  1. Stopped by the Arcteryx Factory Store today.

I only had my phone for a camera so pictures are not great. They had a small amount of Veilance gear for sale.

Everything was factory seconds, though not for particularly deep discount. They had the manila Field jacket in medium, large and XL ($995.00 marked down to $497.50), Stealth pants in 32 and 33 ($475 -> $332.50), Canvas Jeans in 32 & 33 ($400 -> $280), Field Pants in 32 & 33 ($450 -> $315), along with blazers, the duffle coat and the hooded one (I forgot what it was called).

  2. I don't know how to tell you guys this but the Duck is gone. I don't know what has happened to him but I can't find him anywhere - not only that, all of his stuff is gone too. He has been acting a bit strange at times but I didn't think he would leave. Not sure what to do.

  3. Cookiecutter Shark

    Isistius-brasiliensis.jpg

The name "cookiecutter shark" refers to its feeding habit of gouging round plugs, like a cookie cutter, out of larger animals. Marks made by cookiecutter sharks have been found on a wide variety of marine mammals and fishes, as well as on submarines, undersea cables, and even human bodies. It also consumes whole smaller prey such as squid. Cookiecutter sharks have adaptations for hovering in the water column and likely rely on stealth and subterfuge to capture more active prey. Its dark collar seems to mimic the silhouette of a small fish, while the rest of its body blends into the downwelling light via its ventral photophores. When a would-be predator approaches the lure, the shark attaches itself using its suctorial lips and specialized pharynx and neatly excises a chunk of flesh using its bandsaw-like set of lower teeth.

  4. Took the Duck to Historic Chinatown for a quick lunch today. We visited the Phnom Penh Restaurant where, oddly enough, Anthony Bourdain ate when here. They have a really nasty sign so it must be authentic.

We ate hot and sour soup from authentic bowls.

    2011-08-10-02.jpg

And had Beef Lok Lak - they forgot the egg so they brought them after.

And Deep Fried Cambodian Crack Wings. So addictive that you can't stop eating them until it is far, far too late. Oh the regrets I have.

I am going to be sending the Duck on soon. He grows restless and is becoming somewhat irritable.

  5. The Book of the Duck opens not with dire warning, but promises of blessing for the lost.

    2011-08-09-08.jpg

The passages which I will show pertain to the near mythical and much debated "RandR Era" of the Duck. Though these days were never adequately documented in this thread, there were whispers of wondrous revelations during those heady Paris days. We begin with the arrival of the Duck and proceed to the ultimate revelation as to the true nature of the Duck. I include only excerpts here - the full text is for those disciples who bear the burden of the Duck for a time.

  6. Episode in which the true nature of the Duck is revealed.

I have spoken with those more powerful than myself and have been given special dispensation to reveal for the first time select pages from the Book of the Duck - pages which speak arcane truths to those who would seek them.

But before that, I thought that I should give a brief update regarding the items with which the Duck travels.

A note from the previous shepherd.

The famous stole of Lady Jane.

    Supleme.

Extra Raf buttons should one be lost.

    2011-08-09-04.jpg

A bit of fabric from Undercover could come in handy.

    2011-08-09-05.jpg

And 3D glasses should the need arise.

A bit of blatant advertising doesn't hurt either.
