  1. Perth shopping is really limited, however just go and check out King's St and Claremount.

HarbourTown provides some factory outlet shopping which includes Nike and Adidas.

Gucci in King St is also nice. Its one of the cheapest priced Gucci comparing to Hong

Kong and Singapore, not sure if its the same in the whole of Australia.

Varga Girl in King St also sells Tsubi for men, True Religion for Women and other kinds of jeans.

Subiaco might also be a place worth a look at.

Cool, aren't there any cool aussie designers though?

  2. i never expected to see a perth thread here.

to be perfectly honest, there isn't a lot of good shopping in perth. i do the vast majority of my shopping online these days. there are a few decent places here and there though...

highs and lows - beaufort st, mt lawley - trainers (nike, vans, feit, lacoste etc), skate-ish stuff, fred prery, levis....

realm - king st, city - probably my favourite store in perth. fred perry, trovata, clarks, YMC, paul smith, umbro x kim jones

subway dc - king st city, st quentins ave claremont and market st fremantle - nudie, g star, claude maus, masque, pam

father - claremont - tsubi, trovata, zanerobe, father

none of these places will set the world on fire. hope this is of some help though.

Seeing that you're from Perth. I was wondering, what are some stuff that's sold in Australia, Perth specifically that you wouldn't find easily elsewhere?

  3. agentbristow: do you already run a store, or are you planning to set one up? it's unlikely that the companies would be willing to deal with an individual without the B&M storefront. remember that these are not your average true religion "premium denim" companies.

also, i don't mean to be hostile, but how much -do- you know about japanese denim? i've never been very impressed with the QC (nor Actually) staff's knowledge about their denim, and i don't have a problem with that, because they're not a denim store, instead they're more of a general fashion boutique with an interest in jeans. your question about dry cleaning and the self edge store suggests that you should find out a bit more about these jeans that you're looking to bring in...

there's nothing actually wrong with dry cleaning--in fact i've dry cleaned my APCs once, but i don't trust the cleaners to do a good job of it--in theory it cleans your jeans without allowing them to come into contact with water, but we have little idea about the nature of the chemicals that they use on the fabric. if your jeans have been dyed well, washing them should not result in too much loss of indigo, which is what a dry clean aims to prevent.

    again, apologies for the scepticism.

ahh.. here comes some professional advise.

agentbristow: please take TiP's advise into great consideration. cos i am really quite new to this game myself. not trying to carry balls or anthing but if anyone here knows best its most probably TiP.

yeah i second the sun/air method in preventing any undesirable smells.

everyday after i come home i will hang my jeans where there's good ventilation and on weekends where i laze around at home they are in the sun. its worked so far for my 3 months old jeans.

seems like febreeze is a very popular method.

will try it if my jeans start to stink.

best thing, its said to leave your jeans stiff! woo

sweetmofo: I do... I quite respect the guy... Thanks for all your feedback too...

Looks like everyone agrees. Febreeze is the way to go...

  4. 1. nope. don't dry clean. febreeze when your denim stinks, and if u need to wash em, just wash em. i dont see why its so wrong to wash your denim if its dirty.

    2. im not too sure, but maybe you could pm the self edge pple on this forum, and ask them about how they managed to deal with iron heart and sugar cane and etc...

Thanks. But what's wrong with dry cleaning?

agentbristow04 let me thank you in advance for taking steps towards boosting the selvedge denim market in Singapore! :)

if you are really lucky you maybe able to speak with the boss of QC since he deals with skulls, he should have some experience. but thing is they are one of your largest competitors. so i dont think they would want help killing themselves.

i feel your best bet would be like to directly email the companies you are interested in dealing with. i have had some email correspondence with some of their sales personnel (from samurai and other japanese retailers) and they are all really friendly and helpful.

or you could also, like plongin mentioned, ask people from self edge they are friendly SUFUers and are not really direct competitors for your future biz.

Thanks mofo! Haha, I know! I wanted to bring in Skull jeans too... But I'm glad that QC brought Sugar Canes and Skulls too... That's one store I honestly respect because they really know their stuff... I won't really be QC's direct competitor though. Just think of me as trying to add to the "roster" of premium jeans in Singapore... if I make it that is... I think I will start from scratch and build a correspondence with the people that I wanna work with first and see how things go from there.

