  1. post-Bourdain, I'm expecting it to feel more tourist trap than anything now.

That's what I heard as well, but save 1 or two sporadic english reviews on openrice saying otherwise.

    who cares?

tim ho wan is there to stuff you with good dim sum for cheap.. not for ambience, service quality etc.

but if you must succumb to your inner hypocritical elitist then you can easily find 10 other dim sum restaurants that serve similar quality food with with less gwai los by using openrice

    u won't get this though

  2. For those with the lady problems already accounted for, are there any good food blog sites run by local Hong Kong folk? Something more tangible versus what's shown on Travel And Living. Im interested on going to Tim Ho Wan, but they never say things like "get there at 9 otherwise you wont have a table anymore".

Also, any art shows, museums to check out?

its like a 3 hour wait for tim ho wan either way. they have a good system though (take a number and return at a certain time) so it's not like you have to stand there

  3. I'll start off. I've kind of come to the conclusion that there are certain styles id love to pull off but just can't (sup baconzilla). For some reason, i feel and look most comfortable in tee's or band tees's and button ups or sweatshirts.

So what I'm wondering is anyone know a way to step that up a lil bit? Maybe get a staple pair of good shoes/boots or a jacket? Im trying to avoid falling into the cosplay side of the spectrum of railroad/rockabilly guy or punk fanboy.

looking comfortable in something will do you much better than trying NOT to look like punkroadbillyboy cosplay

just buy what you like. some of it will be a mistake and some of it will be stuff you wear for years... it's all part of the ride.

  4. I dunno I was at the WM store and a lot of the stuff felt rather underwhelming. If it can be bought at discount then go for it but the prices just do not feel worth it for this collection.

the amount of times i've seen variations of this statement makes it almost meaningless

  5. Jesse Thorn: Styleforum is interesting because it was a place where there was legitimate discussion of what you might call "fashion-y" menswear, and a legitimate discussion of what you might call "classic" menswear. Neither of those is a perfect description but it encompasses both selvedge denim and neckties. And that is unique because when I started Interneting, there was Superfuture, which was so, so masturbatory. It was jeans and high-fashion sneakers and things like that.

lavinz looked more like sb dunks than john lobbs at the time. also wtf at "encompassing selvedge denim and neckties" then calling jeans masturbatory?
