  1. Yeah, exactly, that's the thing. And right now I can get my hands on a pair of 36 but not 34.

I would hold off, unless you want a loose fit. And if you want a loose fit, they have a another model called 2010.

  2. Thanks a lot for the informative repsone. I think I've decided on these now. So you're saying - since I'm in between 34 and 36 - that I rather should size down to 34 than size up to 36? I'd rather buy true size but since that's not an option...

I'd size down before I would size up.

Why can't you buy your true size? My 1950s are 31/32, so KMW does make odd sizes. Maybe check another store.

  3. What do all y'all think of the 1950's? I'm looking for something maybe a little fuller cut than NS, to mix it up a bit, but nothing really baggy. Hands on impressions?

Also, what about sizing? I'm a 35 (33 in NS and Somet straight, 36 in PBJ one wash). Do they run big? Stretch a lot?

bonjin -- The 1950s are my primary jean right now, and I love the fit. Definitely not baggy fit. It's a very classic straight leg jean.

They do stretch a lot, but not insanely. The waist stretched to about .5"-1", but I always wear a belt. The thighs were snug, now they're roomy. You could safety go down one size from your natural waist. I went with my natural waist, but I could have gone down a size easily. However, I am still very happy with the fit.

So it's up to you. Natural waist for a classic fitted jeans or one size down for a superfuture fit.

I think that you'll love the KMWs, the denim is beautiful with a great hue. And the quality and details of the jeans are top notch.

Chicken -- I'm curious how the Vibram sole is doing on the 405s. I have a pair of 405s, and I love them. But the neoprene sole is no good for winter, because it has no traction.

Have you had any experience in the snow with the 405s? If so, how do the Vibrams perform on snow? Did you switch to the Vibram sole for traction or comfort?

I've always thought the 405 would be a good winter boot, but it lacks the traction. Perhaps this is an option.

  5. from my experience it's not so much the leg measurement as it is the waist measurement on 811's. they're about 2 sizes smaller than tagged it seems.

For me, it came down to leg measurement.

My natural waist is 31, and the first pair of 811s I bought were 30s. The waist fit fine, but they were tight in the thigh. They gave a bit in the waist, but I found the legs didn't give as much. I sold these, but I was so in love with the 811s I bought another pair. This time one size up from my natural waist, which was a perfect fit. The waist is fitted, but not tight; and the legs are slim without being tight.

I would say the 811s are one size smaller than tagged, rather than two.

  6. i wear a size 32 in the 811, and in other japanese jeans im a 30 or a 31. i would caution sizing down on these

    +1

I sized down 1 from my natural waist, and they were way too tight. I'm not sure of other people's experience. but I don't find the 811s stretch as much as other denim.

I later picked up another pair, this time 1 size up from my natural waist. Perfect.

They only way you could size down on 811s is if you have very skinny legs. If you have strong legs, go up a size.

  7. Was at BiG on Tuesday, and saw a stack of contest jeans that were being shipped out. I'm so jealous that I didn't join the contest, the jeans are beautiful (love the denim). The silhouette is very modern. And the details...awesome.

I can't imagine anyone wanting to part with these jeans. But if anyone has a 29 or 30 they're looking to sell, drop me a line.

  8. soda ... oni blue's and 003's.
And Soda - to complete your collection - 45rpm sohariko and PBJ XX07...
Soda: If you were having trouble/issues with your current eternals, then I'm not sure if the pbj xx-005 should be a next option. They'll just be as tight and maybe even slightly tighter and have a lower rise than the 811's.

If you still want that special slubbiness character, though in a more forgiving fit, go for the xx-003 or the oni' blues. Then pick up a pair of the 45rpm or warehouse for your other pair to complete your collection as beatle mentioned above.

Thanks Everyone -- I thought that I would pick two of pairs while in NYC, but I ended up with four.

Oni Blues - love the fit and the denim, very tactile. Although they are so stiff, can't wait for them to soften a bit. Doing the robot walk.

Eternal 811 - sized up 1 from natural waist. Definitely a better fit with a bit of room, my last pair were my natural waist (too tight). Still one of my favorite jeans, which is why I picked up a second pair.

45rpm Sohariko (Black Overwash) - great fit, beautiful details, lovely hue. Can't wait to see how these break in.

    and...

Nudie RRVI - never been a big fan of Nudies, but I saw a pair for cheap and picked them up. Mostly because of the vegetable indigo hue, they're such an interesting color. And I will have to admit that I'm really liking the fit.

I tired the PBJ XX-003 which felt a little wide legged for me, and they didn't have the PBJ XX-007 in my size.

munkyballz - the recommendation of the Warehouses is good. But BiG is low on Warehouse stock right now (at least in my size). Althought I did see a bunch the the contest jeans which were being shipped out. They are gorgeous. Not sure what the final price was, the website says $145. If that's the case, everyone in the contest just got the best bang for their buck I've ever seen. I am very green with envy.

  9. So...I'm in NYC next week, and I want to pick up some denim. Going to Blue in Green and 45RPM.

    I have KMW 1950, Samurai SO500XX, and Eternal 811.

Love all three, but would like to pick up two more while I'm in NYC.

    I'm thinking about PBJ XX-003 or XX-005, Samurai S5000VX or S710XX 19oz., Oni Blues, Warehouse 1001XX or 45RPM's Sorahiko 45 Slim.

I'm also thinking about getting a second pair of Eternal 811s. I love the ones I have, but they haven't given much since I've bought them. I was going to go up a size, I previously bought my natural waist. Which fits well on my hips, but tight on the thighs. Really tight.

I thought the PBJ XX-003 might be a nice straight cut. I have rather large thighs, so I'm not a 100% sure that the Eternal 811 and PBJ XX-005s are for me. But I do love the 811's denim and details. So maybe something more straight than slim?

Anyone have any on the list? Any recommendations?

  10. A lot of good vintage Woolrich stuff turns up at thrift stores with some frequency.

That's where I found my Woolrich items. I have a couple of jackets and sweaters, great for camping.

  11. 970336851.jpg

My latest thrift store pick up, a brand less;leather satchel bag.

Argh! I've been looking for that exact bag for the past 8 months. Closest I came was a bag from Pike Market, but it was $200.

    Excellent score. Cheers.

  12. Just bought a pair and they fit my waist fine, but the thighs are rock star tight to the point of compressing my thighs.

    How tight is too tight?

Anyone with 811s vouch for the stretch factor?

I normally get my true size (Kicking Mules, Samurais), but maybe I should have upsized the Eternals?

I've read the Eternal thread, but most people seem concerned with the waist and I'm concerned about the thighs. Too much cycling I'm sure.

    Any help?

  13. sc1945 in a size 32. my waist is 33 give or take half an inch. the waist in my eternal 811s fits fine but the legs are just so damn tight. if you remind me I can tell you how much they have stretched in a week or so

I just picked up a pair and I was hoping the the thighs would relax in a week's time.

    Any luck?

  14. I'm confused why anyone needs to know how to pinroll.

Back in the 80s there weren't alot of style options when it came to jeans, which is why you pionrolled or tapered with a sewing machine. To achieve a cut or style that wasn't available.

But now there is every imaginable cut. So why pinroll bootcuts, when you can just buy tapered jeans.

What's the next? Turning tapered jeans into bootcuts. Like those hippie girls who splice their jeans on the outseam, and add a triangle piece of fabric to widen the leg opening.
