  1. mackelface: that frame is a pretty good project frame, but its definitely big. how tall are you? i'm 6'2" and ride a 57. there's a good fit calculator here: http://www.competitivecyclist.com/za/CCY?PAGE=FIT_CALCULATOR&gender=M&units=cm

    plus, stuff like:

fancy pantographing on seatstays, bottom bracket, and fork crown

    campagnolo dropouts

    means nothing.

I'm 6'1" so I'm right under you, so I figure I need a big frame since my legs are pretty long. What about the bike in the CL ad I linked to, is it worth what he's asking for? I really don't need anything special at all, a completely barebones fixie is what I'm looking for because I want to grow into it and add parts as I learn what they are and how they work and whatnot.

  2. mackelface: from what i can see on those parts (miche seatpost, miche cranks, cinelli alter stem) that bike is already worth more than a pista. except... dude's only selling the frame, fork, bb and headset. can you build a bike?

Not at all. Would a local bike store be able to put it together? What else would I need, besides a set of wheels?

Would something like this be more in line?

  3. Would this be a good starter bike, or should I just ge ta brand-new Bianchi Pista?

1987 Montagner road frame & fork (the rest of the stuff you see isn't included)

58cm seat tube, 58cm top tube

Oria ML25 tubing - crimped top, seat, and downtube - the ultimate in 80s tubing technology

fancy pantographing on seatstays, bottom bracket, and fork crown

    campagnolo dropouts

very smooth campagnolo headset, recently overhauled

    26.8 seatpost

    italian threaded bottom bracket

  4. I believe he was referring to the depth of the image. All the interesting related things going on in the background supporting the foreground.

Yeah I had a feeling it meant that as well. Thanks for the clarification.

  5. Badass.

Dogs and layers...doesnt get much better :D

That wasn't done in Photoshop, all one picture. If that's what you meant by layers.

Nikon users: I'm looking to consolidate my lenses, would I be happy with having just my Sigma 10-20 as my wide, a Nikon 18-200 VR as my zoom, and a 50mm prime (tne 1.8 one) for my low-light stuff? I have too many lenses right now, and I'm just dying to buy that 18-200 VR.

  6. Going to my local bike shop tomorrow and seeing if they have any Pistas, if they do I'll be posting pictures of it since I am buying one. Would it be a bad idea to give my bike a paintjob? I don't really like any of the Pista colorways except for the greenish one, I was thinking a rattle-can black would look much better than anything else.

  7. You know the feeling of stumbling upon something and knowing right then and there that you're about to fall in love with it and make it another one of your life's passions? This thread gave me that beautiful feeling. I feel enlightened.
