I don't like those at all. ^^^
Trying to hook up with a proxy to scoop some general research on Y!jp, but having little luck at the moment. Got emails to Jake, 2000db's rec "proxMe", and Juno. Hopefully someone comes through..
Also thinking seriously about the Mountain Research Anorak from Garbstore
http://garbstore.com/product/?productID=1053&imgVarID=1089
I love that it's cotton, and that it has leather detailing. I appreciate the functionality of newer tech fabric innovations, but sometimes I get bored of the whole "Goretex 4.0" thing ya know?
Just gotta get some sizing from them. Then again, the Naval research stuff is supposed to come in any day now, so I might hold off for a week or so.
Thanks to Seenmy and Gem art (I think?) for the link on this.
Do you know what size you're looking for Wolves? I've got the Anorak in medium, if you want some fit pics let me know and I'll bring it out of its summer retirement...

The information I've been given about Mountain Research suggests that has a practical use. Apparently (this is second hand info) the Research designers have a cabin in the Mountains where they test out the product. I see a lot of Fjall Raven in the U.K. and the Mountain Research product is at least as practical as that.
I spent a month walking and camping in Patagonia last year and completely support doctorgnars point about a lot of outdoor stuff being overdesigned. A ten year old Karrimor jacket, some polycotton trousers and a pair of Zamberlan walking boots suited me fine. It was that trip that got me looking for product which referenced walking/mountaineering gear in its design.
Wolves I think that www.garbstore.com still has some Mountain Research stuff in stock, they'll ship everywhere except for Japan.

Naval research is okay. Mountain research and general research were the best.
It's the store by Meguro-river in nakameguro. It's right next to cow books.
I like their down vests and mountain parkas but their pricing is out of control...
I think the hightech parkas are close to 100,000 yen. Down vests are 50,000 to 70,000 yen ish.
It goes to show how fucked the British market is for JP product but compared to other imported bits I thought the stuff I've seen at Garbstore was well priced...

It's a lovely shop and I covet a pair of the Maine-made boat shoes. Extra bonus points for making everything in the U.K. where possible.

From what I've heard from fashion types and hunter/stalkers alike, they are well worth the money and time. That said, I gotta keep my eye on the bay, cause 2 or 3 months is a long-ass wait in my book.
I'm papered up at the moment though, and with tax return checks on the way, who knows.
I been looking at alot of japanese outerwear along the lines of Waste(twice), White mountaineering, and Unused, but as always, it's difficult to find my size. I've all but given up on the footwear by those brands, which is unfortuate, cause it's pretty uniformly dope.
Those Paul SmithxSierra Designs look suprisingly nice though, I'll look into that.
Have you tried any Mountain Research stuff Wolves? I've got a few bits which I'm really happy with and the sizing's not too much of a problem (I take a medium and I'm 5' 10", 70kgs)

Edit: Might help if I'd actually read the boots bit in the title, sorry.
A bit Sierra Designs and lovely. Fergadelic for Paul Smith Japan.

I've got one it consists of two different point threads (one for the seams and one for the pocket stitching etc.) and some special denim for crotch repairs. Check your PM's for the email address I used

They had their opening party last night, very impressive party for a very impressive shop. That Mountain Research product is wonderful along with Pointer, Terrem, Gauntlet, Steven Alan and Garbstore. The detailing on the Garbstore stuff is stunning, tri-hole buttons, tallon zips, all Japanese fabrics.

where are baracuta g9s made?
edit: It seems not all of them are made in england, which is why i ask.
Also, its interesting that blue in green is said to stock them on the baracuta site.
There are two different types of the G9; one's made in England and the other is made in Romania. Oddly enough there's little difference in price between the two (about £15)
On another note that G Star jacket is hideous, crazy money too.

The cheap, good deal of the day goes to my new Trek 5200 frame. +rape for anyone who tells me what year it is.
If the fork is 1" threaded then it's 1999 if it's 1" threadless then 2000. They've been making OCLV frames since 1992.
If it's a 1999 then that's a replica of the frame that Armstrong won his first Tour de France on, a nice frame to have though a bit flat compared to a decent steel frame.

First time in ages I've not been listening to Wefunkradio, makes a nice change.

Thread back from the dead;
I don't ride Vert, too scary for me which makes this even more daft:
He's been trying them for years, I think this is the first one to the pedals.
Whilst I'm at it some other links:

The Garbstore selvedge STF: http://garbstore.com/product/?productID=1037&imgVarID=1069
I've also seen some Gauntlet (Made by Full Count) Chinos in pre and post war colours, the price is about the same, they're also shrink to fit.

still have this question, still looking for an answer. any help will be greatly appreciated
I'm sure the answer's already mentioned somewhere but to save you the trouble of searching I have a pair of black Dukes and blue 5010 6x6's both in 32W. The Dukes have a longer rise and a straighter fit in the leg than the Skulls. In the waist the Imperials are bigger than the Skulls stretching more with wear and contracting less when washed, for this reason I wouldn't size down.

So how do you stop w/o brakes on a bmx?
Foot in tyre in or kick-out skid on street, anti pump on ramps or dirt jumps.

Riding without brakes has become massively popular in the last three or four years to the extent that starter completes are now offered in brakeless versions. (madness in my opinion, kids need to learn to ride in a straight line before the brakes come off)
There are a couple of reasons for this increased popularity; firstly there's been an explosion in brakeless street riding heralded by the first Animal video (I know there were plenty of people doing it before...) Secondly, basic maintenence is a lot simpler if you remove the only part of a bike that requires some finesse to set up.
If anyone is near Sheffield this weekend the Tomorrow We Work premier is on:
For those not aquainted with Voices (Joe Cox's first video and in my mind the seminal BMX video of the last few years) here you go:

I havent ridden since i was 14...got a few questions 7 years later...
Terrible One still around? What about FBM? Who is the big new star?
Has street riding progressed at all? Seemed like when i stopped 99-2000, it was starting to get a little stale...in that any much more progression and people were gonna start killing themselves. And its not like skateboarding, you can't exctly tailwhip into or out of a rail.
Who wants to sum up the past 7 years or so ?
Yep T1 still going strong though Taj leaving to ride for Giant was a bit of a surprise. I guess he's in his mid-thirties now and wants to make some money before he can't push it any more.
FBM are still going though I get the impression that they're finding life quite difficult financially as so many new companies have popped up in the last few years and a lot of large companies (Giant) are getting involved again. The average weight of a bike has dropped from the mid-thirty pound mark to mid-twenties and they're just as strong.
There's been an almost complete separation between sponsored comp jockeys and riders who make a living out of filming video sections and shooting photos. If you fall into the first camp then you need to get acquainted with your second home the foam pit quite quickly.
Ruben A's still amazing and the best editor working in BMX at the moment is English:
http://www.defgrip.net/v3/videos/tomorrow_we_work_defgrip/twwdefgripfull.mov
People (well Dave Osato) have tried whipping onto rails and they've gone up them to whip out (this forum's Chad M if memory serves being one of them) Van Homan's section on Criminal Mischief has still not been bettered and someone is going to die riding dirt if they don't calm down on the double flip circus tricks.

Amazing frames, U.S. made. Good bars too.
One of Chad M's sponsors and makers of well engineered if slightly expensive parts.

It's Bat for Lashes; 'What's a girl to do'. She should have won the Mercury Music Prize last year but for some inexplicable reason they gave it to the Klaxons.

178cm (5' 10'' and a bit...) I take a large in Visvim jackets if that helps, all the bits of MR I own are medium.
