  1. yo kids, sorry bout the confusion. i'm not trying to relate straightedge as 'neo nazis'. i was trying to draw attention to ignorance about issues such as prohibition and making mistakes that were already made.

my point was along the lines of that proverb. i can't remember the line exactly, but it was along the lines of:

those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it

in my mind, straight edge can be a beautiful thing. so can faith. yes they are taken in extreme contexts in some ways and the worst of which is a closed mind that ignores all context of history. prohibition for example cost us lots of things. instead of lowering alcohol consumption, it actually raised it. people went to extremes to obtain the stuff, even boarding boats to canada to grab whiskey and ot sell it on the black market. in some ways this can be related to our drug war, which is a siphon for US dollars and the number of drug users in our nation is constantly increasing (as opposed to decreasing, which our government promises us when we spend more money into this war)

i'm sorry this has gotten off the topic of 'fashion'. i just got a bit incensed by the whole relating fashion to neo-nazi'ism and American history X and could only think of this straight edge shirt which incensed me. dont' get me wrong, i follow all the tenets of having a straight edge lifestyle-- the only difference is i don't call myself straight edge. primarily because of the ugly thing it can devolve into when people become exclusive and closed minded in thought just becaues of a label.

once again i'm sorry to bring up a whole moral debate on a fashion forum, i promise i'll drop the issue now. i just hope i made my points clear. i'm not trying to accuse street fashion, or straight edge, or Ralph Lauren of being nazis in any way, i'm just saying some people need to educate themselves and realize the values of history and human lives.

    i'm done i promise...

  2. though not necessarily high fashion, when you talked about 'nazi' influences and American History X (amazing movie)

the fact that someone will wear something like that i think is pretty ridiculous. a foot stomping someone's face? kill your local drug dealer? the intentions are ridiculously one track of mind-- that America's drug problem can be dealt with through violence? there are other shirts talking about bringing back prohibition. the fact that someone wholeheartedly believes in something (or against something) and suggests something that was historically more problematic than our current situation... reminds me of nazis in a lot of ways.

A Tribe Called Quest - Midnight Marauders

just the whole album really. It's such a solid & classic hip hop album.

I think a supermusic forum would be kinda cool, just to get to discuss music a little more.

I consider music to be a part of my style, so I guess it would fit.

mmm-- listening to a lot of the posi youth crew revival from the past few years. namely bane and with honor. stylewise i guess hardcore has an effect on the shirts/hoodie i've been wearing? in some ways i don't like coming off straight up as one kind of kid... who listens to one kinda music. i don't want to judge people solely from one thing i see about them, and i don't want the same of me.

noticed the ratatat sample in your profile a while back. nice.

my friends are trying to book'em for a tour, but i've also heard bad things about their live show. makes me sad since that album has gotten me through lots of studio days.

    currently listening to:

    bane-my therapy

  4. honestly, these kinds of messages feel like copouts to me. Positive or negative reaction, the fact that you bothered posting is good enough for me. in a way they don't account for what i've disliked and don't push me towards seeing your point in any valid way. in fact i wholeheartedly disagree-- show me where media is more protected in other forms and where it isn't in tshirts and maybe i will agree. there are no copyright laws that have loopholes for reproducing art on tshirts.

if anything, i think fashion is more in danger and 'unprotected' than art. there are so many knock off brands (Urban Outfitters creates knockoff brands and sells them for cheap and capitalizes on the profits) i mean check out any flea market or asian market. there's plenty of knockoffs that use labels from brand names and attach them to replicas. or near perfect replicas with a few stitchings out of place on the brand name. i have a lacoste knockoff that passes except the crocodile logo faces the opposite direction of lacoste.

once again, if you have proof, show me. i'm 99% sure and though i'm pretty confident i'm right, i don't want to be a pompous asshole who is only saying "you're wrong."

  5. ugh

personally i don't like the shirt, one for its aesthetics and two for its message. i feel that art itself is transient. we're post modern people. what the fuck does that mean? in my mind-- nothing. that anything and everything (maybe in that same right 'nothing') is art. if this statement is trying to say it's not art, it's obviously pretentiously making itself into a formalist argument of what art is... and in itself it is making an underhanded, shitty, and weak ass attempt at trying to be something like art: thought provoking, beautiful, aesthetic, and desired.

to me it's none of those.

  6. that's basically the appeal. everyone gets to create and design their own space... and so they flood it with disgusting design and useless shit.

it's also just a hub for people to feel popular, in with the music scene (friends with bands, etc.) and to have their pictures viewed and commented on by the world.

it's just high school all over again. that's it really.

  7. depends, if it had pictures of bundles of sticks and cigarettes, it could be the next hipster fashion in speaking out against sexual biases :P

    OBEY

the idea was great with Andre has a posse--- but using the name for the sake of selling a clothing brand? i'm sorry, phenomenology was the shit, but mass marketing that shit is not the shit if you know what i mean.

Ofcourse. I also avoid brands that are fronted by, and primarily worn by people that I cant stand.

agreed. ie.. hollister. death to hollister girls.

the thing i love is how hollister in California is also a city (not just 'hollister beach')... this city is full of mexican immigrants. their high school's mascot is the hay baler.

i was so confused when i was people wearing shirts that said hollister, at first i thought they came from that town. personally i want a hay baler shirt.

  9. well its possible, what you do is have one zipper a 'false one'... but maybe you could unzip it and reveal the internal thermal lining.

this might be nice if you want to 'cool off' and vent without unzipping and having your hoodie turn into a cape when the wind blows.

plus if the internal thermal lining is a whole different color (complimentary or fluorescent) i think it could be a very very sleek thing.

and i can't believe this came off the top of my head...

  10. your ideas are nice. but don't forget that people buy plain hoodies that are just damn good in quality, good colors, cuts, and good price.

i'm still lookin for a good quality, price, color, cut, etc.

but if you want something i've been looking for:

-a scuba hoodie, like a hood that's stitched in 3 places so it conforms to the head + the zipper zips to a high collar. i've wanted something like this for a while now and i haven't found anything that matches.

  11. i use myspace for music a lot.

recently watched circle takes the square-- got directions, times, everything. i almost booked them but the venue owner was an asshole so they opted for different location.

myspace is sometimes hard to take seriously since it's such a scenester popularity contest... not to mention i feel like i'm back in highschool when i look at some of the drama in it.

...but yeah, sure why not? :)

  12. just saw your signature (the new one)

love it. that movie was infinitely better the second time, granted the first time i watched it was low on sleep and pretty much just passed out (but i was interested in the movie!)

if you guys consider applying for a wholesale license, american apparel might be pretty good. as a whole i really don't know what companies lie outside of the US, so that's my best shot :/

    g'luck!

  13. you guys on the east coast or west coast of the US?

if you're on the east, use shirtsupplier.com

if on the west coast, shirtdistributor.com

they're pretty good, they sell for about $2.32 at MOST/per shirt. if you buy over $50 they'll bring the taping fee down to $4. they deliver fairly quickly and do not require a wholesale license (if you guys have a wholesale license, then by all means, use that!)

i tend to like Fruit of the Loom BEST 50/50 poly/cotton. they fit me really really well (i have pretty broad shoulders and like my shirts fitted) and they have lots of colors (29)

    hope this helps.
