  1. I was hoping for a lot more.

They mentioned an online 'fanclub' for 501's, but said it only had 800 members or something. I feel like if they'd have done their research they would have came across this forum or styleforum.

I feel like the History Channel would have done a better job. Does anyone know if they've done a 'Modern Marvels' on Denim or Jeans?

  2. the denim in my experience was hemp/cotton blend for red loop. skinny tapered lowrise. this was like 2003? greenish hue, wish i still had them.

do you mean the redloop drainpipes?

  3. A few rinses? you need soap to get out the greasiness. And probably a couple hard washed.

There are enough oil-stained jeans and coveralls around. Flammable wouldn't be a problem after it's washed out.

yeah, rinse wasn't the right word.

I also have thought about using cleaning solvent (for tools/auto parts) to scrub some jeans.

Also what about baking them? I guess i just thought maybe 'baking' a pair on 450 for say an hour might really tighten the weave up and make for some interesting fades as they stretched back out.

  4. I have had several ideas for experimentation.

I was at a scrapyard and saw lots of steel rusting in a rain puddle. I thought about getting some crappy pieces of scrap steel, or cracked cast iron skillets or something to bring about a lot of rust and soak the jeans in the rusty water.

I also thought about soaking jeans in 10W-30 motor oil for a few months and then rinse them 2-3 times.

I was worried about the oil being combustible though.

I had spilled some gasoline on the bottom of my jeans mowing the grass one day and there was some faint fading from it. If i werent so worried about catching myself on fire I might try immersing a pair in gasoline.

I used to think it would be cool if i had my own jeans company to have a whole group of people who experimented on denim.

  5. This afternoon I picked up a pair of 511s that I will hopefully have a pic of soon, curse my lack of a digital camera. The fit is great, a nice skinny leg with some great stacking at the bottom. The denim is nice and lightweight, so I think these jeans will see a lot of play come the summer. I don't like the almost girl like low rise on my pair, the wash is a little generic and I'd rather have buttons, but honestly it's one of the best fits I've ever had, and certainly beats the shit out of anything you're going to find for under 100 bucks. If you're not a brand whore and don't mind wear 50 dollars jeans and you're looking for a nice pair of slim jeans, I would seriously recomend lookin at the 511s.

50$... i got mine for 16 at Pacsun.

I picked these 503 Bxx's up around Christmas in a thrift store. I've tried contacting Levis twice to get an estimate as to their age etc and they've yet to reply.

The waist tag is paper and reads Lot 503 BXX W29 L34.

The back pockets contain hidden rivets.

    Big E

    Redline

No size or care tags inside the jeans, just the back paper waist patch.

They are buttonfly, the top button on the fly has a 'K' stamped on its back, there is also the V stitching.

The coin pocket does not contain selvage.

I am not sure what other details might be of use. But I was just looking for some info and maybe an estimate as to their value.

I'd searched through a lot of the 501 threads, but wasn't able to find any info about 503's or BXX.

    Thank you.
