  1. 1. What are some of your early memories of sufu? Were people generally nice, or did they give you a tough time for being a noob?

I just read at first, learning what the social cues were before entering the fray, so I never got a tough time from anyone. I remember being slightly overwhelmed with all of the label names that I couldn't decipher (xx005, SD103, s0500xx, etc.)

    2. Do you feel like your avatar/username is an extension of your offline personality? If yes, how so? If no, why not?

I guess a little. I picked the name Miles for a messageboard back in 2000.About a week prior to that, I made a long-term plan to one day get an english bulldog and name him Miles (for Miles Davis). I used it as my name because I didn't want to forget.

I suppose I see myself a bit as a cool, jazzy guy. But the name doesn't embody me or anything. And no, I still haven't bought the dog.

    3. When you got your first rep points what was it for? Did you have to ask? Was it from someone you knew? What do you think people consider most when they give positive rep? In other words what drives you to give rep?

It was a few months ago, when I made my first WAYWT post. Tangerine liked my outfit. Since I'm not a power player here, I assume he was sincere. I also think everybody would agree that Tangerine is also one of the nicest guys on the board, so I wouldn't be surprised if he was just trying to foster a quietier guy like me to become more active.

Personally, I don't think I've ever given rep for somebody's outfit. Only when somebody writes something intelligent, funny, or helpful.

    4. In terms of gender, how many users (in percent) would you approximate to be male or female? Do you think sufu attracts more heterosexual or homosexuals?

It would seem 99+% male. Think I can count all of the female members on one hand.

I can't accurately estimate sexuality, since I'm only aware of a few board members who bring it up. It's safe to guess that it skews more homosexual than the reported global average due to generalizations about fashion and homosexuals.

If reported global average is 90% straight, then maybe SuFu is 80% straight?

    5. What interests you the most about sufu? What keeps you coming back?

While my style doesn't scream elitest, I like having the knowledge of an elitest.

    6. How many people have you met from sufu and actually interacted with offline?

Two. Met Kiya at his store, and one other board member was there.

  2. Here's an embarrassingly newb question:

After 4.5 months of daily wear, I just gave my SD-103s their first soak (besides the inital pre-wear soak).

My combs were never very deep, and fading was pretty faint. And now, having been submerged in my tub, and creases are gone (like khophian92!!!). Obviously, the new creases that are setting are different from the initial ones.

Ultimately, I guess I'm asking, did I fuck this up?

  3. If ya can't laugh at yer self... Oh well...

For real, way to be a sport about it. Seriously.

It's just ironic to me that the SE x IH collaboration is so emblamatic of the best of SuFu, yet the thread is essentially what this site is not supposed to be.

At least you've go a sense of humor about it. Moreso than the other dudes quick to come to your defense.

  4. Selfedge is great.

    Kiya's the man.

The SE x IH collaboration looks excellent.

But fuck, that thread has devolved into a sad joke. The same collection people obsessing over and over about these jeans.

    When are they coming in?

    Have they come in yet?

    How about now?

    Now?

    What about now?

    Are the BKs smaller?

    How much?

    What size do I get?

And a lot of those pictures are just depressing. People getting the wrong sizes and shit. It's a shame.

  5. Might want to check m0851 on Wooster. Kind of minimalist. Light, breathable fabric. Not even remotely stodgy. Good, slim fits. And it was less than $400. Not a proper trench (no belt), but definitely falls in the spring/autumn rainy weather coat genre.

Or you could get a Macintosh from Jack Spade for $850. Those things are amazing.

Edit: Pretty sure the one posted directly above is the Jack Spade Mac.

  6. ttiwwop

    +10

I just had to Google ttiwwop to figure out what it means. You crazy kids with your acronyms.

Anyway, I agree with you in theory. But in response to the legions out there posting denim porn that's not yet ready for public consumption, I've decided to wait until these things are really fresh before getting all self-indulgent on your asses.

