  1. My 710xx are my best fitting pair of jeans, they're the closest to my ideal cut of all the jeans I own. The weight and character of the denim is perfect, and they fade beautifully. I love the subtlety of the black arcs. There's plenty of things I like about my other jeans, but like @artisandenim said, the 710's have the most perfect or near-perfect attributes.

  2. And sorry, calling their 21 oz denim "garbage" is completely ridiculous and totally discredits your opinion in my mind. Just because you don't like something, it doesn't mean it's garbage. The 21 oz denim is probably the most durable denim made today. You may not like the way it looks or fades, but it's the complete opposite of "garbage". I also find it ironic that the two jeans you use for examples of IH fucking up sizing are both made with the 18 oz denim, which is the denim the "dry sanforization" process was developed for, for the EXACT REASON that the sizing has been difficult to control with that denim, as Seul pointed out.

  3.

The hardest, most unforgiving Iron Heart denim I have owned was the 23oz (not the raw 21/23oz). That denim was totally badass, and I completely regret selling it, but lesson learned.

You also have to consider the weave when you're looking at the various denims, compared to the 23oz the 25 is a positively loose weave which has a definite effect on texture and comfort.

Having worn the 23oz denim for over a year now, I suspected this might be the case, but I don't yet have any 25oz to compare it to. Nice to see that my suspicions were correct, it is positively beastly but beautiful at the same time.

  4. I'm with you on that 23oz denim. It's beautiful, and it fades wonderfully. It's not for the faint of heart for sure, but I love it.

  5. While in LA recently, I took my Iron Heart SExIHxLSxA13's to Self Edge to have this area above one of my hems repaired:

While I was there, I figured I might as well get the crotch and button holes reinforced. The results:

These should be good to go for quite a long time now I think.

  6. He's talking about sizing inconsistencies even before the denim is soaked, not differences in how they shrink after a soak. I agree it seems like the inconsistencies would be due to cutting and sewing errors, but obviously that isn't the case. I'd be interested to know how the denim itself is causing the issues.

  7. I'm sorry if this has been asked...but what are the distinguishing factors between the Zero 17oz denim and the 19oz denim besides the weight? I have a pair of the 710xx 19oz and would like to try the 17oz. Is it neppy and slubby like PBJ or is it very similar to the 19oz? I've also read that even though it's 17oz, it feels and fits rather light which is good for hotter climates. Is that true as well?

I have the 710xx and the Black Shadows which use the black 17oz denim. The 17oz feels noticeably lighter and seems to breath more for sure. It also feels rougher. It's not much slubbier than the 19oz, though, and it isn't as slubby as PBJ's standard 14oz. But overall I would say it's closer to the PBJ denim than it is the 19oz on the 710xx.

  8. So today a coworker that I've worked with for almost a year, and who was in NYC over the weekend, said "hey, have you ever heard of Flat Head?" This was so unexpected that I didn't even know what he was talking about for a second. "Flat Head?" I responded. "Yeah, check it out" he says and hands me his wallet. "Wait, this is a Flat Head wallet? What the hell do you know about Flat Head? Where did you get this?" I ask. "I picked it up at Self Edge in New York." "What?! How do you know about Self Edge?" "Oh I've been to Self Edge in LA and San Francisco too. I just bought a pair of Sugar Canes from them."

Mind Blown. We can't wear jeans at work so I had no idea. Almost a year working with this guy and he apparently has been wearing an Iron Heart belt the whole goddamn time, and has Sugar Canes and Studio D'Artisans, and is familiar with Flat Head, Iron Heart, Real Japan Blues, and god knows what else. This is literally the only person I know who has any idea about Japanese denim. Crazy.

  9. ^ The 23oz doesn't breathe well at all, that is correct, but the 21/23 oz is a different denim. Unfortunately I have no experience with the 21/23 oz, I just wanted to clarify gratefulmelon's post.

  10. By the way, I try not to soak denim. Much better in my opinion is to put them on the washing line, spray them with water and let them drip dry. This way you shrink them but no colour is lost at all and they still look raw afterwards.

You're not getting close to the full amount of shrink doing this. They will eventually shrink fully over many repetitions of this method, but your combs and creases and fades will be all over the place and won't look right. There's a lot of experts on this forum, and a lot of people who have learned from experience. I'd suggest doing a bit more research.

  11. I wore Samurai in HWDC1, I'm not sure that the Busters can't compete more that they are very different denims. No doubt many Samurai denims have a much richer texture, but that only counts if that's what you like personally.

Variety is the spice of life.

I also wore Samurai's the first time around, and while Samurai's texture is wonderful and contributes greatly to their fantastic fading characteristics, every time I put on my Busters I'm reminded just how great IH's "boring" 21 oz denim is. It's just a totally different experience-- so much richer and more luxurious in look and feel, it's almost sensual. I love Samurai's denim, IH's denim, and PBJ's denim equally. Variety is indeed the spice of life.

  12. Everything you said on the first parts was all I needed.

But I don't get the second part, "Occasionally people with this attitude shows up here"? That I don't get, Is this a forum where you can express your feelings or thoughts. If you don't like what I post, just say so, I'll be happy to remove it. How can I be one of those people if I spend hundreds to even thousands on pants?

I spend time on this forum to get knowledge from other members here. I never said I never cared about the details of the jeans, the rivets, back pockets, and the type of denim used.

No one is attacking you for voicing your opinion. Cold Summer explained the obvious reasons why someone would ask the question that you found irrelevant, and I was pointing out that this is a forum created specifically for the type of denim geek who would ask such a question, so you should fully expect to see that question asked often. And I'm certainly not questioning your denim-geek cred either. I know you post here plenty, I don't doubt that you're just nerdy as the rest of us. ;)

  13.

If you don't care about that sort of thing, then fine, but why bother with expensive hobbyist-oriented brands like Samurai in the first place?

And why spend time on a forum which specifically caters to people who DO care about these things?
