  1. Apologies if this has been done before, I did a search and nothing came up...

I've only got 2 pairs of jeans I normally wear. 4 pairs of shoes. But I just realized I have 11 jackets/coats...that I can think of. I knew I liked them, but didn't know it was a developing addiction. And I wear most of them too:

Black pinstripe (officewear) 3 button blazer

Black velvet with grey pinstripe 2 button blazer

    Grey tweed 2 button blazer

Brown cotton military-styled 3 button blazer

    Black knee-length velvet-trimmed wool coat

    Grey mid-thigh-length wool peacoat

    Black double-breasted cotton blazer

    Olive military-styled casual cotton shirt-jacket

Brown pinstripe cotton blazer (don't wear anymore)

Black cotton military styled jacket (don't wear anymore)

Grey & white nylon snowboard jacket (haven't worn in ages)

So what's your addiction? What's the one thing you can't stop buying, no matter how many you've got?

  2. ^Yeah, Zara's good stuff, didn't quite have what I wanted though. We don't have Uniqlo here. I'll be keeping my eye out for nice stuff at Zara though.

what size did they go down to and what size are you in other H&M jackets/hoodies? im curious if it will be slim enough for me(5'11 165pounds)

also, do you think these will sell out cause i might not be able to make it to H&M for a while...

This is my first purchase from H&M because we just got our store, so I don't know what size I would normally wear. My guess is small, because that's what I wear for American Apparel. The smallest I saw was 36 for the style I got. The L.O.G.G. ones are S M L XL, etc.

I'm about the same height/build as you and it looks good on me, just wish it was slightly more fitted around the waist. If you have long arms you may want to go a size up if it's not too baggy, the sleeves are just the right length, or I could go a little longer to be extra comfortable...but I like pretty long sleeves. As it is they're right where they should be.

It will sell out, but they'll probably restock. I was there a few weeks ago and tried it on, couldn't purchase because their credit/debit wasn't working, then they sold out, but restocked last week. It's apparently a popular piece and it's still pretty early in the season, so even if they don't have any left in your size when you go, keep trying and you'll probably get one.

  3. I think the "Oliver Twist" thing is a really cool look if you pull it off right, it would be pretty cool to see someone walking down the street like that. Classy but comfortable, with all the textured materials.

I've got a grey tweed blazer that sort of works like that, kind of wish it was more brown though.

Slightly related, I saw a guy wearing a suit and overcoat with a poorboy hat yesterday, this reminded me of that. It looked pretty good except that everything was modern materials and fitted way too big on him.

  4. Hmm, this is good to know if I ever want to tailor anything. A couple coats I own could use a bit more fitting.

or are you just trying to take the curved line out which seems popular in the old military jackets?

Wouldn't that line be desirable? I always prefer a more fitted cut to a straight line.

  5. I've got something similar in brown, with more of a blazer-style collar.

I like the Hugo Boss one, but not so big on the color, I just prefer darker colors for jackets. I think the big lower pockets make it look a bit too busy as well, but not bad. I like the epaulets, they make a military jacket. Without them, it's barely military.

Alternatives to Zara... sometimes Urban Outfitters has military-styled jackets, or if you're in Canada, try Le Chateau. It's a pretty cheap (price & quality) brand, but the fit is usually nice and they sometimes have some nice styles. Or ocassionally Armani Exchange or Guess.

  6. That's the one... but did you remove some of the buttons? They've changed the epaulets this year as well, they now go through a loop instead of being simply attatched at the seam. They also got rid of the ridiculous loop at the back. Comes in dark grey and black, I got the grey.

They also have 3 other styles. A longer version in a brown/black sort of tweed/plaid-like pattern, a classic-styled "L.O.G.G"-label one in grey or black (very scratchy material), and another shorter one in navy/black, which I didn't really look at too much.

  7. Finally got my H&M coat on the weekend. It's warm enough for now, I'll be needing a sweater come late October though, and the quality of the stitching isn't the greatest... but for the price, it's definitely a great-looking coat, I've never seen a nicer one for under $400. It's also not quite as fitted as I'd like, I may get it tailored in the future. It's decent though, I'd recommend as something more than your basic surplus peacoat if you're on a limited budget.

  8. Yeah, pretty much the Pro-Tec style ones. They're as good as it gets for that kind of protection. If you do really hardcore stuff, you're going to want a full-face mountain-biking helmet...but I dunno if you'd be into that look.

It's a longboarding site (whatever, all those sports are interchangable), but they've got some decent-looking helmets: http://thelongboardstore.com. I'm thinking of picking up one of the matte grey ones so I don't bust my head boarding crazy hills...

  9. Not the greatest, but the second-best Sony Ericsson in Canada right now... black W810i. I've got a 4 gig card but I really need an 8 gig.

It's a cool phone with a decent camera and great music player, I just wish it was as slim & compact as the crazy japanese ones I see on the train all the time.

  10. I'll agree there's a lot of ugly shoes on here, but some really nice ones too. I may not be qualified or whatever, but I know what looks good to me. Those Keds were nice.

I've been iffy on the high-tops so far, but I think I will pick up a pair of Chucks (I already wear One Star skate shoes). I don't give a shit that everyone's wearing em. Maybe I'll get one of the more unique styles, or just stick with classic black & white. Or find those Keds instead.

  11. Wow, I thought this thread was a joke, but apparently not.

McD's drip coffee is fucking legit.

