It works both ways Jcohen.
Have you seen the equivalent prices for English or US made goods in Japan? As danny says- once customs, tax, rents, and the pounds of flesh that various bodies take from you are factored in the relative costs has to be much higher.
Simple economics im afraid.

I'm sure that 15 or 20 years or so back someone said exactly the same about Japanese selvedge denims. Look at us now. Whole websites and forums devoted to it. I mean, is it really any better than something you can pick up at gap?

Hi all,
I'm posting this for a friend of mine. I've suggested he joins the forum to answer any questions but he's at capsule & then Bread & butter for the next few days so i'm sure he'll be on in due course.
His aims are two-fold. firstly to manufacture some good quality, well priced loopwheeled t-shirts, with the fabric woven in Wakayama. Nothing fancy, just a good classic tee.
Secondly he wants to show some support to the manufacturers in Fukushima which as i'm sure you're all aware were heavily affected by the tsunami a couple of years back.
Anyway- have a look at the link below and the video on it and see if it's something that interests you.

Anyone interested in doing a swap for some Eternal 811's, sz 32 for Momo 0201's or similar?

Hi,
Am looking to swap a pair of Eternal 811's, Size 32 chain stitched to a 32 inside leg with red tab, hot soaked a couple of times, lightly worn with the first sign of whiskers but i'm just not getting on with them.
Measurements:
Waist; 16"
Front rise: 11"
Rear rise: 14.5"
Thigh at crotch. 12"
Hem: 8.25"
Looking to swap for Momotaro, Full count, warehouse, Evisu No 1's, Samurai etc.
Something with a relatively slubby weave. 15oz or so.
Anyone got anything?

Gents- I have some 811's size 32, red tab etc that i'm just not getting on with. hot soaked a couple of times to get shrinkage out and worn not very much. The denim is lovely but I think for these- a slimmererererer cut works better on me.
Anyone got a pair of 883's they'd be interested in swapping?

Can anyone direct me to some fit pics of the cone 1915's? I've ploughed through many many pages but have yet to stumble across anything.
Many thanks

Looking to get back near enough what I paid, so £70 plus postage

I've recently been talking to a Japanese agent about trying to sell some of my bags over in Japan, but once they've added shipping, customs, tax, their own costs and factored in a mark-up, they come out at almost double what I charge for them over here.
It's a big shame, but I can see it's just not practical for them. They need to show some real dedication to turn a decent profit, as does Danny. It's not easy money. Certainly not in this economic climate.
