  1. philadelphia pa. hostile city USA. former fattest city in america.

i used to have a love/hate relationship with philly. being from the area i knew i had to get out for a bit to see what else was out there, and i'm still not 100% i've settled down here yet, but i know i eventually will. It's got such a rich history, amazing attitude, great food, decent shopping, great beer, wawa, and cheesesteaks.

It's always played 2nd fiddle to NYC, the nytimes called it the "6th borough" which is just fucking disgusting if you ask me. It's so unique that if you don't get it, you don't get it...

I live just outside Philadelphia and my girlfriend lives over there with her family quite a bit. I'll actually be moving there by september and when the city is on it really is nice. I think the attitude can leave a little to be desired but on a nice day I think it can be wonderful

  2. If people are looking for items still today pm me. I live within 45 minutes of 4 H&Ms. I live in New Jersey (which means no sales tax on clothing!)and I'd be willing to pick up some of the less expensive items in the next week or so but I'm leaving on March 6th for a trip to CA so I need to be safe about the money I have. They have some really nice slim cut suits right now that range from $120- $299 for a whole suit. I only saw one leather coat and I believe it was under $200 but I'm not sure, I do know I liked the way it looked though. I'm on ebay and I have all good feedback (kyleben86) so if anyone would need this still paypal would be best. PM me and specific items!

  3. -Make sure she notices your new copy of VICE.

-Then proceed to make sure shes aware of the cheap looking $22 v-neck tee you bought from American Apparel in some obnoxiously bright color that matches nothing you own.

-Wear out the shittiest pair of converse or dunks you possibly own

At this point you should start mentioning this party and all the coke that will be there.

Or you could just treat her like shit.

  4. are you fucking serious there are people out there who think zombies that eat humans like night of the living dead actually exist? hahaha!

Don't come crying to us when your skull is in shambles and you've got a hankering for some brains.

  5. I was wondering if anyone is from around here that knows of a good place to go, as I need to find somewhere that doesn't just butcher away from now on. I had heard American Mortals does pretty good work, but figured I'd ask around? Thanks.

  6. get a jcm800 first before you go boutique. the distortion/preamp on it is amazing. There's a reason why they say that Van Halen plays a JCM800 behind stacks of 5150's. Corgan used it and Shields used it. That's enough convincing for me.

    Mmmmmmmm. jcm800. Good call.

  7. I've done work as a stylist. What kind of styling do you want to do? magazine spreads? personal/celebrity?

The money is in personal/celebrity. Most people doing spreads starting out or on average only make a couple hundred a day (dayrate). That's really not much. It's great for photoshoots that are like 45 mins or working fashion week/a fashion show that's less than half an hour, but there are days when you do 16 hour a day shoots and you'll make less money than if you were flipping burgers.

The best way to get yourself in the door is to be a stylist assistant. This means a lot of bitch work and I do mean a lot. You'll be running around holding garment bags for them, picking them up and dropping them off. Running to stores to get clips, drinks, food..etc. Burning your fingers steaming clothes. On the upside? You're usually the ones that get to help the models put on their clothes. :)

Once you're on your own it generally sucks if you don't have really mad connections. There have been many times where I've pulled some pieces from chanel or marc jacobs a week in advance and then vogue comes in last min and takes it from me. Most showrooms don't give a shit about the little guys like us doing smaller publications because its all about the big name.

But other than that all I can really tell you is contact a stylist (you can find names in magazines. Call them up, they're usuall great about giving contact info) and seeing if they need assistants. Then working your way around it from there. Also, check out thefashionspot.com, they have a great thread on "how to be a stylist"

In your personal experience do you think it's absolutely required to have a degree relating to this? I didn't see anyone mention this. This was super informative too, thanks.

  8. I live near a vans outlet but you can really only get them for about $10 usd off from the asking price which is around $40 usd according to the vans website. I'd offer to do this for you, but I don't have any money to pay for it all up front this week and I don't really have anything from Sweden I particularly need right now. But if you don't hear from anyone else, let me know and we'll see if we can work something out.

  9. I had read somewhere (I believe on mynudies) that the organic denim fades less than the synthetic. I think I'll probably purchase the organic because I have a pair of jeans from Ruehl with a similar tone and I really love the wash. And pics of the organic ES would be great!

  10. Hey everyone, I'm a big fan of Nudie Jeans and one of their new designs the Even Steven will soon be released in regular dry and organic dry denim. I'm debating on getting the two but can't tell which to get! The mynudies forum is of no use for my question which is, does anyone have photos of organic denim after fading? I assume it looks like grey cast so either of the photos would be great so I could make my decision! Thanks!

  11. I actually tried on two pairs of their selvedge jeans in the past two weeks, I work in a mall here in New Jersey so I stop in there every now and then. I actually heard a discussion going on from other people that even after they were finished reading the tag still could care less, so Gap's attempts to impress seem to be ignored. The prices also seem to be dropping rather quickly. They recently dropped the price on their PRODUCT RED line selvedge jeans cutting it basically in half from $198 to $98 along with the rest of the line, I guess it's just not doing that well. The fit on the RED jeans I actually liked, but I'm still going to wait till the price plummets some more.

Also, my girlfriend used to live in California and while she lived in huntington beach she spent some time up in sf over the past two years and when she said she wanted to go back, I tried to convince her we should go there instead of huntington, but only cause I wanted to visit your store haha. Unfortunately it didn't work out but I hope to make the trip one day!

  12. If you're familiar with Charley's Jeans on 2nd and Market they take all their stuff to Steven's on 2nd and Chesnut. They apparently do pretty good work usually, including original hem reattachment
