  1. To that end I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with Duncan Quinn, Lord Willy's or can recommend an alternative tailor to seek out for custom shirts.

Both of these guys are very legit. Quinn's direction seems to be more fitted and trim, I'd guess better for your slender frame. Lord Willy's generally have a more traditional, wider frame.

Ultimately, bespoke is bespoke. And they do, in fact, use outstanding materials. Both outsource materials/production from UK, if I'm not mistaken.

  2. Question: can they be professionally removed? If so, will it compromise the structure?

Of course they can be removed. Almost any alteration imaginable can be done by the right guy.

The "structure" as we're calling it, will be fine. It's not like the jeans will fall apart if you fuck around with some pocket flaps.

    ...Or the look?

How can it compromise the look? You don't like the flaps. It's pretty easy to imagine how they'll look without flaps. What do you think? It's all you, buddy.

Or, is it simply a stupid idea to play around with a jean that way?

We're talking about jeans here, not a piece of history. And pocket flaps at that. Play around, fuck 'em up. As is often said around here, they're just jeans. Do with them what you wish.

  3. The old ball & chain convinced me to drop $160 on a pair of Vilebrequin trunks. I went with the traditional (shorter) cut that hits about mid-thigh. The shape is really nice, and the suit actually does have features that help justify the price:

    - limited runs on all designs

    - comes with an airtight plastic wallet for the pool

    - some technology to prevent bubbles and rabbit ears (pockets hanging out)

    - plastic travelling to bag in case you have to travel with a wet suit

    - 15-minute drying time -- or so the saleswoman said. That's proven to be bullshit though.

All worth $160? If you're a sucker for premium brands, probably. If your a tech nerd, definitely not.

Ultimately, I'm still getting used to how colorful they are. They've definitely grown on me somewhat. Fortunately, I don't chill in the Hamptons, where I'm led to believe that every moneyed douche bag owns a pair of these.

  4. So I figured out that half the reason why my feet always look so stupid is because I am flatfooted. Well, I've had a pair of orthodics sitting around for awhile so I popped them in. World of difference.]

Wait, you saying the orthotics make your feet look different? Cause my feet are like paper-flat. But I've never felt like I look different. At least not my feet...

  5. those of us who know the different between feeling the curves of a woman pressed into their body, versus the definitionless jagged hips and ass of an undercover boy still call it that.

This is important, and bears repeating.

I'm afraid alot of the youngsters on this board have likely still never been with a real woman, with actual female body parts. Or perhaps I'm projecting, because I always dated tiny girls. But eventually realized that small chicks:

    a) look better with clothes on, and

    B) aren't really comfortable with their bodies to wild out

I even went through a string of petite chicks (no ass or waist) with big tits. It was my Jennifer Love Hewitt phase I guess.

And eventually, even somewhat hesitantly, I found girls that had all the right curves. And sometimes those chicks have tummies too. It's a fucking revelation.

  6. The stock is oooookayyyyyyyy, but I think it reflects their desire to shift this location slightly more towards racking up sales rather than sticking to their original location's

    aesthetic or ethic.

I'll co-sign this too. In a nutshell, I get the sense that the Lafayette store carries a ton of Trovata, and shit that you can get pretty much anywhere. The EV shop, given their smaller space, keeps the focus on more unique items. That's my take, anyway. Really though, I got to get back there.

  7. Co-signing all the shit about the Lafayette location.

Since I've been living in San Francisco for the past year+, I've gone to the Lafayette location exclusively since my friends live nearby. Totally sucks. And this whole time, I'd just assumed that, as a company, they'd shifted sensibilities. Really glad to hear the EV location is still holding it down. Will have to hit it up while I'm back in town next week.

  8. In San Francisco outside the Ferry Building.

You are a Japanese dude, mid-30s I'd guess. Long black ponytail, long, scruffy beard. Wearing streaky jeans, with a noticeable bootcut. Nice wallet fade, honeycombs will be ridiculous when you wash. Red tab, no arctuates. Metal chain leading into wallet.

Scuffed black engineer boots; I'd guess Frye. Pretty dope, lighter colored denim jacket.

Looked way too cool to be on SuFu.

  9. skullscomparison.jpg

Anybody's right rear-pocket lower than their left?

Mine is. I thought it was just a slight defect, but the pockets on this picture seem to have the same thing going on. Anybody else? Curious if there's an explanation.

  10. synthi: i take my words back, that's good looking stuff from SDA there. still, the brand has really gone quite unnoticed on the boards for a few months now.

I've been wearing mine daily for 5 months now, and I'll tell you, I found these things insanely stubborn to break in. And rather than boring the masses with a barrage of pictures that don't show off wear, I've decided to wait until I have something truly beautiful to share. Then we'll get some people jumping on the SDA wagon.

  11. For those who missed Kiya's note in the slubs thread....

To those commenting on Sugarcane's fits..

Just so you know.. They're stopping production on all their repro cuts this year.

They're releasing a whole new line, starting with three cuts.

A bootcut.. A Straightleg.. And the Self Edge x Sugarcane slim jeans...

This is surprising news to me. I suppose given the competition and trend towards modern cuts, it was only a matter of time before Sugarcane expanded beyond their repro cuts. But I never would've guessed that they'd abandon them altogether.

I'm eager to see what comes of this. And the SExSC collab, in description at least, has always carried the most appeal to me.

  12. Like with women, variety is key.

If I had one pair of jeans, I agree that I'd stray away from something overly slubby.

But that's not to say that slubs don't have to their place.

So does streaky denim (which I'm convinced is an acquired taste).

Same thing with different cuts. There's a place for skinny cuts, fuller cuts, etc. Variety, my friend. That's the way to go.

  13. I don't know man, all this shit seems lame to me now. 1980s b-boys were products of their environment. B-boys today are just trying to replicate that energy, and that life. Like Elvis impersonators. Shit feels forced.

  14. 5'7" and 135 lbs. Just bought these two pairs of jeans... both size 31. Iron Heart has no soak or wash. The 45rpm Sorahiko Slim is raw and i did a warm machine wash to get somewhat max shrinkage.

If I were you I'd consider sizing down in the future. Your measurements sound like a 29, possibly even a 28. To each his own, though.

  15. eternal 811 or pbj x005?

I think PBJs would be more your speed. More flattering on a thin frame. Really versatile for dressing up and down as well.

Eternals are fucking dope, but because they're roomier than PBJs, they might be a bit more challenging to dress up. Could be done I'm sure.

I've got the 103s someone else mentioned. Another good selection. Start quite slim, but with stretching they definitely don't stay that way. Think Poly800 had a similar experience. Ultimately, they're good for a rugged/casual look -- but I can't pair them with black boots for shit. Maybe that's just me....

  16. I know its normal for the waist to stretch.... but how about the inseam? will it slowly stretch out to its normal state

No. If anything the inseam will shrink a bit more with subsequent washes. If it's too short, I've heard of people soaking their denim and trying to stretch it, but don't expect any success from that method.

The waist stretches because your putting pressure on it through wear/walking/etc. Not so for the inseam.

  17. Really? Have you tried yahoo auctions? Also I think there was a guy on ebay (japanese fantastic denim?) that was selling them a while back.

Yahoo Auction has shown a bunch of Ls and XLs lately.

    History Preservation has a M (38).

But an S (36) remains elusive. From what I here, they run true (if not slightly large), so at 5'8" 145 lbs, I'm hesitant to move up to the M.