  7. how are they coming along for 101 days? Ive had mine about 2 months (sd-101), no wear really yet

They're coming along slowly but surely, but not denim porn ready. You should stay on it though -- I saw a fairly dramatic change from month 2 to 3, with some fading in the knee finally becoming apparent, and the lap fades and whiskering becoming really pronounced as well.

  8. The jeans salesman at Jeffrey's...

One of the guys who works there -- or used to -- was a fellow denim lover (can we make denimphile a word?). We got into a long discussion about raw denim, and evidently he's got a small stockpile of old, raw Helmut Langs that he's been sitting on.

He actually looked just like Kiya, except white, and even more slight.

  9. i feel so promiscuous

You were one of the guys I was thinking of who seemingly has a pretty good collection going, with different jeans for different occasions.

I do not. This is why I've been avoiding my black boots for the past few months. I hate the way they come off on the 103s. I just have to find a time when the Skull 6x6s are in stock at BiG while I'm in New York. Or maybe Self Edge will start carrying (hear that Kiya?)

But until then, it's SD-103 or bust!

  10. I'm on Day 101 of consecutive wear with my SD-103s. But I can see the end in sight, assuming I move back to New York this summer.

Having seen that guy's 4+ year old Nudie's, I'm sure there's plenty of people who've been putting in more time than me.

On the other hand, some of you seem to be rotating 5+ pairs at any given time.

So how many days in a row has it been for you?

  11. I listen quite a bit. It's funny, now that I'm living in San Francisco (for the time being), jazz just doesn't sound as good as when I was living in New York. It's difficult for me to explain, but in a way it just sounds incongruous.

Anyway, rather than listing the classics that I like (because we all, essentially, listen to the same guys), let me hip you to this young guy I saw a few years ago: Christian Scott. Trumpet player. I'm not an aficianado, so it's difficult for me to articulate what was so special about him. But you could just tell.

His first album, "Rewind That", is pretty good. It's a little too reminiscent of Buckshot LeFonque at times, but overall a really fresh listen. If you had to download one song for a sampler, I'd recommend "So What".

    Word.

  12. Similar thing happened a couple years ago while waiting on my stoop for my Chinese to be delivered. Except it was in Chelsea. And there were two shots -- not 15. And the guy missed. And I lived across the street from the projects, with a fair amount of gang activity.

I guess the only similarity is that is was New York, and there was shooting.

Anyway, glad to hear you're alright. I know that shit fucked with my head for a while. Do you find yourself a bit jumpier today or anything?

  13. I happened to swing by the famed City Lights bookstore today, and came across three lit journals. I only flipped through them, so I'm not sure how good they are, but figured it was worth sharing the names so you that are interested can check into them:

    - Black Clock

    - Zoetrope

    - Kitchen Sink Magazine

I happened to pick up n+1, and as advertised, it really is self-consciously intellectual.

    We'll see how it goes.

  14. Miles my point is this trim/low trend will fade it was around in the late 60s early 70s and faded then/ back now created by marketing folks so they can sell more stuff and the classic fit of say the 201s will still be just that classic. Just like an A-2 or a G-1 flight jacket; classic.....

Surey the trim/low trend will fade. But, as you would have to agree, so did the cinchback full-cut of the 201s -- over 75 years ago at that. I'd say the 201s are akin to the top hats favored by nearly all men in the late 19th and early 20th century. They were classic and practical at one time, but now they generally look affected. And that's fine.

My point is, I think it's antithetical for a look so emblamatic of a specific time period to be considered timeless.

And to be clear, in no way am I criticizing your collection. I think it's great. I'm merely questioning your motivation for sticking to such a level of historical accuracy.

  15. For me I prefer the more authentic cuts. Fashion trends come and go but those classic cuts will always be in style.

I respect your dedication to the authentic details, but I don't know how you can argue than the original cuts are more "in style" than slightly altered interpretations of them.

And I think it comes down to the division between what's classic, and what's instyle. For instance, the 1920 201 is unquestionably classic, but I think it falls far outside of what most people (not on this board, of course) would call "in style".