McD's coffee smells fucking wonderful, and tastes like the shittiest ass.

For awhile, Starbucks was my coffee of choice, but I find I'm getting rather sick of it. But really, almost all coffee shop chains are shit. I only drink Timmy's when I'm in the mood.

Try picking up chicks at your local independent coffee shop. Better music, hipper crowd, way better fucking coffee.

I doubt you're in Vancouver, but "JJ Bean" and "Bean Around the World" are cool local chains with good coffee.

However, of the major (non-local) chains, Starbucks has the hottest baristas.

Edit: The joke's on me, that guy can't be serious...lol. Well yeah, listen to my advice.

  12. http://www.hunkydory.jp/detail.php?commodity_id=17101&color_id=1

THAT is almost exactly what I'm looking for, but I want it in grey. And some of the details are different. The one I saw in store had no stupid-looking loop on the back, the fabric bit up on the collar buttons on both sides, and the epaulets are attatched differently. Is the one pictured last year's or something?

Damn I wish they had my size at my H&M. What do you guys think the possibility of a restock is? It's still September, I can't see how they'd go the rest of the season without restocking...

  13. Haha, I didn't know I was causing such controversy.

Badly cut jeans can make you look crap....and result in failure to pick up the mint bird at the pub.

They do make cheap jeans with better cuts than some, so that's what I wear. And while I'm not single, I still don't think most women (at least the ones I'd want to date) are going to care what brand of jeans I'm wearing.

Thanks Remy, that's what I've been saying all along, personal choice. I just started out saying how many pairs of jeans I own and why I choose to wear cheap ones.

  14. H&M stuff is okay but soo boring and disposable

i think im gonna try to avoid their stuff for something a little more exotic/high quality

I dunno, there's one H&M coat I'm after that's got some really nice details, hook clasp on the collar, epaulets, flap pockets, the whole nine yards, not just a plain peacoat, but I can see where you're coming from.

Jeepster, they seemed pretty warm to me, there was one made of really thick wool and the rest are decent too. I live in Canada so warmth is definitely a requirement. Though later in winter you'd definitely need a sweater underneath. I guess the best thing is just to go check them out.

  15. Oh, I actually have a legit post. For the people who wear skinny/tight pants, do you guys wear underwear, boxers, or boxer briefs? I have some super comfy cotton boxers, but they tend to bunch and create bumps along the thigh, even after they're smoothed out (Since the excess cotton has to go somewhere). So I've been going back to the scratchy thin blended boxers. What do you guys do?

Boxer briefs for sure, cuz I'm not man enough to wear tightie whities either. :D

  16. Trust me dude. I only have one pair of Nudies, but I would NEVER go back. Ever. I'm ordering some 3001s now, and all the work and wear and not washing is worth it. I don't even have my old jeans anymore, because they just don't compare.

I've had my Dry slim jims for 5 months now, and it's completely different from jeans from Quiksilver, Globe, or those surfer shit brands. But believe me, it's worth it. The look, the fit, the feel. I can't even imagine what it's like to have Onis or 45rpms.

Well, I'll take your word for it. If you're right and I try a pair, I might get hooked, so for now I'll avoid taking that chance.:D

Gimmegimme: Point taken, you're right about that, but I was also taking your earlier comment into consideration when I made my post. Personally I just don't need expensive jeans, that's all. Maybe they are better. Doesn't matter to me, I just don't want to spend that much when I'm satisfied with my cheap ones.

  17. The only well-fitting coats I've tried on for under $300 are H&M. They've got a few styles this year, but I wasn't paying attention to the length. I'm trying to grab a longer one, but I know there were at least some standard-length peacoats.

I also saw one in Guess the other day for $200 Canadian. Didn't try it on though, so I don't know the fit or length.

  18. have you ever had a pair of samurai or 45rpm in your hands? or maybe some onis or evisu no1? until you have, you have no perspective on this...

If you put it that way, then no I don't. But tell me then, do $300 jeans last longer than $60 ones? And would I be more satisfied if I had them? Perhaps I would have the satisfaction of knowing and telling people I have this brand and they cost that much, but I'm not interested in that, so it's useless to me. But if expensive jeans are in fact better in some tangible, physical, useful way, you win.

Again, nothing against people who want to buy super nice jeans. Its their choice. I'm just gonna wear my bluenotes.

  19. Don't expect to get sympathy for that statement on this forum....especially since you've never had a pair of $300 jeans to make judgement.

I understand there's status and superior fit in an expensive pair of jeans, but for my own purposes, it's unnecessary to spend that much. I don't really think they'd be more durable. I've never had a problem with stitching or the like coming apart on my cheaper jeans (except for Gap), it's just a matter of them fading or wearing through the denim, which would happen with any pair of jeans, no matter the cost. I've tried on more expensive pairs, and seen nothing to indicate that they are of higher quality construction.

It's the status symbol in a name brand, nothing more, and I'd rather spend my money elsewhere. Sure, I could afford it if I really wanted, but I don't. Nobody I know or see on the street cares what brand of jeans I wear. I don't particularly care, as long as they're comfortable and look good. I found that in a $60 pair of jeans. It's a personal choice, just as you choose to purchase and wear what you like.

I just know I'd regret it if I spent a couple hundred and then messed them up, so I'll just spare myself the regret and buy cheap jeans.

Not trying to start anything, just stating my view on things.
