  1. are you travelling or staying in HK for the most part during outerwear season? if you can wait till CNY (end of jan) you'll find some deals, it really doesn't get too cold out here..........

Living in HK now bro. I'll be making a couple of trips to Taiwan and Korea, so would be nice to have something decent.

I know in HK i could get by with a sweater and a light coat though..

  2. Never actually got to party at LKF, friends and I usually only go out in TST. I need better connections though my buddy is a homebody and stays in with his girl half the time.

let me know some places to go in TST bro..

Kinda sick of the kids running around LKF, wouldnt mind seeing what's in Kowloon, only place I really know is Knutsford..

  3. if you wanna live close to where you work id suggest the cheung sha wan/lai king area ... very big and relatively new property developments at "reasonable" prices

the sheung wan / soho area of course is great when it comes to restaurants, bars, galleries, etc. but if you work in kwai hing it would take quite long to get to work

i lived in yuen long before and worked in tsuen wan and i also found it quite convenient! low rent, cheap food and very quiet and green in some areas & if you live close to the MTR station it only takes you 30mins to TST

what i cannot recommend for a not chinese person is to move to these villages in the NT, made some pretty bad experiences there myself. as a "gweilo" u better live in the urban areas

I'm not gweilo :) Australian Asian. I can speak Cantonese pretty accurately in everyday conversation.

So given I will be working in Kwai Hing, and I will most likely be heading in Central/TST/MK/WanChai most weekends for shopping or drinking, should I still look for a place on Kowloon side or HK Island? I know Kwai Hing is a bit out of the way but I still want to pick a location that gives me a happy medium. I don't mind a morning commute of up to 30 mins.

So what kind of place would I be aiming for for around 6000hkd? Would it be quite run down and old?

I posted an ad on EasyRoomMate.hk and have received quite a bit of interest already but can't do anything until im actually in HK and spend time looking at flats.

  4. Well after like 2 years on and off looking, I managed to get myself a job in HK. Will be moving there around the end of August.

Looks like a few other SFers are moving there too. Lets meet up sometime for a drink!

My job is in Kwai Hing and initially i'll be staying in Tuen Mun, but looking to find my own apartment after a couple of months. Recommendations on which locations to look in?

  5. lol realised I've already asked before.. but just want to see if there's any newish/cool shops opened up recently?

haji lane was pretty nice to pop in and out of boutique stores..

my ex is planning to take me to some treetop gardens cafe..

  6. Had an amazing time!

Just a little recap of the trip incase you guys were interested.

    Hotel: Ovolo, 286 Queens road.

Perfect location for nightlife and dining, great staff, small small rooms but extremely well designed. Apple TV. Free minibar, breakfast, wifi and completely free alcohol and nibbles in the downstairs lounge from 6pm - 8pm each night.

    Eateries:

    Fringe club -

Had high expectations but sadly was disappointed. Website needed to be updated regarding lunch menu, happy hours etc. We were also forced to sit outside at 2pm on a tuesday when there wasn't a single customer inside?

    Yardbird -

Amazing dining experience. Ended up going a second time to conquer the whole menu. Loud, fun and lots of love. The bar staff were great and recommended things to do/places to go.

Highly recommend the chicken oysters, liver pate', KFC.

    Blue Butcher -

Seriously cool venue with a casual bar downstairs and upper echelon casual dining upstairs. Our waiter however struggled with the english language, making the overall experience a little harder to get the most out of. Had the Bone marrow, veal cheeks and sous-vide chicken. All were plated up fantastically and had flavour for days. Having a pink salt drying room in the middle of the restaurant floor was pretty cool too!

    Barista Jam -

    Specialty coffee in Sheung Wan.

Dual La Marzocco setup, several single origins on offer and a team with a real love for coffee.

    Dim Sum Square -

Not afraid to admit it, I am no dim sum pro.

This place was recommended by the staff at Barista Jam so we thought we would check it out.

Extremely cheap and very tasty. Had 5 dishes, a coke and a water for I think... $11 USD.

    Lily and Bloom -

Tastefully designed cocktail bar in LKF above the hustle and bustle.

Quite expensive, get in early to secure a seat.

    Clubs:

    Volar -

The place to be! Excellent design. Models everywhere. One trance room, one top 40 room. Beware of the tourist entry fee though.

    Magnum -

More of a lounge hangout than a club, a lot of people drinking illuminating Dom Perignon in booths etc.

    Beijing club -

Went on a monday night so couldn't really judge.

    Bissous -

Located under Lily and Bloom in LKF.

Felt a little young and underdressed but top notch design and amazingly fast bartenders.

    Shopping:

My primary reason for going to HK was to dine and get lost in the nightlife.

There was some damn good stores in a little stretch of LKF though.

Fred Perry, APC, FIL, Soph, Junya

Also stumbled upon ann D, CDG, MMM and Neighbourhood on the outer of I think it was called Lookout shopping center?

Again, I wasn't there to shop so I wasn't looking too closely but amazing shop layouts and very helpful staff from what I could gather.

All in all an amazing city which I hope to return to.

    Thanks, good tips..

Who is going back to HK for Xmas/NYE this year?

  7. bringing this back from the dead.. just bought my first pair of common project boots.

i want to find a good cobbler to speak to, maybe put on some kind of sole protection before I start wearing them in this perth winter..

any good recommendations? also planning to buy a good brush and some shoe trees..

as for shops in perth these days, I'd give my thumbs up to brave new world on william st in northbridge..

  8. 33xykaq.jpg

    from the tres bien sale.
