  1. My 1901's are fine without a belt. I guess I sized down on them as my 33's and 47's are both a 32 and the 01's are a 30. However the 33's and 47's both have room to breath in the waist so I'd say I'm really a 31... at least would be if they all came in a 31. Should add that I never wore a belt with the 33's either and as Paul said they just sit a little lower on your waist

I've got a question for those with LVC 501 models that are pre-belt loop models.

how do you get along with out a belt? is it a pain? I'm not really trying to wear suspenders all the time so I'm wondering if the lack of belt-loops is a noticeable inconvenience. I know the clerk has been wearin the 1901s and paul T as well, and a few have the 1915s and 1917s...so whats your opinion?

  2. They're from the spring 09 i think. I bought them from Cultizm last May. It is krabo denim and is changing into a lovely colour. I guess they've had 4 / 5 months of constant wear since i got them. I think they'll be great given another 6 months of hard wear probably over the summer next year.

    Clerk.

Nice comparison photos - from what year were those made, do you know?

I think that's kurabo denim - really great streaks. How long did it take to change hue?

...On an unrelated note, anyone heard from Busted Seam recently?

He hasnt posted on here for a while.

  3. Morning,

Thought you guts may be interested to see how my 1901's have been getting on over the summer. They have had the bulk of my wear since around May - I guess about two thirds of the time and the rest I was wearing my 47's. I've now put the 01's away until spring and the 47's at getting a bit too frayed.

Anyway here they are after an initial soak:

And this is how they looked yesterday. Same camera, same room, same lights. They seem to have changed hue an awful lot. You can really see the detail of the whiskers etc.

  4. LFC4ever, that's quite a compliment - many thanks.

I'm now getting quite a lot of messages about chainstitching people's jeans, which is great. I'm really getting in to it and I'm also getting a real kick that people are happy with the work.

So, thought I should say how I'm going to work the service. The basic cost for hemming is going to be £18 sterling plus postage. The best thing to do is to send me a message via [email protected] and I can then get back to you with where to send the jeans plus payment details and so on. I will soon have an actual web site for this up and running. More on that soon(ish)

I should also say thanks for all the great comments and plus rep I've been getting. It seems I've developed some rep power myself. Not really sure how to use it mind...

  5. RedX: The machine I have is a 43200G which is designed solely for hemming. In order to do inseams with a chainstitch you need a flat bed machine. Check out the chainstitching machines and where to get them thread.

Fre$co: I should have some pure cotton coming soon. I'll keep you posted.

  6. Gentlemen, thank you all for your kind words. Don't worry I'm not really losing heart. I love the machine. I'd of bought it even if it was just for my own amusement and use. The fact that you all get to benefit too is just cool with me... spread the love and all that.

So, whot we got? Paul T. Almostnice. Pomata. Paulo. Skeese. Patchmb. Maynard Friedman. Aso2004. RedX. Slowdownarthur. LFV4ever.

That's eleven. Assuming RedX wants hemming as well as tapering. (By the way RedX I don't actually have a 5 thread industrial overlocker so I'm not best placed to narrow your jeans. But, it is the sort of thing lots of good tailors can do for you).

So if RedX is in, then what the hell, I'll do eleven. Free hemming offer is now closed.

I know some of you have mailed me already about where to send the jeans. I've spent all day today moving house lugging boxes around so right now I'm off to the pub, Will email you all tomorrow. Sleep tight kids.

  7. Ok, so that's Paul T, almostnice, pomata, Paulo, Skeese, patchmb and Maynard Friedmann... that's 7...

Only seven people out there who want their jeans chainstitched for free? Looking for three more people who want to take advantage of this or I'm gonna start thinking that a Union Special was a seriously bad investment.

I'll PM the other seven of you later and thanks so much for the support.

  8. So,

Spurred on by the fact that there's now a little competition in providing the service I've decided to embark on a little PR...

The first 10 members who sign up here who want a pair of jeans hemmed can have it done for free. I'll be using poly core cotton mix thread and will attempt to match the colour as closely as possible. (I am in conversation with various manufacturers about sourcing 100% cotton but this is still a few weeks off)...

All I ask is that you pay the cost of return, registered post, back to wherever in the UK or Europe so that your jeans are safe.

Paul T has already given me his SDA 103 XX's to hem so he's no 1.

I look forward to hearing from the other 9 of you. Sign up on the thread and then I'll PM you as to where to send em.

    Cheers

    Cary aka The Clerk

  9. Anyway,

I have now managed to track down the right thread in the right thickness and a able to say that I can start to offer to hem people beloved denim. The thread that I have is a poly cotton mix witch is the same thread as used by LVC, the mighty Ande Whall and Flatheads' F (Frontier) series among many others.

Here's how the hems look at the moment with some close ups of the stitch:

  10. Ok,

So back in June I said I was gonna be starting to be able to do some chainstitching for all you members here in London / England / Europe who need the service but since then there have been one or two problems. Sourcing thread, replacing springs on the machine getting hold of the genius that supplied me with it to help me unjam it when it got nasty with me.

Anyway, just to wet your appetites again here she is my Union Special 43200G

  11. Personally I only ever hand wash and then hang dry. Give them an initial soak and then wear em till they've got a good greasy sheen on em before the first propper wash.

Hold on to the indigo for as long as possible, let the shrinkage happen slowly (fades don't seem to move too much) and I can't see many people at the turn of the century / 20s / 30s / 40s tumble drying their jeans. Not that I see my jeans as re-enactment costume.
