  1. if you're going to hong kong for a while, it'll be worth your while to go to your local chinese consulate to get a multiple entry visa to china. it costs more to get one while in HK. with a multiple entry visa, you can take the train up north to shenzen. there's a huge shopping mall right at the china train station called lo wu commercial city that has just about everything at ridiculously low prices. lotta fake shit too.

  2. well you could start in central. do some shoppin at the BWS store and IFC2 mall.. then take the ferry over to tsim sha tsui. its a good cheap way to look at the city. shop around TST where ocean terminal, silvercord, and various electronics store is. make sure you catch the 8pm light show on the promenade.

maybe use the next day to wander around causeway bay to check out the lil boutiques there.

  3. i think for japanese brands, they're probably cheaper in japan because they don't have to import. but of course if you see a deal, you can always take it. stuff like red monkey is cheaper here. there's a lot of stores here that carry it. there's bape stuff everywhere here too, but be careful for knock offs. if you go to the BWS in central you'll be disappointed because the stock has been gutted clean from crazy shoppers. only a few crappy t-shirts left and odd sized shoes. check out the D-Mop store in silvercord in tsim sha tsui (across ocean terminal). they have a ton of Y-3 stuff there. red monkey is carried in a store called 1001 and also at a department store called lane crawford. i saw some maharishi stuff in a store in central. i forgot the name but it was near lan kwai fung. but i really think you'd probbaly find more maharishi stuff in the UK.

i think electronics in hong kong are much much cheaper. i bought a sony camera in HK 2 years ago and it was several dollars more in tokyo. beware of local electronics shops because they're very good at jerking people. try a large reputable chain electronics store like fortress.

  4. i'd avoid a broker as much as possible unless you like payin part of your rent to them. they don't do anything besides show you the apartment and hand you the keys. what's wrong with craigslist? i've used it twice to find some nice places in BK.

  5. there's a brand new shopping mall on a street parallel to nathan road. the mall is called langham center or something. there are MTR signs that can direct you there. the mall is HUGE. i think its modeled after one in japan. you have to go up a series of very LONG escalators. once you reach the top, you walk down the mall which is built in a downward spiral design. the G.O.D. store is there.

i got my shirt at the G.O.D. location in harbor city in TST.

  6. a favorite local store of mine is goods of desire or (G.O.D.). they have a store in soho of central, langham plaza in mongkok, and harbor city in TST. they have some interesting asian stuff. i got a shirt there that said "DelayNoMore" which sounds similar to the cantonese saying "motherfucker" lol.

hit up the markets in mongkok and temple street in jordan. lots of cheap interesting shit there too.

  7. ^ yo i'm in HK right now. give me the scooop. hehe

    what are you lookin for?

theres one mall in mongkok called in's square that has nothing but floors upon floors of dunks, bapes, and other limited edition kicks.

other malls to check are silvercord (in TST, has d-mop, APC, beam)... festival walk (in kowloon tong), IFC2 (central, flagship evisu store there), times square (causeway bay)

actually causeway bay has this whole area called fashion island where there's nothing but crazy ass boutiques and local stores.

there's also granville road in tsim sha tsui. the whole street of cool shit as well. take5 has a huge selection of evisu, samurai, and sugar cane jeans. there's also a nike sb store there.

As far local street brands.. you can find a lot in causeway bay. it actually seems to be a hotbed for local designers there. check the area behind sogo. stores like LOLL, Dusty (www.dusty.com.hk), and 8five2 shop got some cool ass shit. my personal fav is 8five2 shop, www.8five2.com. they're a skate store but they have their own line of HK inspired shit.

  8. 1001 probably has the biggest selection of RMC's. They have 3 locations that I know of. One in Central near Lan Kwai Fung. One in Tsim Shat Tsui on Chatnam. And one in TST East/Jordan on Austin Avenue. The biggest store is the one on Austin Avenue. That's their flagship location.

ALSO HK's fanciest retailer Lane Crawford also carries RMC. The LC's with the most premium denim selections are the Pacific Place (Admiralty), IFC2 Mall (Central), and Ocean Terminal (TST) locations.

  9. I don't know what threads you perused, but I think they're misinformed. Hong Kong is a shopper's paradise. There is no sales tax and you can find many factory outlets. Tell me what brands you're looking for and I'll shoot you in the right direction. Compared to Tokyo... NO... everything in Tokyo is RIDICULOUSLY expensive. Even the big mac meal I had there was circa $7.

Now as for underground hip-hop at clubs.. you're shit out of luck. the clubs here are garbage and they play nothin but Black Eyed Peas and shit. The closest thing to it would probably check out Pi lounge in Lan Kwai Fung on Thursday nights. DJ Kulu hold Vltralounge where it's a variety of downtempo, jazz, and local hiphop freestyling. Just some cool shit.

  10. I don't think there's anything wrong with your 5EPs. but let me get this straight...

You work in an ER, you wash your hands to sanitize them but yet you rub them dry on your grubby jeans that haven't been washed in god knows when...

    Please don't operate on me.

  11. well i find the word 'fake' to be debatable when clothing items like this most likely come from the same factories the 'real' stuff comes from. it's no big secret that many large clothing retailers have moved production overseas in order to lower production costs. in hong kong and china, you can often find goods in shops that are priced slightly above production cost. i've seen diesel, seven, true religion jeans, etc all go for about $30-35 USD in HK and they're about $10 cheaper in china. when i was in shenzen, i also bought a pair of the studded g-star jeans for $15 USD and i'm a 110% that they are real. there's stores upon stores in HK and china with stock ranging from rock & republic to levis itself. although i'm not entirely sure where their stock comes from... whether they're excess product made for extra side profit or simply factory rejects. i think it's a little bit of both. most bootlegs you see like nike shoes are simply excess product (made with materials of lesser quality in order to maximize profit)... hence bootlegs being of a lesser quality.

when it comes to these levis in particular, i'm pretty sure they originated from the same factories as 'real' levis jeans are made. sure the belt loops are off and the coin pocket is a bit high, but i'm not a complete newb with denim and the quality is all there from the cone denim material to the double redline selvedge. so for $25, i'm not complaining. i love my mutant frankenstein jeans icon_smile_big.gif.

  12. Hi I'm new here. I've pretty much been a lurker on this board and I've been very much impressed by the knowledge you denim gods have. I was wondering if you could help me identify this pair of 501s I bought. I am currently in HK right now and I found these over the border in Shenzen, China. The paper labels identify them as some 1955 501s, but the inside label sewn into the jeans is conflicting by saying 66501. There are no other labels sewn on the inside. Most of the accompanying paper tags as well as the insides are in Japanese. The back label on the jeans is that paper leather material. Are they a factory reject ? There are no visible flaws from what I can see. When I first bought them, they were rigid. They fit comfortably and the denim feels great. Do they even make Levi's in China? What kind of machines od they have in China? I've already started wearing them for the past 2 weeks, so pardon all the wrinkles.

I'm very much aware that they could be some outright bootlegs, but since I paid about $25 USD for them and they fit great; I'm really not mad.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks! icon_smile_big.gif
