  1. Ugh, I really missed the boat on the 25th anniv 46. Probably a good thing since it allowed me the funds available for the TCB comp. That being said, I may end up 'joining' <_< the Signet comp in Dec to get myself a pair since it looks like it's pretty much sold out everywhere in jp.

  2. I'm in - Full tux (representing Sydney, Australia)

Really went back and forth about the jacket sizing  - I have a Levi's type 3 in a M (which is basically a 40 based on the chest/shoulder measurements) but fits slim to the point where I can only have a t-shirt underneath. Decided to size up because, even if it's one wash, if I purchased a 40 and if it shrank further, I'd be f-d. This way, I've got some leeway, and space to layer if needed.

.... versus, having to pack-it-up, resell @ a loss way below retail, then buy a size up or another model @retail ... he was willing to try:biggrin:

Waist stretcher also comes in handy if you've put on a few pounds since your last wearing. ;) Esp with a pair you're reluctant to part with.

Why shouldn't you be able to stretch out the thighs?

Waist bands are cut along the grain from a single piece of denim, is designed to allow a little stretch. The same can't be said of the leg of the jean. Even if you could get a clamp in there, you risk busting the outer seam of your jeans before you get any noticeable stretch.

But you're right, the simplest option would be to buy jeans that fit in the first place.

I wouldn’t advice “stretching” before copping a pair.

Absolutely. Stretching the waist is not a solution to lack of research or bad purchasing decisions. But buying online, based on the measurements off a stock pair with the different ways a pair can be measured, if it turns out that all you just need to do is to stretch out the waist a little to make them a good fit, it's often times an easier solution than to resell.

That's a good tip/technique. But honestly, IMO, that's a royal PIA to have to do everytime you wash them. And, I think, if you have to go that extent to keep the waist from shrinking too much to be wearable, then they're a size too small. The waist will stretch according to how much stress to subjected to, so a 32 won't stretch as much as a 31, over time. It'd be a lot easier just to size up 1.

Homemade waist stretcher. Just mod a bar clamp. I got mine for about $11 at my local hardware store.

It's been a life saver buying online. Just button up, stretch gently to desired width after washing (YMMV - depending on how good your hardware is. I haven't had a button break yet, but then again, I don't buy jeans with tin buttons). Let air dry. I follow the earlier advice and just purchase to thigh size (which you can't stretch out). I've had no problem stretching waist measurements to at least pre-soak widths.

One caveat. Don't use this trick to size down on a straight fit in an attempt to make it a slim straight. Patterns are graded for a reason. If you want a slim straight jean, buy the right cut (ie. Don't cop a cheap pair in the wrong cut during a sale thinking you can just stretch the waist. Won't work, and now there's a ruined pair of KMW 2010 that's probably still hanging in a thrift store somewhere...)

  7. Flathead 5100XX 10th Anniversary Model. Worn on and off for the past few years, but solidly for the past 8 months. Not sure of the number of washes, but a lot (about once every 2 months). Last pics before being washed and shelved in favour of my Samurai S710s. Sorry for the cell phone photos.

  8. I bought my pair of 55's in 2006 in size 34 which was TTS at the time (my other jeans were Imperial Dukes size 34 and Nudie Regular Ralfs size 34 (yes, 'R'alfs). For some reason the 55's were baggy-arsed (compared to the Dukes), even after two hot washes and hot tumble dry.

I now wear 47's in size 32 and since my weight hasn't changed much since then, just shows how body composition can make a huge difference in sizing.

  9. From left to right: Fullcount, BiG x Samurai USA model, Samurai S0500XX.

Apologies for the crappy Samsung S3 photo, but that's all I've got on hand atm. The USA and S0500XX have been hot soaked and dried already. I'd say the Fullcount feels similar in texture to the USA model (obviously not in colour, though the FC may be more blue once hotsoaked).

  10. IIRC the S0500 and the S0505 were different denim (now I'll have to rummage my collection to find my unworn pair of S0500XX and compare it). I remember when I picked up the BiG USA collab (last of the deadstock 0505 denim - did the re-release S0505XX-RR just use the regular 15oz from the S0510XX?).

  11. Got mine! Denim is nothing like the standard 13.75oz. Ed mentioned they're similar to Samurai's 15oz, to me feels kind of like the old S0505 denim (have to rummage my collection and compare it to the BiG USA model). Unbleached weft gives it almost a grey cast. Love the olive herringbone pocket bags.

  12. @IJ: are those 1951 from the original MN Denime contest?

Yep. What was once lost is found again. I'm giving them some wear before my Fullcounts arrive.

  13. ^^Mondo. That VX denim is crazy. It was just too bad I couldn't make that lower rise work for me. I had them in the closet and never wore them. Glad it went to a good home.

  14. I'd hang onto them in case you gain the weight back. Which is what happened to me. Lost a ton of weight, sold off almost half of my collection at fire sale prices (ugh, so much regret) because I thought I'd 'never' be a size 34-36 again. Then steadily gained back about 10kg over the past 5 years or so. And now I don't have the money to buy new jeans (I'm saving all of my size 31-33 jeans in case I lose the weight or buy a decent waist stretcher).
