  1. also re-reading a heartbreaking work of staggering genius today

i love eggers' ability to transcribe his inner monologue

(or to fake it beautifully, i dont really care which it is)

finished i am not myself these days

the love story contained is genuinely touching

but the backdrop of "underground" homosexuality and "the real nyc" is a bit hackneyed and self-important and touristy imho

  2. I've been meaning to get The Wind-Up Bird Chronicles, or anything by Murakami, for a really long time. I'm not sure if I'd enjoy it though.. what's the feel of the book?

i would say most of his stuff is surreal

dreamlike in a way that you dont realize how fantastic it all is while you're in the midst of it

ive found myself engulfed until the detachment following the last page

at which point i tend to reflect on how that sneaky son of a bitch manages to present the incredible and bizarre so matter of factly

i also tend to empathize strongly with his protagonists

but im not sure if thats more a reflection of my personality or his writing or maybe some alchemy of the two

i first became a fan of his after picking up the elephant vanishes

    bite-sized little morsels of dreams

not unlike those tiny bits of butterfinger you used to eat for a week after halloween

as good a diving board as any, imho

  3. come on cult, let sleeping dogs lie

anyhow i feel a bit bad about not posting more pictures

not too bad though, digicams are expensive

rest assured though, besides a two month break between semesters my sams have been seeing hell

plus i was wearing them at the supermeetup

so once sid gets his pics up ill hotlink his ass

as far as judging goes i think it would be nice if it were anything but an online vote

ideally id like it if we could maybe send our pairs to b.i.g. or selfedge and either have the staff there judge them or maybe have random denimhead customers cast their votes

personally i think that it would be preferable if the jeans were judged first hand as opposed to via digital imaging

alternatively we could charter a sufu photographer to globetrot and shoot our jeans with the same cam, same lens, and his or her best attempts at consistent lighting

  4. im put off by all the folks who make a beeline to my store fresh after watching sideways

people whose summary experience with wine is limited to white zin (the pinker the better) and luna di luna are all of a sudden too good for merlot

how can you be over an entire discipline of wine without even knowing how it tastes?

i guess that chinless shit paul giamatti must really know his stuff

frankly people who are more concerned about the "story of the grape" than the impression a wine leaves on your palate shouldnt be allowed to drink wine

    or breathe air

confession: ichigo pisses the shit out of me with this stupid fucking anime avatar.. and his stupid posts. (at least its not as bad as fW)

just because youve been posting thirty times a day for a week dont think youve earned the credibility to flame with impunity

tbh id take a dozen anime nerds over your incessant

OMG I FUCKING DONT DO ANYTHING AT WORK AND SHIT AND IM FUCKING GETTING PAID SO MUCH BUT I TOTALLY HATE IT OR SOMETHING MAYBE I SHOULD FUCKING GROW SOME BALLS AND SHIT AND FIND FUCKING SOMETHING ELSE TO DO THEN AGAIN MAYBE NOT LOL

    with that world weary affectation

though i guess advertised apathy and office delinquency are totally rad and probably the best way to win friends

on top of that it irks me to see you blowing up on posters as if you were the voice of supertalk

then again i guess you must be considering how down you are with the sarcasm meter and "troutchat"

  5. read south of the border, west of the sun last week

the only of murakami's in translation that i hadnt read yet

soul stirring and a quick read

    highly recommended

started i am not myself these days yesterday, got a scrap of it left for my lunch break tomorrow

funny at times, maybe a bit too eager to exoticize manhattan

in short: a fairly heartwarming memoir of a retired drag queen

featuring a touching, typical love story filtered through the lenses of homosexuality and drug use

    3/5 stars, probably

  6. hey fellers

    is nam son b.y.o.b.?

does anyone know if theres street parking within four blocks of the place?

also id appreciate if someone going to dinner would pm me their number

coming straight from work and i dont want to miss everyone if im running late

  7. White Manna in Hackensack is pretty darn good - esp when you chomp on it right as it comes off the grill.

    stopped by earlier today actually

id almost forgotten how fucking delectable those things are

if it was a bit less crowded id be there a whole lot more often

  8. fuck asterix for neg repping me cause im bummed i have to give away my dog, what a fucking douche.

to be fair when i read that post i thought to myself

"if you like the puppy so much why dont you just step up and accomodate?"

also no need to flip out over some red rep, jesus

i think we could all stand to learn something from darkadious

  9. imo coors light is probably the most neutral beer possible which makes it one of the most widely drinkable

so flavorless its like alcoholic club soda, which i guess is good or bad depending on what youre looking for

there are a million tastier beers out there

but im gonna echo aj in saying that coors light is definitely a solid party staple

    cheap, plain, non-filling

    the perfect binge drinking beer

  10. i once had a guy serenade me 'dear yoko' but changed yoko to my name.

    wrong thread to say so

but i love the thought of this so much

also a good balance ive found is you do the cooking, groceries, drink selection

    she does the paying

works out since girls my age are useless in the kitchen anyway

and its fun to cook without worrying too much about a budget
