  1. Weird, mine haven't been losing any indigo at all. I did machine wash/dry on hot though (no soap).

I sized down one and I really dig the fit. I hope they don't stretch an awful lot though (belt should help).

On another note, my pair and I are going to be in Hawaii for the next week for our honeymoon (with the wife, not the jeans). Hopefully some more fit pics will ensue now that the fabric has settled down a bit.

  2. I wonder if anyone would get in legal trouble for doing that. I could ask Gordon and then I could post it on the blog.

I momentarily forgot that this is such a legal slippery-slope. It probably shouldn't be something so easy to snag, but I don't have any other ideas except to make people PM someone to get the arc pattern.

    pwing, SICK arcs!

  3. I had a few PMs about how I did my arcs so I figured I'd make a post. It looks like batorizer pretty much beat me to it, though.

I cut the template out from the paper, and then stapled it to the pocket. Yes, staples. I used four per pocket, and that seemed to do the trick. I think I used three pieces of thread per arc, any longer than that kept causing knots and such as I was trying to pull the thread through. I did the whole deal with the pockets left on the pants, it wasn't that bad except for trying to transition to the very edges of the pockets and near the intersection of the two halves of the arcs. After I got the whole arc done, I trimmed off as much paper as I could with a scissors, and then I used a needle to pick out the remaining paper. I have a couple of loose stitches due to pulling the template out after stitching, but they will either be replaced at some point or just be left to tear and make the arcs look more worn in. I think it took me about 5 hours total, probably 3.5 hours for the first arc and 1.5 hours for the second one.

EDIT: Oh yeah, about knowing where the needle comes up, it takes a lot of tentative poking until the needle comes up where you want it. You really shouldn't hurt the denim doing this either.

Any more questions, let me know!

  4. i'm really on the fence about stitching the arcs or painting them. i'm heading to the fabric store in a while and there's a craft store next door. so, i really don't know. it may come down to what kind of 100% cotton thread the fabric store has. either way i'll post some pics tonight or tomorrow.

They will probably have like a hundred colors, no lie.

  5. #54 has touched down here... Red tab will be going in soon (as soon as I can find some matching thread)

Then paint, then soak. Think I'm going black arcs

    Come to the dark side!

I finished sewing up the other arc last night. Tab will probably happen this weekend.

  6. I finished up one of the pockets tonight. I tried taking pics and I can't for the life of me get one where you can see the stitching well. I ended up using a double thickness of thread, I kept breaking it when I would just do a single thickness (100% cotton). They are far from perfect, but by the time the denim fades enough to make them out, they should be trashed enough that they don't look out of place. A tip for anyone else who's going to do this...make sure you keep your stitches pulled tight, or you will have some loose loops when you pull the paper. I have a few.

  7. I've handled some Filson belts locally and they do feel to be very well made and sturdy. The only thing I don't like is that they do not offer any that aren't very dark brown.

  8. I'm thinking about black myself, mostly because it's going to be difficult to find thread that matches whatever yellow they are using. You planning on documenting this process?

I'm planning on getting some thread tonight and getting started, I'll keep you posted how it goes.

  9. Well, these are going to look pretty lame following up those 710s, but I had the camera out last night to take pics of the new FC contest jeans so I snapped a couple pics of my sammies.

I've had them since March, and they've been in rotation with another pair (SC47). Size 36 lot 10 S5000VX. They've had a couple of hot water soaks to get the stink out.

I just pulled 'em out of the washer, they're still a bit damp. They definitely shrank. See below for pre-wash clown fit shots, I'll try to get some legit post-wash fit pics up tomorrow.

I think I decided on black thread arcs, so I think I'm going to grab some tomorrow after work and go to town. I just love how the Sammies with black arcs look.
