Some incredible shoes here lately. Haven't bought anything new in a while, but finally just picked these up.
White's Semi Dress
Brown Chromexcel
Swing Last
Single leather with Vibram half sole
Have to say I love the roomy toe box, and the CXL leather is just amazing. Sorry for the sh*tty photos...I'm a horrible photographer.
Got these from Baker's - great people and awesome service.

So, they haven't aged yet as I just got them but I guarantee they will be looking better as they do.
On November 9th I did my foot tracings, wrote a letter describing the options I wanted and sent it all off to White's. On the 18th I received confirmation that my order had been received and since these were to be a Christmas gift from my parents I was told to give them a call in a couple weeks to check on the status to make sure we were on track. I called them on Friday December 4th to check on the status and was advised that they had just shipped out that Tuesday. Quick check of the tracking number told me it was going to be a long weekend but a great Monday (and how often do you really get a great Monday). I was thrilled, that is quick turnaround for custom order boots.
Today the box arrived. Not much to see here...just your basic shoe box with some tissue paper. Simple and no-frills.
My first view of the boots impressed me very much. I love the overall look of these things.
Details are:
Semi-Dress boots size 11.5 D (same size as Red Wing GT, Alden 405 and Barrie
brown Semi-Dress leather
all eyelets in antique finish
tan leather lining
double leather soles
leather toe cap in same leather
single celastic toe box
Sorry for the excess of pictures but I'm just so impressed with these I wanted to share.
Gorgeous boots - nice pickup, congrats!

Bought some new boots - White's Traveler (basically a Semi-Dress with block heel). Captoe with black hardware and leather lining. Wanted something I could wear on weekends as well as in business casual environments

Just wanted to post another testimonial for Self Edge service...ordered the new Flat Head Black Mint shirt at 2:39pm today, and the order was already processed and shipped by 3:09pm. Talk about fast turnaround...kudos to Kiya and the Self Edge team for great customer service!

Selling a pair of SDA SD-103, size 33. Great denim and great jeans, just too small for me. Machine washed twice with boiling water added (no soap) and hang dried, which should have taken care of most of the shrinkage. These have the new arcs and tab, and have only been worn a few times.
Waist measurement = 32
Inseam = 34 (unaltered)
JEANS SOLD.
Also selling a pair of Red Wing chelseas, size 10 in the "Briar Oil Slick" color which is kind of a rich reddish-brown. I'd say these fit pretty close to true size. Lots of wear left, nice patina starting to develop. Retails for $224, asking $125 shipped obo.

ive read a couple posts on sufu about how customs fees were up to like 50-60$ for a pair of jeans from 2nd...hence why most people til now have been using proxys for samurais i think
I've bought a couple of pairs of jeans directly from 2nd, and I've never had to pay more than about $40 for shipping/handling/customs depending on the exchange rate. Probably would work out about the same using a proxy, but I'd rather just do it myself anyway.

BIG is offering SD 103's with these arcs? This photo is from their site, but I thought they sold them with blank pockets. Please enlighten me. (Edit - adding the photo might help)
Also, these are the old arcs correct? These are the same as the ones in Lowrey's post that started this thread.
Those are the new arcs, they are intact on the jeans sold by BiG.
These are the old ones:

The wingtip boots look incredible...Kiya, any chance we could get a side profile and/or shot of the soles?

yeah...i thought so...but this proxy is raping me as well. heh.
you think customs fees to the U.S. would be more than $30?
If you haven't ordered from 2nd before, they now require a bank transfer for the 1st order, which is a huge pain in the ass.
I recently bought some 0500s from them directly and paid about $30-35 in customs and shipping fees. I can try and give you a more detailed breakdown when I get home from work if you want.

Those boots are ridiculously cool. I love the waxed, rough-out finish and the horseshoe heel...I wonder if that is something local shoemakers/shoe repair places can do? Great history behind those as well.

