  1. When I first got into comics/graphic novels I thought Frank Miller was awesome, now I just find is writing really aggravating. He writes the same characters (brooding, dark souled men in gritty settings) over and over again.

Recent stuff I've been really into, none of it it super hero stuff, but whatever:

Incognegro (one off book about lynchings in the US south during the 1920s)

Berlin: City of Stone (awesome historical-based series set in Weimar era Berlin)

    DMZ

  2. Quick/stupid question:

What is the hidden arc in the black 710s? Is it just thick stitching in the back pocket lining or is wiring or something else? (I assume thick stitching, but I want to double check)

  3. I feel like I am going to get neg repped for this, but:

i used to sit like that all the time when i was a kid

    i still do actually

    maybe i am secretly adopted

    aaaaanyway

    cheap monday

    vans

Cheap monday jeans+vans+all over print t-shirt. This just looks like a teenage emo/indie rock kid who just discovered streetwear c. 2006 on the internet. I am sure I am missing something but I don't get what isn't lame about this.

  4. haha. I'd just go get my masters in art history or something. I just felt like its over flooded. I know 6 people going to school for 'photography' and they're all the

"black and white= ~`*artsy*`~" kind of wastes.

If you want to get a degree in an over crowded field with close to zero chance of getting a job then a graduate degree in art history is probably a good way to one up any BFA.

  5. Chinatown for everything food related.

Some museums are donation based. If you don't feel like a douchebag only paying $0.50 then you're set.

I am okay feeling like a douche bag if I can get into a museum for a pocket full of change.

Any specific recomendations for places to look for/avoid in China town?

  6. I didn't realize that there were Bad Brains clothes in addition to the Vans... damnit. Some of the shirts on there and that jacket are awesome, but there's no way I am paying Supreme prices for those.

  7. I couldn't find a thread like this using tags or the search function but feel free to call me an idiot and post a link if I missed them (search using google did turn up some stuff, but the links were all broken).

I know SUFU doesn't really do "cheap" but I am in NYC (Manhattan) for a little over a month on a student's budget so I need some cheap things to do/eat.

What are some good cheap/free things to do? What galleries/museums other than MoMA have free/PWYC days? (and when are they?) What galleries/museums are free/cheap and fly under the tourist radar? What sort of strange, rarely mentioned landmarks should I check out? I will have a transit pass and I am willing to venture outside of Manhattan if stuff is interesting and free.

By the same token: Where can I eat dinner for under $10? Even cheaper lunches?

I am looking mainly for stuff that people who live in the city do, since tourist stuff tends to always be a rip off and is often boring as hell. Give me suggestions, superfuture!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  8. 83 chicken wings is my current record when it comes to wings. I think I could do more if I ate honey garlic instead of hot wings so I didn't have to keep pumping myself full of pop to keep my mouth from hurting.

I once ate a large works pizza and a 9" garlic fingers and drank 2 litres of kool-aid in the same sitting. The Kool-aid did more damage than the pizza.

  9. I worked as a dietary aid in an old folks home for a summer. It sucked.

    12 hours shifts (7am to 7pm)

I was on casual so I sometimes would go a whole week without working and other weeks I'd get calls asking me to come in at 6:30 almost every morning. Since I was new there I got the shitty shift which involved two people doing the work most other shifts had three people to do. Everything was timed down to five minutes so if you fell behind at all everything got thrown out of order. I worked on the only three floors that didn't have air conditioning so the heat was brutal. Most of the old folks were nice but some were ass holes. I was one of only two guys who worked on the floors in the entire complex so old ladies hit on me constantly. It was just a bad job all around. The only good thing was that it was unionized so I got paid well.

  10. hot tub group release (berkeley)

Let's keep this simple. I have a hot tub on Euclid. I am having a group release party on December 28th. Everybody is welcome (last time was all men which was fun but I would really like to get some women this time). Here's how it works:

Five people get into my 400 gallon redwood hot tub. The temperature is a challenging 125 degrees. After a few minutes, everybody "evacuates." (voids their bowels in the tub). We see what "floats to the surface." This "letting go" stage is followed by a "coming together" stage in which each person helps the person to their left reach satisfaction (handsex). Simple and wonderful.

    Some ground rules:

1)No footwear of any kind in the tub! Leave your flip flops on the deck!

14)No food in the hot tub or on the deck. If you must eat, finish your food in your car.

You wouldn't want to get the hot tub dirty or anything.

  11. I am thinking of buying some denim. I had a thing for straight leg polo but I want to try some selvedge.

I'm a size 32x32. What size should i buy in

    Flatheads=?

    Nudies=?

    Cheap Monday=?

    APC=?

I like straight leg but could do skinny I just don't like to much hug around the crotch. what jeans would you suggest?

Contact Kiya at Selfedge for sizing infor on Flatheads/Nudies since they carry both. He's super helpful (just make sure you order for him if you ask him for sizing help). My suggestion is to measure the post-stretch waist on your jeans and use that for comparison, not tagged size.

  12. N00b battle!

Wow, kiya probably payed far out the ass for that outfit, but one could probably build about the same thing for around $180 total.
    I'm not? lol.

I dont understand. Fam0us gives me negative rep for what i'm wearing, yet hes wearing some ill fitting generic button down, some baggy pants, and cheap looking shoes.

    Lame.

  13. the point of the show is awesome, but i can't watch without thinking how different it is from the books. :(

but the chicks are hot and the clothes are awesome.

You actually sat down and read the Gossip Girl books? Seriously? You didn't buy them did you?

(I like the show in a hilariously trashy way, but I can't see putting in the effort to actually buy and read Gossip Girl novels)

  14. Ive been meaning to learn how to measure my thighs.

...so..how do i measure my thighs? I think that's probably my best bet in how to judge it more correctly since I read that most people agree the thigh areas are the tightest. I am pretty firm in making my decision getting a size 29 because, although I am not as tall as sid(I'm 5'4, hes 5'10), we weigh pretty much the same.

But it's good to take more measurements. I remember seeing somewhere there was a diagram on how to measure the thighs..

Kiya told me that self edge measure one inch down from the crotch in the front, straight out to the edge. Blue in Green measures straight out at the crotch, I believe.