Erm both of you mentioned self edge people. This is gonna sound way dumb, but who are they?

  5. I love love love this thread. I've been lurking for a long time cuz I've never had time to read the whole thread all 48 pages but I finally did and geez have I missed out on a lot! Anyway I'm all caught up now. And I have 2 questions for all you SG denim heads.

    1. Can/Should I dry clean my dry/raw denims so that I don't need to wash them and Febreezing sounds "inadequate" cleaning?

    2. I want to bring in some denims that doesn't seem to be readily available in Singapore like Ironheart or Samurai. But I have no experience in how to bring stock in. Should I contact the people at the actual stores in Japan or?

    Thanks in advance!

  6. I know I'm superlate but I only stumbled upon this thread thanks to the Denim in Singapore thread which I've started to read from page 1 to catch up... Whew... Anyway I'm really pysched to see the denim crowd in SG is so festive. I wanna join in the meetups!

  7. I just bought my first pair of Japanese Denim when I went to Tokyo last Christmas. My friend Mark wanted a good pair o' jeans so I went down to Hinoya at Ueno and basically the guy there recommended what he said was currently the #1 name in Japan at that time - Oni jeans. I've read other threads on how to basically care for raw denim - soaking, the pros and cons of starching, sanforized etc... but the thing is this pair of Oni is freakin' raw. Supposedly its supposed to shrink up to 2 inches everywhere. If my friend were to wear it without soaking, it's gonna be freakin' loose for him. His waist is 32 inches by the way. So I was wondering, does he soak it for 90 min first like I read in the small questions thread and then does he not wash it for the next 6 months? Cuz another person was saying it's a long drawn process of several washes, where it shrinks slowly... I was wondering if anyone knows enough about Oni jeans to help. I've searched it on Supertalk and Googled it but couldn't find any info....

By the way, the reason I made this as an individual thread and didn't put it in the small questions thread was cuz I couldn't find anything relating to Oni jeans here. Hope you guys can help

  8. There are several youth hostles in Tokyo. They're going to be cheap. Read the reviews and google the shit out of things. Also, book early because these things fill up fast.

You can also use this site to find cheap hotels, many of which you can also read more about on superfuture. "Cheap" is a little too relative to be useful here, but if you're smart about it, I don't see why you can't get by on around 50 bucks a day. Search this site and others for cheap eats options too, as that can save you a bunch. Oh, and avoid drinking! ;)

    Have fun.

Awesome. Thanks for the help man, I was beginnin' to think I wasn't gonna get any from here...

  9. Hi, me and my pal need help with findin' a place to stay cheaply on the 25th and 26th December. I've read about love hotels and internet cafes that provide lodging, but are there any other options? Any help would be totally appreciated. We'll be flyin' in to Narita on the 25th at 1730 and just wanna spend two days in this incredible city doin' as much as we possibly can but we're not sure where we can stay because neither of us can speak or read Japanese very well and we don't even know how to begin lookin' for places to stay. So I really hope to get a few good tips here, such as what websites to go to do the actual bookin' of the places or if some super kind superfuturer wants to put us up for 2 nights that would be awesome. Thanks again!

  10. Thanks for all the replies guys, especially about the concierge but I guess it's kinda my fault that I forgot to mention that we're students and won't be able to afford somethin' like that. I was thinkin' any kind Tokyo guys are willin' to just show us around. We'd probably wouldn't mind buyin' you a meal or whatever, but the main thing here is I just wanna make some friends in Tokyo, maybe become long distance pals or somethin'... lemme know if anyone's interested alright? Thanks for the replies again guys!

By the way, will shops and restaurants be closed on Christmas or Boxing Day or whatever?

  11. Me and my mates from Singapore will be hittin' Tokyo for 3 days after our attachment in Oklahoma. I've read up about the internet cafes and love hotels in the forum so I think our accomodation is about set, but I was just wonderin' any Tokyo-supertalkers willin' to show us around the places, how to avoid the tourist traps, where to get good nosh for cheap. I'm dying to have sushi and sashimi! Would be really cool to meet a supetalker too! I love Japan and this is our first trip there. Oh, we're gonna arrive in Tokyo on Christmas. Is that a big deal there? Like festivals and shit? I'm just super excited about the trip. Hope to make friends there!
