quick question -- is Girl Talk a proper DJ? I went to his myspace and someone posted pics of him playing a venue... with a laptop... no turntables in sight. I think he's the most overhyped shit ever and I've been trying to get my friends off his nuts and at the very least into Diplo, who is infinitely more talented in my opinion

Also check out the showcases being put on that aren't officially attached to CMJ which you can usually get into for free. Brooklynvegan had a good post about it.

I see it more from the showing nice clothing point of view rather than the wallet size perspective. to be honest I look at that thread quite a bit cause to me its interesting to see what other people have bought..

The Beauty Bar is probably the closest one even thought it veers a little towards the stereotypical hipster bar. They normally book lots of good acts but the upcoming months look bleak. Not in a very good location either.
