  1. i picked up a pair of 936DEM (slim fit versions) and i acually think they fit better than my 501's (i've only tried them on twice).

they are indeed tough. my only complaint is that i wish they were a darker indigo.

this western shop near me has em on sale for 27$

i really wanted to see the gold editions in real life. i wonder if they are rigid, they look very dark, but i also see a crease in the front.

oh yeah, if i had to rate the quality of denim, the premiums are at the bottom. but still nicer compared to the STF 501 (which fit bad on me for some reason?)

the STF 501s are cut differently from your premiums which could be why they don't fit you as well. if you think about the kind of demographic the STF 501s have to cover (racial, economic and cultural), it's insane.

btw, where do you train mma? i train in NYC at www.roninathletics.com.

oh yhea, i was comparing denim from the premiums vs the STFs, but i was comparing fit b/t STFs vs LVC 1947 501xx.

i just train with my friends at our university gym, but i plan on training at AMC kickboxing (http://www.pankration.com/) this summer.

i grew up in seattle and knew some people who trained at amc a long time ago.

definitely train there, it's the best place in washington.

why don't you buy the sugarcane 47's next time? even with shipping, if you order from japan, they should be cheaper than the your LVC's.

i just ordered mine, should be here in a week or so...

really... is it basically the same cut? any pictures online?

i think my next pair of denim will have to be heavier wieght and lower rise. possibly stright leg.

how much did hte sugarcanes run you? (i'm preparing to kick myself after i hear the answer).

what difference do you notice b/t lvc 47 and the sugarcane 47's? i can only think of the selvedge and pocket pattern....

  3. so i soaked my '47s for a couple of hours. warmish water.

    presoak:

    waist: 16.5in

    front rise: 12in

    rear rise:16

    outseam:43.5

    inseam:32.5in

    leg opening: 8 6/16in

    after soak:

    waist: 15.25in

    front rise: 11in

    rear rise: 14in

    outseam: 41in

    inseam: 29.5in

    leg opening: 8in

so basically, the shrank a little over in inch in the waist, and 2 inches in length. now they fit me a little better in the waist.

I also starched them while wet, after drying, i threw on two more coats of starch. when that dried, the jeans could stand on thier own!!, then i threw them on, walked around then threw on one more coat.

now they are being broken in :)

i think they are just the tiny bit lighter now, my tub has some indigo on it, and my hands were blue-ish from handling the wet denim.

how odd. they're all levis. you don't own any other denim?

--- Original message by sarno on Apr 10, 2006 01:01 PM

well, i knew i wanted my first pair to be levis, just because thats where it all started right?

but i kept seeing others that i wanted, i didn' really plan for this.

eventually, i want a really funky pair, with the little crazy details, like slanted belt loops, colored buttons, slightly more flashy butt pocket designs, lower rise blah blah blah. but i figured i couldn't go wrong with levis.

hahahaha this is so homo but i dont care about the jeans

i would like to know what you are doing the gaining and cutting for, wrestling? Weight training in general? Hibernating?

Im stuck at a 135-140 athletic build and i would love to bump it up at least 10 or so pounds, i was wondering if you just got tired of being skinny?

i like to train in mixed martial arts for fun.

for bulking i was "bulking dirty" which means that i ate everything and anything. for about a year i was getting about 6000+ calories a day, plus heavy olympic lifting.

for cutting, just just slowly reduced calories, now i'm at about 2000 a day, and just increased cardio. still lifting hard.

funnything is that about over a year ago i got into some crap at a club and almost ended up being beat up (not my fault cause i'm a nice guy) and realized i didn't know how to really defend my self. i was athletic in highschool, but since getting old (now i'm 24) i got lazy. so now i'm in the best shape i've ever been in my life, and know a thing or two incase i'm put in another bad situation.

but yeah, being skinny is cool for getting that certain skinny bum look, but id rather be a little built.

    welcome to the future, lilbucu.

    you hatched nearly full grown.

very useful taxonomy of levi denim lines.

make sure you shrink those LVC 47s before you ::rock them::

so i should soak em first? why do you recomend that i do? so that my wear marks won't shift when i do decide to wash them? thats something that crossed my mind...
  8. thats good, because i think they are still a little big and long for me, that sounds perfect! and i have more wieght to loose. :)

i have one jean leg cuffed in teh mirror picture for refference.

i'm still getting use to a high rise non boot/flared jean :)

so far i'm liking it. for future reference, what are some good denim to look into for something like my 1947 but lower rise?

  9. i'm new, lurked for a long while. got into dry denim at the start of the year. i was 5'6 160 (was my first bulking cycle which lasted for about a year, came up from 130lbs). first pair was levi premium skinner rigids that i wore for over 4 months. i was fatty mc fat fat at the time and rocked 36(!!!)x32. my thighs didn't even fit in the 32x32 size. unlike alot of people i see, i don't have carrot legs, kinda sucks cause i can't pull off certain looks, but at least i can squat over 300 lbs. ;)

i thought these jeans were pretty cool. i think they are left hand twill? or what ever the opposite from normal is. made in the USA. denim was tightly wound. pretty quality construction. lots of double stiching.

    a3bf778e.jpg

    681b111b.jpg

about a can of niagra starch used.

i then lost ten pounds in a month from starting my first cutting cycle and now i'm at 150lbs. these jeans are now too bigg for me in the crotch area. feels sad that i'm retiring them. i don't think i'll even wash them, i'll just save them for next winter when i bulk up agian.

so i picked up a pair of capital E skinners in 32x32. they seem to be a one wash, and fit me well.

    be4fa080.jpg

notice the two tone thread detail that they used almost everywhere, which i think is pretty cool. made in turkey (!) they also come in odd numbered sizes.

    DSC06699.jpg

they have a very dark brown leather patch in the back. red tag just says "E" . the trademark levi back pockets design stiching also feature a wavery style to them, gives a kinda hand made purposeful imperfect look (As well as the two tone threads). these are the most "funky" or non traditional of the 3. the denim looks like it was made with ring ring cotton(?) and is very loosely wound, very solf. seems very slubby and has a great dark shimmery effect. i planned to start wearing these once it gets warmer up here in seattle. i havn't worn them yet, but they have been mad starched.

then just this week end, i came across these LVC 1947 501xx and started rocking them right away. 32x32 usa made.

looks like these are dead stock from 2003

    30edeb6e.jpg

tags, notice the selvedge goes all the way up

    6056c160.jpg

big E red tag with two tone butt pocket stiching, nice!

    7d2b5d00.jpg

selvedge, cotton feels pretty heavy, tightly wound, kinda slubby?

    rivits

so here are some comparison pics: from top to bottem: 4monthold premiums skinners, LVC 47 501xx, cap E skinners

    da98b1fa.jpg

indigo color. premiums just seem dark blue, cap E are very dark and very shimmery, LVC is kinda purple-ish SWEET! all can look black in certain lighting. the skinner flare is just too much for me now. maybe better after they shrink?
