference and any level of nudity exposed shoud not be considered prurient in any way. Only a representation of the manly physique in its most basic and finely developed form.

The first is the before picture. Whoa Nelly! Look at the pot belly on that stove!

    underwear2.jpg

The second picture shows the after effects of vigorous efforts made whilst wearing the Patent pending ROY Sporting attire.

Not the svelting condition of the anterior, and raised attitude of the gluteal miximisers. (again, ladies... settle down)

    underwear1.jpg

Inquiries as to pamphlets regarding similar manly sporting attire and techniques in photographic detail, may be referenced to rnrswitch, as I was made to understand that he collects such things...

  6. Thanks for the opinions guys, both positive and negative, that is what I asked for. My thoughts on getting a custom boot, like the ones above, was that I wanted something quite outlandish, something with a very specific look. I love the bull hide contrasted with a smoother leather, and I thought chrome excel might be a bit tougher than calf, and easier to get a nice shine on. I know a boot so specific looking as these will divide opinion, and people will either love them or hate them, but all my other footwear is very plain and understated, so I thought it might be time to get just one pair of boots that demand attention. I'll keep the thread updated with what I decide, thanks again for the help and opinions.

I was going to say that with single welt stitching, more muted laces, and ditch the kiltie as the bullhide was bold enough, let that be the star, but if you're trying for flash, there're worse ways to do it.

  7. What can I add, but say that other folks' ROYs are blazing a trail for where I hope mine go as well some day.

I had to get some car bits, so I was off to my favorite (remaining) junk yard. They've been zoning these places out of business left and right around here. This one was a really awesome mudhole. Previous pickers made stepping stones through the scum lakes with tires, doors, engine blocks, so you could traverse some areas without disappearing somewhere you might not get fished out of. Dang it! They cleaned it up.

    junkone.jpg

The place is now owned by a chain and they sanitized the place. All the orphaned bits, chunks, odds and sods are gone. What was once a wonderfull adventure is now very boring. And I couldn't find a thing worth taking home. Well, there was this '59 Flatbed, but I've got too many projects already to take on this beautiful beast. Sadly it will soon see the crusher, as these new yards are all about turn-over.

  8. Moving back to the topic of aging shoes... several months of abuse later, natural soles are no longer natural.

    DSC_0733-1-1-1.jpg

What's the leather/color on these? It's really something. If I could ever get the scratch together for a pair, I think this would be the finish.

  9. I got a nice package in the mail. First off some very nice bits. Harris tweed cap, super awesome patch, and bank bag (dang things empty, sheesh!)

    SS1.jpg

    But then there was this...

    doll2.jpg

What the hell is this? I hope it didn't cost much as it's going in the bottom of a heavy trunk with a big brass railroad padlock. The thing freaks me out.

I mean, did the sender have any idea at all about my personality, or what I'm like? I mean really just phoning it in here.

  10. I was talking to a fellow that owns a shop here in Seattle. It's mainly an atique mall, but he used to do Atlas Clothing dealing alot of vintage clothing, and denim (ala Hellers Cafe). One thing that obviously caught my eye, was this monstrosity. Estimated to be from sometime in the fifties. Selvedge denim, felt letters, and super fat yellow chainstitch. I didn't measure them, but they're about seven or eight feet long. They were NFS for a long time, but since his business has changed focus, they are now for sale. Posted price is $3000, but he was warm to offers. bigLee2.jpgbigLee.jpg

The streak on the side of the leg might have been paint. The spots are camera lens flare. They're in particularly good condition.

  11. Robbie, one word, Bridgestone Blizzaks (okay two words). I'm on a one man crusade with these things, and they don't pay me a dime. Seriously though, they are like snow magic. They even grip on black ice.

I'm for deciding winners and pictures however the movers and shakers here think is best. Rnr switch and almostnice should be allowed to vote for themselves (they should at least get a few points...)

I think dkatz counting the points is like a rich man who piles 100$ bills on the bed and just wallows in it, chanting mine, mine, all mine!.

  12. Here's a little quick and dirty of the wedding locale. Most pictures are on other peoples cameras right now, but I'll slip these in before this next overtime week.

    Boehmssmall.jpg

Why yes, we did get married at a chocolate factory. Of course if we have a son, he gets to be named Augustus Gloop.

    Floriansmall.jpg

Always a good guy to have around.

    chapelsmall.jpg

The actual ceremony was out back in a reproduction of a 12th century chapel in the Swiss Alps dedicated to fallen climbers.

    cakesmall.jpg

The mrs may watch alot of Cake Boss, but we kept things itty-bitty with this, and we almost went without a cake at all. This was two days later. We're not real sugar fiends.

  13. any of you guys have thoughts on LL Bean Katahdin boots?

I've really enjoyed mine. Stiff and sturdy, but comfortable. I just walked up, down and around the entire city of Portland, and the dogs didn't bark once. It's also the first footwear in a long time that has elicited spontaneous comment. It's a pull up leather, so no even color tones, and lots of scuffing. The brown cork and rubber soles are wearing fairly quickly, but these are an older version, so I don't know how the vibram holds up.

  14. Awesome Zissou, although I thought things were leading up to some sort of powder-keg finale (which is sort of what we got here). It makes me sad for the Wawona schooner that we had until recently. It was the last of Seattles wooden fishing fleet (cod was big at one time). The Wooden Boat center had been desperately trying to save it for years, but pressure from the city, and Paul Allen (one of the biggest Aholes around and certainly the biggest in Seattle) who wanted to reshape South Lake Union into a futuristic, bio-tech, Allenopolis hated this "old eyesore" and pushed it to its final repose as wood chips and toothpicks.

Adh, looking good all around (kit, surroundings, and definitely the company).

I think Robbie is trying to be a contender!

Sorry for the sparse updates, but between working overtime at the shop, renovating the condo, trying to get married, and buy a house, the awesomeness has ebbed a little lately. The big day is arriving though, and we'll be honeymooning in Portland this weekend. If anyone will be around, a meetup would be sharp. Too bad Roy6 was a few weeks premature.

  15. The color on those Chippewas was what I was hoping to find when I went ahead and got the LL Beans, which are a little dark for my taste. The toe looks a little odd on the J Crew, but that might be because the photo is from a very large size, and maybe they didn't scale up the toe cap. From the overhead view, it looks like the same last as the Beans.

  16. (they had the most beautiful wrought iron railed balcony around the second floor, but it looks like it disappeared to make more room for books :(

Around here they throw the books in the dump and replace them with a computer so transients have a place to look at porn.

I always feel compelled to stop by the old cemeteries. I truly miss the history of New England.

When I was a kid we got to do the New England thing every couple of years. The old graveyards were always my favorite. I really dug the Mystic seaport as well.

  17. Came across some old photos of great gran and pappy Josephine and Jebediah Hill The first couple is from when they went West to stake a claim in the gold fields of Californy. From the third picture, I guess they did all right. Funny, those waist overalls on Jeb sure look familiar.
