  1. I'm planning to head to Detroit sometime later this year. I am really into the new/nu-soul and hip-hop music that's coming out of Detroit. So I want to go see some gigs. I have two questions:

    1. What are the venues I should check out? I wanna see people like Dwele, Amp Fiddler and PPP.

    2. I am a skinny white guy, wearing typical superfuture clothes - slim jeans and striped tops. Is it safe for me to go to these gigs? I'm from Australia, so I don't really have much of a clue about racial tensions etc in Detroit/North America....

Thanks in advance for your help.

  2. This sucks. The Japanese repro companies have been putting out some fucking great stuff, and not just in terms of the cut and denim quality. The details - the red tab, their takes on the arcuate, etc - are just as important. Many ( esp on this board) would say that these small details make the jeans.

But I don't think there's any one right answer here. Levi's most certainly have a right to protect their trademarks. They have an incredibly well-defined brand identity. These details are the things that they trade on.

But at the same time, you've got to look at the INTENT of the Japanese companies in employing these trade-marked details. I follow on from the arguments of cult and others here: the main intention of the repro companies isn't to steal business from Levi's. They're revering Levi's and the iconography (wanky term, sorry) of 20th C American fashion. There designs are not direct rips - they are modern/humourous takes on classic levi's detailing.

It sucks that Levi's has all the power here. The repro companies are small businesses (except maybe sugarcane/toyo, but question whether toyo will get behind them here). On top of this - I'm making a big generalisation here, but I think it holds some relevance - Japanese culture tends to be non-confrontational. Levi's is just gonna push these dudes around. It's fucked because we might be losing some great jeans. And as someone said above, if this is fought in court and Levi's win, it may set a legal precedent which is restrictive. This might affect 'repro'/etc companies in other areas. Not just jeans. Fuck.

I send my support to both Selfedge and BIG. You guys haven't even been open a year and already you've been hit with this shit. Best of luck.

And if possible, can anyone post up links to any court documents etc? Or PM me. I'm interested in following this.

  3. I've been seeing a few 80s metal dudes around town recently (Melbourne, Australia). I think it's fucking awesome. Long hair, sweat-bands, black band t-shirt cut off at the sleeves, tiiiiight black levis and huge white sneakers (EG reebok pumps). Those dudes fuckin rule. Makes me wanna ROCK *carlfist*

  4. Hey Mr CO - did your skulls shrink much when you soaked them? Do you think they shrunk back to original size, or smaller than the original size? And have they stretched back OK?

I am just debating whether to get the non-wash or one-wash... Thanks for your help man :)

  5. I have ordered from sandbox, and in my experience their selection is good, but their ordering system and customer service is terrible. Took them nearly 4 weeks before they shipped out my order.

Also, their packaging was pretty average. Carboard box with no bubble wrap or protection for/between the records.

  6. San - welcome! The fit of your nudies is great, bummer about the crotch damage. It does happen to a lot of jeans depending on the wear and the wearer, but seems to happen to nudies more often than other brands. Dunno what that says about the jeans/their wearers though...

Drytherain - I think your calis should be OK for a wash at this stage if that is the kind of wear/fading you want on them. But don't just ditch them after the wash, you need to keep wearing them!

  7. Yo dickdanger I think it's about time someone called you out - the majority of your posts seem to be sarcastic replies that don't really add anything to the wealth of information on this board.

I'll agree that there's nothing wrong with a bit of humour (although this is subjective), but why don't you try to add something informative to discussion every now and again, since information is the main purpose of the Future?* I don't really want an e-beef, just sayin.

    * I realise that this thread is not the best place to post this, since it's a bit of a joke anyway, but I'm talking more generally.
