  1. i have the last one, if not a very close one, but the part at the arm tore after the 10th time i wore it, so i really cannot recommend. and i didnt do anything that i thought will make it break.

no wonder there is a tag inside the garment saying that the quality is not to be expected to be the same as regular northface products.

that said, i have to agree they all look good.

  2. the line on dries is that he's the "belgian ralph lauren" which actually isn't that far off c.f. the resort comment above. like any other established designers, his lines are a mix of basics (which are reasonably priced) and more "theme" oriented pieces which i suppose are bound to have its share of detractors.

although you will almost never be wowed by his men's line (as opposed to his womenswear) they are very solidly made of quality material and occasionally have fantastic detailing as minya mentioned.

i am sorry but i have to beg to differ. comparing dries to ralph lauren is an insult to dries, imho. sorry but i have no good things to say about american designers.;)

i feel dries is good at prints, his stuff often look more ethnic than industrial or avant garde, both common observations for belgian designers.

  3. So, I posted a question in the cobbler specific thread, but didnt really get any info on spots in Tokyo, so I figured this would be the best place to ask:

I recently picked up a pair of used Carpe Diems and the sole needs replacing, but I don't know of any good cobblers in Japan, although I'm sure there is no shortage of them here. I was thinking about taking them over to B1 at Isetan Mens as they sell MTM shit along with other crazy expensive stuff, but I thought one of you guys might have a recommendation?

    Thanks in advance.

    shoe repair specialist.

you might want to try this one. i have seen good reviews about them on tv here and in mags as well. seems to specialise on ur berluttis and j lobbs though.

    give them a call.

    :)

  5. lots of great films, some faves i happened to remember,

a spanish movie by almodovar called 1. bad education is pretty good

then 2. dogville with nicole kidman is good too, esp. coming from someone who cannot stand kidman.

bjork's 3. dancer in the dark

    korean film 4. shuri

shunji iwai's 5. loveletter, hana and alice

  6. oh man. he's spoiling the whole image of how skinny people of dior homme people should be. shame on it! but who cares. he's not trying hard to be skinny anyway, he's wearing loose fit at least, not skin tight but still fat jeans.

is the person on the left wearing imperials? indigo rinsed wash? or what do u call that?

agree with beast on how rare dior jeans are in singapore.

i am more surprised than anything to see people wearing dior homme anything in singapore, knowing how much fashion means to singaporeans.

somehow, the environment just doesnt encourage; so you wear a top to toe raf simons/ margiela/ thom browne/ dior etconly to have someone beside you wearing cheap or imitation stuff, all's fine if they look stylish and all, but they usually dont.

  7. i know what you mean on the prententious bit. but it is cool to have odd, unusual pieces not offered from a particular designer usually, say for eg. a aromatherapy leather pouch from bottega venetta placed next to a similar item from dior homme.

that plus having lots of fashion victims there, myself included, makes seeing beautiful (or not so) people possible.

but paris is a unique city by itself, colette doesnt make it any better nor worse and although i dont make it a point to go there, i usually pop in since i like rue saint honore and hotel costes (another fashion victim's hangout) :)

  8. As far as I know its still available...I know they discontinued Rive Gauche for men and M7 Fresh. Either way, you'll get it way cheaper online at a discount site (perfumebay.com and the like). Even when a fragrance is discontinued...it still lingers in the online shops for at least a few years.

thanks for the info. i shall go look for it at the said sites.

  9. gimmegimme

one question, do you know if m7 by YSL is still available? i kinda like it but i sorta suspect they phased it out after tom ford left ysl...

am using hermes rocabar, and fresh now.

  10. it looks reasonably nice. i will even forgive them for lacking of colors for a resort collection (well, at least the styles and wearability fits for a resort collection, no?).

just that i prefer it to go without the helmut lang label, mr lang has got such presence that he simply cant be replaced.

i still have a few jackets and jeans from his past collections that still look good even til today.

  11. can see myself buying more margielas for fall. some pieces are really awesome.

i would like to ask everyone's opinions about leather pants though...

how should one wear them without looking like guy out from brokeback mountain, or for better or worse, freddie mercury...

i can imagine it is going to look too heavy with a leather jacket but too lacking in balance if i just pair it with a shirt.

    so maybe denim jackets?

