  1. dude, they look fine to me. Great, in fact. Love the fading around the knees (at the front and the back!). Starch em if you want. But just keep wearing them. They'll fade even more over the next coupla months. Keep rockin that shit!

  2. Selvedge is getting bigger here in Melbourne Australia. Mostly the huge nudie trend, see a few dudes rocking RRDS and SSDS. But still don't see too much of the LVC, and it's mainly asian dudes who are rocking evisu. Yet to see a pair of SugarCanes, and it's pretty rare to see any other obscure japanese repro brand...

  3. I'ma go with Nudie SSDS, but with a slightly tapered leg (don't like the way the true straight cut falls). The denim that Nudie used for these is amazing, breaks in beautifully. Although now that Nudie are so hyped up (at least around here in Melbourne) I'm not so keen on getting another pair.

So maybe some Imperial Dukes (however I've never tried them on coz we can't get them here yet! Dammit!).

  4. yeah man, just taper it from the inseam. That way the outseam stays straight and you don't lose the selvedge.

But just make it really really clear to the tailor that you don't want them to touch the outseam/selvedge. I've heard horror stories...

  5. dude,

if you're interested I've got some deadstock orange tab 505s in 29/30 (still have tags attached). I got them on ebay a month ago and tried them on once but they're too tight in the waist...I'm a 29 in nudies, evisu...but these will only fit if I wear them real high...so if you wanted to wear them low, you'd need to be a 28 or so.

    They're quality denim though.

anyway, email me if you're interested. not asking much at all (however I live in Australia, so postage will need to be factored in).

  6. Hey guys,

I've got the 505A version of these jeans, which I bought about 4 months ago in Tokyo. When they were new, they were really stiff and quite shiny. They're a bit softer now, and the sheen is a little softer.

I've been wearing them pretty solidly for maybe two months. There's some fading happening around the crease, but they're definitely not wearing in as fast as a pair of nudie dry selvedge would.

Great jeans. Really nice cut (not as high-waisted as a regular 505), and really nice back pockets. They're just a funky take on the regular levis thing. And they were only 11,000 yen (about $90USD maybe?). Great stuff, I'm looking forward to when they're more faded!

  7. I've been going through a lot of J Dilla's stuff since he died. He made such great beats.

Donuts (which is definitely worth checkin out btw.)

Fantastic II by Slum Village (it's a shame that T3 and Baatin are such wack rappers)

Like Water for Chocolate by Common

Voodoo by D'Angelo (my favourite record of all time, you gotta check it out)

    Mama's Gun by Erykah Badu

Also, have 'all heard Hard Groove and Strength by Roy Hargrove? Funky shit!

  8. yo backinthetrees, I'm from Melbourne in Aus. Yeah it's a great place; I mean it's got its flaws for sure, but we've got a lot of space, some pretty cool people, and a pretty decent system of government.

Dude you could do a lot of good as a lawyer. In Australia at least, you tend to find that lawyers have a pretty powerful position in society. They're the people who set the direction that society is heading in (not exclusively, but they're pretty important in that process). And so it's important to have lawyers with a strong social conscience, which you've got. You should go for it.

It's interesting what you said about young and old people's prejudices etc. It's funny how conservative young people can be (I think I still am a lot of the time) - I guess it's mainly through lack of life experience...young people still go very much on appearances (and I guess that's why we're all here really - the importance of fashion!). Everything's got it's plusses and minuses.

I agree with what has been said above. I think it's great that we can have a discussion about social systems etc in this forum, and I don't think there's a problem with it unless it degenerates into discriminatory mudflinging (racism, sexism, etc) - which it won't.

Peace y'all, keep up the stimulating conversation.

  9. levis is seriously low-quality here in Australia. Bad washes, bad denim. It's really weird. I though levis was all about quality...we don't get the premium lines, and LVC costs like $350AUD. Not cool!

  10. FTB, great thread. I really like where this has gone.

Also thanks to backinthetrees re the whole living in singapore thing - it's really interesting to hear what it's like over there regarding freedom of expression and democratic rights etc (I'm a law student...). I'm from Australia, and the situation is far from being that extreme, but your posts remind me that there's definitely a potential for that limiting of freedoms here as well. Heavy stuff.

On the original question raised by FTB: I feel like I'm in this twilight zone with my jeans at the moment. I've just retired an old pair of RRDS that I rocked all the time for about a year, and I've got some new raws to break in (some Levis 505As and some Evisu 2000s, both from Tokyo), but I'm not really feeling either of them. I mean, I like them both, but not to the extent that I love them and could rock them every day without questioning it.

On the broader topic of being a slave to fashion VS getting back to basics: Yeah, I think maybe it's time for me to get a whole bunch of really well-fitting white Tees (so damn hard to find!!), and a pair of raws that I can rock every day. There's so much pressure to be rocking crazy fashionable stuff and to look "cool" everyday (especially at law school), it kinda drives me nuts sometimes. So I'm thinking it's time to get back to basics....

Anyways, sorry for the vent. Once again, great thread!
