  1. Look what i've found in the yard today..

A hungy dog must have a lot to do with this..there goes my usd600 boots

contact Morgan @ viberg and see what he can do for you, they can rebuil your boots that is the beauty of $600 boots.  Hang on to the reciept and if the dog's owner is cool they will take care of it for you.

  2. Hey guys, if I wear a 9.5 in the Alden trubalance last, 43 common project achilles, 10.5 chucks, what size should I go for on the 2030 last (service boot)?

I wore an 8D alden trubalance, I bought 7.5 Uk in the 2030 and the length is good but they are a little tight. may stretch out a little over time?

  3. Selling some boots and denim I don't wear anymore. Adding boots first will take pictures of the denim later and add them soon. PAYPAL on all sales. Additional photos can be provided as requested.

    First up

Redwings x Jcrew that i had resoled with a vibram christy crepe sole. soles are almost brand new and the boots have very little wear, they are a size 8 D and fit like more like an 8 D than typical redwings, they are a little narrower than the beckman/gentleman travelers

Next up are some Gentleman Travelers that I bought in 2008 they are the Cherry Chromexcel before redwing went away from Horween. Size 8 D fits like an 8 1/2 D these have more wear than the last pair but are in great shape and look so great. they have the usual scuffs and such but have been very well cared for and loved. Just too many boots in my rotation to keep.

    Whites Semi-dress
sz 8 D fits like an 8 1/2 D Swing Last, Block heal, Cognac/Sienna  Water Buffalo leather midsole, leather outsole, brown edge, antique eylets.
These are in great shape and have started to take on a great patina but again just too many boots and not enough time to wear them. I only have one picture right now but will take additional photos later and can also provide any view requested

  4. ...sad that you will be going out for an extended weekend trip the same weekend as a self edge collab drops. ... keep putting off a vacation because you keep using your savings on boots, denim, chambray, loopwheel etc.

  5. That is a very easy resole, all they do is peel off the vibram and glue on another. the midsole they glue it too is the only part that would ever need to be replace as it is actually sewn to the upper (and only if you should ever wear that far down). The local shoe repair guys charged me $60 which is probably less than the shipping back and forth to spokane.

  6. any one here using trees and if so what?  i lot of the people that have spent big money on there boots dont seem to use them, is there any point?

I use shoe trees because it's hot here in Texas and I need to get the moisturea absorbed, it's also why I rotate my boots. I want my boots to last a long time and I care for them accordingly. In the winter time on the other had, I may wear boots several days in a row and neglect the shoe trees. It's up to you and your circumstances. I also use wool socks exclusively, thin in the summer and thick in the winter and this has helped tremendously, keeping both my feet and boots dry.

  7. @JMFR get yourself a tub of obenauf's heavy duty, I always apply this after i have cleaned my boots, let it dry overnight or use a blowdryer on low or medium to help it absorb into the leather, once dry you can apply any shoe polis you like and they will shine right up for that classy look.

@slab thanks! the Vibergs look so good in real life and the smell of the leahter really needs to be a cologne. the white's look darker due partly to the lighting but more due to raw denim/industrial oils from work

  8. Thanks so much Kyle for the detailed reply, after some consideration I think I'm going to place a phone order to one of the SE shops for the 3009! I was looking into heavier denim for my next purchase but I think the 3009 is what I've been looking for in all likelihood. The 14 oz weight should be a good year round weight for the weather here in Texas.

Hey i'm in San Marcos and the heavyweight is fall winter only for me. I have some 21 oz overdyed ironhearts and it's not happening anytime but late fall and winter. I am planning on switching from my midweight eternal's back to my lightweight sugar canes soon.
  9. These came yestureday. When do people think i should give my boots their first Obenaufs heavy duty leather protector?

Now, it not only preseverves but protects. gives them some stain and water repelency. a couple coats and they will be nearly water proof. I use it on all my footwear. then on an as needed basis. I usually apply more after a good cleaning.

here is a close up of my bounty hunters, the upper still has the original finish the vamp is basically all polish, there is no finish left on them at all. as you can see I gave up fixing them a long time ago so the cuts and scrapes remain and just add character and patina.

and here is a crappy pic of them after they have been cleaned and before polish

  11. Here is the cut. Start to finish about 5 1/2". So exaggerated a bit. Will try the barges and see what happens.

Hope the link works. Using iPhone.

The barge cement should work, just take your time, get a little on the needle and apply it to the inside of the cut, give it a minute to get a little tacky almost dry then close it up. if any gets on the boot where you don't want it, don't worry once it's dry it will peel right off. make sure you peel it before you sand otherwise it can get a little messy. lastly lightly sand but don't be afraid of the sand paper. my work boots have none of the original finish left on them but still shine right up. just use a good creme polish that matches your boot color.
  12. Bounty Hunter is the Smoke Jumper with the Semi-dress last, right? Man, I'm having the damnedest time trying to decide on my build. I know I can't join the contest at this point, but this thread is a great resource.

yup, all you have to do now is pick out your options. enjoy!

  13. I'll add mine

    8.5 D US measured on a Brannock

    26.5 measured by line tracing

    8D barrie, modified, true balance

    9D chucks and vans

8D whites semi-dress and bounty hunter

    7.5D UK Viberg 2030 last

8 in most Redwings, but the pecos are narrower and much tighter then the beckmans

    8.5 most nikes and addidas

    42 birkenstock

8D in the HTC Santa Rosa engineer boots with spenco insole

  14. I had a run in with a barbed wire fence in my 1000 mile boots. Will post picks later...but basically there is a 7" gash along the arch. Any suggestions? The gash did not go all the way through otherwise I would be posting from the hospital.

They may be dead to me now!

i get gashes in my boots all the time (i work in a metal shop). barge makes an all purpose cement that I use on my leather projects all the time, apply it carefully with a needle inside the gash let it set for a minute then apply pressure to close it up. it may still be a little visible, once dry you can lightly sand with a very fine sand paper 600 grit or above and then clean and polish. should be almost invisible. thats a pretty big gash, you may just have to press on it with both hands for a little while until it looks like the cement set.

  15. I understand some of this has to do with just wearing and breaking in. But should I be using polish to darken? What specific products should I be investing in? Obenauf's has been mentioned specifically a few times in the thread.  But which product? Just the Obenauf's Oil? Obenauf's Heavy LP? I'd appreciate if those that know could break off a newb with some knowledge.

also two different kinds of leather, in time and with care yours will look more like bradi's
