  1. As far as where to buy peacoats. Go to any army navy store and they can be bought for $120. US made all wool coat. Equal to or better quality of any random $600+ high end fashion label which are more or less copying off the military issued original. Which can be bought with next to no effort. You don't even need to size down for the most part since the coats are available by chest size from 30-46+ Just buy your chest size. It's ridiculously simple.

The only thing army and navy stores won't have are cropped peacoats (but these weren't really mentioned in this thread). This can be altered after purchase anyways.

  2. I've been having a lot of trouble finding a decent pair of slim fit chinos. I've looked at uniqlo, gap, urban outfitters, banana republic etc.

I am thinking I may have to move on to a designer pair, any suggestions? I would like to keep it under 200$

    Thanks,

go back to uniqlo, gap, urban outfitters, insert frute place, etc.. buy the best fitting pair bring $15 and take them to a tailor to have them fitted/tapered. it's a very simple process that just about any tailor can do. even if none of the pants at the stores originally fit how you would like, after being pinned by a tailor you will already see how much better they can look. this simple task works fine on thrift store pants as well. really the only aspect that is somewhat crucial is semi-accurate waist size. every other part of the pant can be easily altered.

not the magic bullet pants which you hoped for but nonetheless an answer that does not involve online shopping/yahoo japan auction, etc.

  3. Yes, Detroit is a gaping pit of despair. Since the death of Dorkwave and Sass there has been a severe lack of decent quality dance parties. Haute to Death steps in with a bro free atmosphere at the Temple Bar on Cass in Detroit once a month. I guest dj and we spin various punk, new wave, electro dance steez. Dress up, dance, spill drinks, make out on the dance floor, do whatever you please. 2651496723_567c6c6c97.jpg

  4. But what about all the other low wage service industry types who's jobs don't relate to food or alcohol, don't they don't deserve a tip for dealing with abuse? Where's the logic there?

I agree with everything that you wrote. I'm also going to add my own rant on the subject of tipping in relation to other low end service jobs. I have previously only worked one job which actually "allowed" tipping. Allowed as in, I would be fired for accepting a tip at any of the other low wage jobs which I have worked.

    LONG RANT:

My job that allowed tipping was my first ever, newspaper boy.

I would wake up at ridiculously early hours and make sure that ever customer had their paper in the storm door of their house by 6am every day regardless of rain, snow, dogs, sickness, school, etc. I was rewarded with a whopping $1-$2 tip (sometimes none at all) for an enitre months worth of first rate service. Many of the times the customers would never even open up their door in order to pay me, then would call my boss if I didnt deliver their paper the following month.

Paper boy/girl=absolute sweat shop wages. Paperboys were payed less than $.02 per house delivered that we delivered to and we were not payed for collecting money for the month. Instead we had money deducted from what we OWED the newspaper company then what was left over, we were allowed to keep. If a customer did not pay for the services, it simply came out of my earnings. So often times trips to collect money from customers had to be made sometimes over 10 visits to the same house.

For a bartender or anyone else to complain about $1 tip for opening a fucking bottle is absolutely ridiculous.

Now for the rest of my service jobs. Good lord, lifeguard. During my stint as a lifeguard three of my coworkers developed skin cancer even though they used sunblock (obviously not effectively enough but still sunblock was used). One of my coworkers became legally blind from looking at the reflection of the sun off the water. At times the most foul things had to be fished out of the pool. I had to treat injuries, rescue distressed/drowning children, call the police/sometimes ambulances, watch complete fatasses swim, the list goes on for a whopping $6.50/hour standing all day outside in the hot sun. We could not accept tips or we would face termination.

The same no tip policy held true for my retail jobs. Now add in doing absurd amounts of special orders, calling out of state to track down items, helping customers make good decisions etc. All the while making an absurdly low wage without tips.

This is just some of the public service that I have done and likely many board members have, all without any form of extra compensation. Why should someone pouring a drink make more money than a janitor, lifeguard, probably in some cases even a police officer? All of these jobs serve the public and are equally if not more involved and have relatively small wages and nobody tips them.