Thanks denimdad,
I understand what you are aiming at. Would you say "the Alden is half the size of a white's semi dress" or something comparable.
No, I wouldn't say the Aldens are half the size of the Whites. I'm holding both right now and the leather on the Whites isn't that much thicker/heavier. What makes the Whites look "bigger" is the design and chunkier sole. The Alden is sleeker with a less pronounced sole.

^ nice nudies...do you carry brass knuckles in the right back pocket?

Hello DenimDad, could you make a comparison weightwise on these three really nice boots of yours? And which one is summer compatible?
Thanks in advance,
Heinrich
In my opinion, the Wescos are the "heftiest" boots out of the three, followed by the Whites and then the Aldens. Despite their history and cinematic reputation, the Aldens are probably the dressiest and most versatile...they can be dressed up or down much more readily than the other two. If I understand your question correctly, I would say they would also be the most "summer compatible".
Familyman summed it up pretty nicely a few pages back:
In the end, the Semi dress is a boot and you wouldn't be afraid to do booty things in it. Go for a hike, shovel the show, push someones car out of a ditch, boot stuff. The Alden at it's heart is a shoe and I think it's much better suited to the shoe stuff that makes up 99% of the lives of 99% of us.Really, you probably need both.

Well after wearing the Wescos most of the day my ankles feel like this:
I'd love to see them with jeans! Here you go. The first shot is the Wescos with the Samurai S3000VX, a relaxed cut. The second is with the SDA SD-103, a more tapered and slim fit (click for larger).
Also wearing it in the rain helps, as well and oiling the leather. Also add an extra insole. They are so comfortable now after a couple months of wear, so its worth it to give it a shot!yeah thats what i did with my loggers boots... i oiled it up and used it it soften up the leather a bit...makes it more comfy to break in.. i put oil specially on the upper heel part where it hurts the most initially..coleslaw, demonito: Thanks, I'll give the insoles and the oiling a try. Luckily here's a little rain forecasted over the next few days so I'll have an opportunity to try this as well.
Here are some comparison shots with other SuFu favorites:
Sorry for the long post...I don't know how to make the pictures appear side-by-side?

Ok here are some pictures. Ordered the 6" black, with the Vibram #430 sole in size 10D. The boots also came with kiltys, a boot care manual, sample bee oil, and a pair of black laces which I requested. I've got them on right now and already they're killing my ankles. I can tell this will be a love/hate break-in process. Please excuse my lame photography "skills"...I got spooked by the shoes on a table/bad luck superstition so I created this elaborate studio with a wrinkled white sheet over an ottoman.

got my Wesco Jobmasters today. Now these are some serious boots - very sturdy and built like a tank. Build time was 14 weeks from boot.com.
Wife has the camera right now, so pics tomorrow!

I'm probably going to get lit up for this question, but is the RWI red wing boot thats on zappos the same as the red wing 875?
And if not, where can I get a pair of the 875's? I don't see any on cultizm or zappos.
I don't know where you live, but I bought mine at a brick and mortar Red Wing store here in northern california, which I found on the website. I have also seen the 875s for sale on ebay, but I wanted to make sure I got a proper fit so I just bit the bullet and paid a little extra to try on and buy in person.

Slab - sure I'd sell them - they are 9.5Es. Send me a PM. I might just go for another fresh pair w/ double leather soles... That would make the toe box look better to me than the single leather they came with. They look lots better now with that extra layer of rubber on the bottom.
I was thinking of the double leather soles also, but am reluctant to start over since the pair I have is really starting to get comfortable. I contacted White's directly and they quoted about $80 to replace the soles, and around $180 for a more complete rebuild including the welt. I may go this route rather than springing for a new pair...

Glad it was useful...I really like the look, I may have to suck it up and get the brown Carpenter's with the Cat's Paw soles as soon as my wallet recovers. The proxy I used was great, total elapsed time from the first email to delivery was 11 days.
Denim - Thanks for that report, I have a better idea about the size now, and it just might work. I'm definitely gonna give the LWs a try. Will contact a proxy soon...0
