  1. No idea how nice the leather on these is, they are a pair of Johnston&Murphy Passports i got at Saver's 1-2 years ago. They need some oil, and maybe a resoling. should i leave it as is? worried about the ground eating into the leather that used to be protected by rubber.

you should probably resole, walking on badly uneven soles tend to be bad for your posture (at least in my experience), even though they are not expensive, they do look nice so it would be worth it

  2. My Orvis x Alden Aviators tried to kill me in the 1-2" dusting we have in Boston. I'm amazed by how slippery the Alden composite soles (same as the Indy's sole) are in snow. Anything to be done short of a resole to increase traction?

These things need hobnails if you want to wear them in winter. . .

I would recommend getting another pair with Commando Soles or even the 404 with the serious lug sole. Indy's with the neoprene sole are 3 seasons boots as far as I'm concerned, they are great year round but horrible in even slight snow/ice.

  3. the laces are actually cheap leather laces from CVS/pharmacy. They were really bright and stiff but I coated them once with Obenauf's and they are darker. I could have used another coat but I like the contrast at the moment. I replaced the standard brown laces after they broke.