Tipping should be done away with as a means of survival completely, no more of this $3/hour waiter/waitress +tips nonsense. Tipping should be a reward for good service not a given, like it is today.

  5. hmmm. well the majority of times vests have fasteners on the back to make them fit less sloppy. when you tried on the vests did you adjust these? im all about having the slimmest fit but even with the most basic vests i have not run into that much of a fit problem after tightening the clasp on the back. dress shirts on the other hand i simply cannot buy without having them tailored for a proper fit.

it is not a must to buy the same brand/line vest as the pants. though this might be helpful when trying to match specific fabrics or colors.

  6. Not exactly sure if it's been asked but how tight exactly are the Joeys compared to New Standards and how much should be sized down if at all?

generally recommended to size down 1 or 2 since these generally run bigger than tagged + they stretch quite a bit. pics of joeys generally look like they fit tighter than new standards.

  7. opening ceremony high collar jacket in L

although i think i need a M, should i get a L and tailor it (it its too big)

imo: Buy the medium. Paying to have jackets tailored besides minor items like sleeve lengthening can be very expensive.

  8. To be fair, all A77s were covered by a blanket statement excluding them from consideration because they are made like rubbish and not really what I'm looking for.

Also, link me to awesome tight highwaisted designer pants on ebay! They are hard to find!

    fair enough!

maybe track down those previous season jil sander's mentioned?

  9. Yeah! Like that. But tighter!

That will be next to impossible to find since pants of that era were not cut quite as tight fitting as you desire.

    solution(s):

    1. buy similar pants to those pictured above and then have the pants tailored to look like what you are describing.

    2. buy Aprill 77 Costello model pants when they become available.

    2. kopp some extremely rare designer hi rise tight pants at an inflated price off ebay.

  10. this thread was impossible to find using the normal search function. i also found this video that quickly shows you the pinch and pin method.

    http://consumerist.com/consumer/diy/how-to-tailor-your-shirt-with-the-pinch-and-pin-267503.php

    *tip*

You can also use tailors chalk to make a line after pinning to help show where you need to sew. So this way you have a guide that is a more smoothe/straight line for sewing then just following the pins solely.

  11. SO, this morning I went into my closet and discovered that my grey colordrives had a tiny little stain, nothing bad either, it was just a bit discolored... little shit like that bugs the hell out of me though so i went and put some water on it to see if it would go away... it didn't. I tried for the next hour and a half to remove the stain and by the end of those 90 minutes the tiny discolored dot transformed into a large WHITE? patch. It looks like someone jizzed all over it... needless to say, I am disappointed and I feel like dying/crying.

yeah i pretty much dont even bother messing with small spots, i have had this same thing happen too many times with darker denim.

  12. Don't know if this belongs here or in culture, but I was wondering what decks are good to skate? Been away from skating for a while, and I'm looking to get back in. I used to like BlackLabel and Enjoi...they still the shit?

It really doesn't matter what deck you buy. Look what this kid can do on a ridiculously beat Baker.

  13. the jacket looks fine. likely if you find one with wider shoudlers, the rest of the jacket will not be as fitted. like previously stated unbutton the bottom button and do not wear that dress shirt with this suit. really close to a great fit.

  14. Those look like them, but I dont see the cuff on the bottom :(. I really want to find them :D but thanks anyways. I still might try and call them to see if they have them.

    /QUOTE]

on the first pic on the site, you can see that there is stiching on the bottom of the legs going across on the front of the pants in the same exact spot as the picture that you posted for reference. I think that the white pair just has a different color at the bottom, not necessarily a cuff.

  15. I know that previously bluebee sold the april 77 biker jackets. But they no longer seem to be stocking any april 77. I called seven new york before and they mentioned that they only carry the aprl 77 denim.

Does anyone know of a place that stocks or is able to order a size small april 77 biker jacket in the US? Do you think april 77 might begin selling direct due to there small US distribution?
