  1. hi. i dont think there will be ever a time wherein i will have my jeans done subcontract. or mass produced for that matter. since its really custom fit, it will be very difficult to find a subcon who is willing to follow all my clients request by heart. hehehe. mass producing it is out of the question. but i might have a new diffusion line that will cater to a base price soon. custom fitting is the way to go here in manila

would you ever have someone learn from you and have that person produce under your label? that way, you could have viktor certified jean tailors in other countries....

  2. yeah, i have a pair of lot 53 selvage that i got back around 2000? i think they were part of the promotional tie-in with the show "Roswell".

they are really baggy and the wash looks like crap. unfortunately, i was drunk when i bought them, which is when i do most of my regrettable things.

  3. It's worth remembering that indigo, whether natural or synthetic is extremely colourfast - to light. If you look at old tapestries, carpets and costumes, indigo is often the colour that has outlasted all others. The actual colour doesn't fade so much as rub off.

So the challenge was to produce a dark blue dye that didn't rub off.

Indanthrene blue was introduced at the turn of the 20th century and shared indigo's talent at having very good light fastness and the ability to dye cotton well. The difference was that Indanthrene didn't suffer the easy crocking that is a 'fault' of indigo.

There's speculation that dyes like Indanthrene would have killed off indigo if it wasn't for the popularity of jeans in fashion.

hey, good to see you, ringring. i see that indanthrene blue is also used as a food coloring and a pigment for paints and enamels as well as a fabric dye.

i guess indigo for bath towels wouldn't work too well, huh? you'd end up looking like a smurf after every shower!

  4. They have a fitting room there-----but then, they DO have their shair of prewashed.

Back in the day, before prewashed jeans were sold, they would have washed jeans for fitting purposes. That is precisely what I would do, if I had a store.

yeah, but do you know how expensive that would be? just for jeans that you can't even sell? on cheap levi's it's not a problem. but for $200-500 jeans? for every size?

maybe, the manufacturers could make a pair out of heavyweight muslin in each size without any of the details. that way, it would be cheap but would also give a good idea about size....

and yes, the guys at BIG are very helpful about telling the customers about the jeans...

  5. Isn't trying on an unsanforized denim sort of moot?

EDIT: I just added you to my BUDDY LIST----I guess that means we have "privileges"?!!!

hmmm. i guess you got a point there. these denim stores should have a washed pair in each size just for trying on.

so, i'm on your buddy list, huh? great, what kind of privileges do i get???

  6. hey, wait a week or two, man. BIG will be getting the Pure Blues in SOOON! You might like them more than the 45 RPMs. If you do, you'll probably be able to buy another pair of something else, maybe the sorahikos (if you don't have them already).

    buuut, if you can't wait:

    1) APC New Standards - for obvious reasons, great all-purpose jean.

    2) 45 RPM Jomon - Just to have them.

    3) Warehouse Duckdigger - Check them out at BIG, you might be suprised at how nice they fit and how nice the embroidery is. My favorite duckdigger is the 1900, but many people like the 1930. The duckdigger is a nice alternative to euro-fits and 501 repros. Why not have more variety?

    4) Samurai is nice, but also check out the ONIs. The denim is SUPERB.

  7. Oh yeah, I forgot-----they said they were coming in mid-July.

    FOCK!!!

DDML, why don't you go to BIG and try on their S5000VXs to make sure you get the correct size for the BKs? (unless you've done this already)

BTW, one of the owners asked me if I knew a guy named denimdestroyedmylife from the forums, i said, "yeah, that's my buddy!"

  8. i just saw samples of some new distressed warehouse dubble works jeans. they are not for sale yet, but will be soon. i don't even think they are on their website.

one was a repro of a redline 501, one was 505 style with zipper (but with selvage).

i gotta tell you, they were so frickin' realistic it was scary. everything from the faded arcuate, to the color of the denim to the feel of the denim. they were exactly like a 20-30 year old pair of levis. old redlines have a distinct feel, very soft and buttery. there is also a distinct look that only aged denim can have, kind of splotchy and muted. these warehouse jeans captured the effect perfectly.

the wear marks were super realistic and when you wear the jeans, everything creases beautifully.

    i was so impressed!

i know that even if i tried, i couldn't get a pair of jeans to wear that beautifully. makes me really want to get a pair like that--something that is already in a perfected state. of course, i will still get dry denim but damn, those warehouse jeans were so nice.
