  1. This weekend ran the Peachtree Roadrace 10K in 52 mins. I wasnt going for an amazing time or anything, but this was my first 10K and Im very satisfied with my time. The race is the biggest 10K in the country with about 52,000 people running this year. I finished like 5000 something. Im sure if you take out the time it took to dodge 1000 or so slow runners and walkers I wouldve easily made it under 50 mins. All in all it was a great experience and Im thinking of doing another 10K or two before going for the half marathon.

  2. I wouldn't race that far in a pair of shoes without at least a weak of experience with them... that's just personal preference though. Unless it's a really short race, I wouldn't want to risk the potential discomfort of a new pair of shoes.

I will wear them for about a week before the race so I'll see whats up with em before Sunday.

  3. Purchased Nike LunarGlide+ 2 today. A few questions... does anyone own a pair and can give me a quick review? Also, I have a 10K race in Atlanta on the 4th of July. Is it smarter to just wear the shoes I have been running in for months (Nike Torch 4) or is it safe to run in these shoes with very little break in...with expectation on running a bit before the race of course.

  4. What are you guys thoughts on Imperial Bedrooms?

I thought that it's a good stand alone book, but fails as a sequel. He took the characters far removed from what he did in Less Than Zero. Some of the shit borders on cheesy and cheap. Some faux could be ghost story in there. Some cliche detective shit. And, the exposing of the underworld of Hollywood, which is niether new exciting. Vintage Ellis pokes its head in from time to time especially with the passage towards the end of the book that couldve easily been in American Physcho. But all in all I feel like this could have easily been a short story that dragged on a bit too long and if you changed the characters names around you would never know it was a sequel. Dissapointed but slightly entertained for the few hours I spent reading it.

    What Im reading right now...

Just got back from a trip to Savannah Georgia and pretty much fell in love with the place. Always heard about this book which takes place ion the city,,,and saw pieces of the film but decided to give it a read now.

  5. Ha, glad im not the only one waiting for BBE!

    Going to be epic.

    Same here.

I first read Less Then Zero when I was maybe 16 and at such a young age I had never read anything as disturbing and dark. The characters and themes of the book stuck with me and damn near haunted me for years. Some of those images from the book are just hard as fuck to get out of your head. As an adult Ive re-read it maybe 6 times now. The part about it being disturbing has been pretty much been replaced with awe for the actual narrative. Can not wait for the sequel.

  6. Any tips on easing into Vegtarianism? Been wanting to do it for a while but giving up meat, fish, chicken cold turkey seems to be a bad idea. Also, I workout 5 days a week, including distance running and weight lifting. Any suggestions on high protien non meat items i can use? Mainly because what i use after workouts is mainly meat to add the protien.

  7. Great choices, Sub. I agree on the designs. Great, bold designs, usually with some great use of negative space. You could definitely seek out the LPs and frame them and hang them normally, or make if you coudl make a large 3x3 "panel" of using 9 of your favorites.

I don't know where to get prints of the album covers, but if you've got $$$ to burn on this you could seek out some Herman Leonard prints. He has some amazing stuff on his site: http://www.hermanleonard.com/

The Rock Archive (http://www.rockarchive.com) also has photo prints of mostly rock musicians with some jazz icons in there (Miles...)

Those Herman Leonard prints are way out of my leauge Im sure, even though no prices are listed. Excellent stuff none the less. Yeah, i think Im just going to purchase the album covers and make the large 3x3 panel. But first I have to decide which ones I want to get, which is the hard part. I'll keep you guys updated on it and take pics of the final product eventually.

  8. So I'm moving soon and was thinking of new ways to outfit my new place in a style that represents me and my mind automatically went to the amazing album covers that Blue Note Jazz used. I have always admired them and thought that other then great music, they stand alone as art and excellent photography. I did a search for blue note album cover art but all that ever comes up is coffee table picture books. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could purchase prints of Blue Note album covers? Or would it be better just to seek out the actual LPs and have them framed? Has anyone here used album covers as decrative art? LMK what you guys think....

Btw here are some of my favorites...

  9. just signed up for my second half marathon, hoping to beat my 1:54 from last year. shouldnt be too hard, it was like 40 degrees when i had that time

does anybody run barefoot? sounds absurd but i read that its way better for your feet/body etc. im thinkin of tryin it out at the 7 mi provincial park track near my city this weekend

I recently read a book "Born To Run" by Christopher McDougall. Its a true story about an ancient tribe in Mexico I believe, that cut itself off from modern civilization. They happen to be the fastest runners on the planet and they do not wear any shoes. He goes on to explain that any leaps in footwear that Nike or Puma or any other shoe has made has done nothing to make people faster, in fact the more cushioning and futuristic springs etc it seems the more injuries have increased. I think his argument is that the shoes give your feet an unatural arch. He advocates barefoot running as the only way to do it.

Since the publication of the book barefoot running has increased. I see people at my local park who dont wear shoes. Its weird to see to say the least but I heard it really works. Im not sure if its for me, but then again Ive never tried it and probably wont. I dunno might be mental on my part.

  10. I'll try to be as vague as possible so I don't give away anything to people who don't know what happened.

I'm not sure the show is going to progress that way. One reason is that I think David Simon is trying to be a little less based-on-real-life this time around than in The Wire. He still pulls from real life, though, and the John Goodman storyline is apparently based on a real life blogger.

But I don't know about the Sonny and Annie storyline. I'll give you that it's weird that her name is Annie the real girl's name is Addie, but I don't see them having a violate relationship. They just seem to disappoint each other, but not in an out of the ordinary way. Then again, this week we learned the Sonny is from out of the country. He says he wanted to get to New Orleans as soon as he could, so we don't know what he was getting away from.

You could be right & its only speculation at this point. however, the similarities are very strong so it's not out of the question that peoples minds would automatically go there. Especially people familiar with the city. I wonder if this will happen more and more throughout the show. Being able to pin point certain scenes on the show as real life events I mean. For example, the scene where Batiste got his ass whipped by the cops was based on a real life event in the French Qaurter after the storm...I recognized it immediatly.

  11. Palahniuk's new book "Tell - All" dropped yesterday. Anyone planning on reading it. Im gonna pick it up tiday despite every single review Ive read is saying how terrible it is. Yikes. Uts under 200 pages so i figure I knock it out in a day, which will make it better if its a piece of crap.

  12. So, some New Orleans natives are noticing a resemblence to the story of the french quarter musicians on Treme to a reali life event that happened in the which now lives in infamy. the peoiple that they are probably are based on are Zachary Bowen and Adrian hall. I wont say what happened between the two just in case it is where the series is going with it.

But if you dont mind a possible spoiler...click the link to read the real life story...

  13. ^ very good stuff. First blog make sme miss home. I gotta get back down there for a few days this month. A tip for anyone whoever wants to visit. This is the best time to go, right June when it gets unbearably hot...the city is built on a swamp so it gets so sticky that you just want to stay in doors. Go now and you can walk through the french quarter and soak up the atmosphere without all the sweat.

  14. Good show last night. Zahn's character is bigger then I expected it to be and he was actually really funny last night. The street musicians weren't as bad last night as they were the episode before either.