I am digging a pair from margiela but am really not sure if it is worth the money. i seriously dont want to cop it and let it waste in the wardrobe, especially it really isnt cheap at all.

  12. i agree totally with cotton duck. me too can never get rid of stuff, lest for the really cheap and lousy quality stuff that i bought when i was much younger. i just find it no longer suit me and neither should own them, so i threw them away.

like you, stuff i like i will keep them, some stuff have been with me for longer than ten years and are still going strong.

i think over the years, i have learnt not to buy things on impulse, even if they are on sale.

only buy when i think they really suit me, even if it is gonna make me feel the pinch in my pocket.

  13. i wont be able to pull off his style, but agreed it will look good on the right person with that attitude.

    eitherway, some trivia:

apparently he worked under helmut lang before hedi slimane, is canadian but studied at a university in vienna.

he also did a collaboration with uniqlo released last year aug.

did some googling on him, his designs are indeed reminsicent of dior homme even before designing for cerruti now.

  14. Some Pieces are awesome. But not really my taste.

Are the models' feet painted on? Just noticed that everyone had like metallic or dark shimmery nails.

thanks for posting this. veronique is really my style, after margiela, of course.

silhouette and palettes are just clean and nice. not summery summery but comfortable.

digressing a bit, i find veronique's price points rather reasonable as well. maybe it's just me, but i really hate the fact that ann makes some of her clothes in china and still put out such a price tag.

  15. tokyo:

select shops like Beams, American Rag Cie, United Arrows, edifice etc are jump starting their sale this Friday.

expect a huge variety of brands, from chrome hearts, to ann dems to rick owens etc.

isetan mens (arguably the largest and possibly the best men's store here) is starting their sale this sat., basically most brands under them are having sale, from mcqueen to raf simons to y-3, dvn etc.

exception:junya watanabe and cdg starts from jul 6

y's for men and yohji yamamotofrom jul 5

    undercover from jul 20.

  16. I can get Costume National suits for about 600-700 Euros at a local store. Seems like their pricing is inconsistent.

not sure about their prices ups and downs in europe or us, but here in tokyo, costume national stuff very quickly goes on sale and prices are rather deeply slashed that i often got a shock. and i am sure many on this board know, tokyo is a place where you can sell used ann dems/ margielas/ for a rather high price. i think they are just not very popular.

to me, the brand no longer appeals to me, this collection as well.

there is no consistency and there is no brand image. they used to have it before but since 2003 it has lost that appeal to me. i still love those black stuff they put out way before and some accessories like those soft calf leather pouch you can wear on your wrist, superb quality and very cool.

  17. gloves

    thanks for starting this thread.

i guess my personal faves have evolved over the years, from some the picking the slightly avant garde and quirky pieces to margielas these days.

at the end of the day, that piece of clothing must fit my body, not tight, but just nice fit, being loose makes me look sloppy and i dont like that really.

and then there is color, my wardrobe consists 90% of black, grey, white, navys. i dont think you can easily find a piece of yellow or orange garment in there, ok, there is dark purple :)

also, since i am no waif so there are some designers i dont fit into.

like gloves, i like carol christian poell but not everything he does. i own this tailored jacket from the early 2000 or 2001 and it still look so beautiful although i have not once wore it but every now and then i will just bring it out and admire. there is also a ccp irisdescent enamel dress shoe that i really like, the worksmanship is cool although i am not sure how long will it actually last, if i were to actually wear it, but i love it nonetheless.

on the other hand, a crochet knitted top i once saw from ccp is something i will not wear though :) as i find it bordering on being feminine, neither will i wear some of his accessories, like the big moustache brush necklace.

what i always like about margiela is the inspiration it provides me, as if there is a story behind it, this is especially true of the artisanal pieces. i really like the idea and i think margiela clothes can be somewhat thought provoking.

other than the above, some other brands that i wear mostly are veronique branquinho, ann demeulemeester, some pradas, wim neel and apc.

if i am in a funky mood, then very occasionally, viktor and rolf and hussein chalayan.

what i wont wear though, are brands that have logos on them, or shout at you to notice it the very instant you saw it. they just make me feel uncomfortable, or clothes that cling to the body.
