  1. Cult Of Luna, Somewhere Along The Highway.

Cult Of Luna has reached the same place as Neurosis and Isis. Metal Perfection. Their last, Salvation, was mind-numbing. This shatters what's left of the mind. How can anything be this good? You emo and post-rock and avant types should be able to love this.

I have to show some love for Mouth Of The Architect, Ties That Blind. Their second disc and they're coming on very strong.

  2. SBK. It'll be fall before it gets a soak. I'm working to get some wear on other denim right now. Plus, with the heat we've been getting, I prefer to wait. I like the bit of selvege inside the coin pocket; that's just enough of a little something extra; not overdone like Jean Shop. And the black stitching is boss.

Denime bk. Sorahiko bk. Samurai bk. I'm done.

Although, 45rpm has a very tough looking pair of black jeans just in. The dye job is closer to the Levis panther black color of old. Very Lou Reed.

  3. Ian, that guy who produces and narrates those ho documentaries is embarrassing, isn't he? I tried to convince myself it was all a put on, sadly, I knew the truth- he is merely expressing how "deep" he believes his shit to be. Plus, as a documentarian, he has no idea what he is doing. Embarrassing all around. I guess crap like that pays for shows like "The Wire" and "Deadwood"- the good stuff.

  4. That White's semi-dress boot is not too bad. $360 dollars, though, according to their website, which doesn't allow for online ordering of boots; one would have to search elsewhere, I suppose. That's more than I want to spend, anyway; I need to be able to buy those Samurai limited ed. black jeans when Gordon gets his shipment next month. Hehe...

I like this: http://www.superfuture.com/city/supertalk/attachment.php?attachmentid=151&stc=1&d=1153317328 Frye calls the color "smoke". And when I imagine what they'll look like with some serious wear applied to them, I like them even better.

  5. I saw Tom Waits sporting a pair of really really really scruffy boots- lace ups- in black that looked vicious. Same kind of Indy boot vibe. I have no idea what they were. I've also seen Mark Lanegan wear the same, or similar, boot. So it's a real rock 'n roll thing, I guess. I know that's vague, but if any group of people might have a hunch, this would be the place.

  6. I saw the Rush boot as I was surfing Zappos. I like it alot. I may need it come the fall. Don't care much for the Nason boot. That German cross thing- too kitschy for me.

    I like these: http://www.antoniabyyvette.nl/docs/african-boot.html

Even though they're similar to the Frye roper, which I have, I still like the look.

We were talking about rubbernecking jeans. I rubberneck shoes all the time, and you know what, I hate most everything. For me, men's shoes just aren't getting it done. I'm usually cycling Doc's oxfords, or my ropers, or Lucchese. I bought a Fiorentini + Baker nubuck ankle boot which is outstanding with jeans. But that's it.

  7. I wish I could steal that samurai denim banner they have.

I offered some cash for the Sugarcane banner there. It would look mighty fine on the wall in the entrance to my apt. However, my girlfriend quickly put the "thumbs down" on that one.

I did not realize BIG was selling Edo Ai's for $315. That is great news, and an incentive to buy, for anyone who wants a pair. That's $180 below HP's price. Huge.

I'll have to give Samurai another look. I love that silver selvedge (I forget who it was posted a pic of his) and the pics HJJ has of worn in Samurai. But since I am not buying any more raw denim for a good long while...

  8. now that i think about it, my okinawas had no major decrease in size...

Red, so I soaked my Okinawas, finally. They shrink. Definitely. And they bled alot. I recommend putting them through a spin cycle. I still had blue fingers after. They shrank to a nice, snug, fit, slimmer than the '47's. Very slubby, it feels somewhat like the Denime fabric. I like it. We'll see how they stretch after some wear.

  9. Yes, I'm closing the door firmly on further denim purchases. I picked up a pair of black sorahikos last Sunday. I am done. I haven't even soaked my Okinawas yet. What am I doing? I have rethought the PBJ 001. I don't think I'll go for those. Certainly not now. They're just too heavy and it's too hot. I have more than enough dark indigo, and since I don't care for washes and fades and whatever, I'm done.

  10. Don't rubberneck much myself, but have been approached twice by guys asking about my black Denime's. And another occasion I was walking along my block, a woman and two men were approaching. I noticed she was wearing some selvedge. I caught the traintracks. I had on my Levis '47's, cuffed, and she was totally digging the tracks. She gave me a smile as we passed one another. Brunette. Thirties. Cute.

  11. I'm a photographer and my wifes a graphic designer and I would hate to think everyone thinks they have the right to things that we've created.

But here's what I don't understand: Aside from file-sharing (and this can be argued to the point of exhaustion), what other egregious act of theft against an artist, photographer, clothing designer, etc, can you or anyone else name that is occuring in this culture, with such rabid frequency, to cause such hysterical alarm? So much of this seems to exist in a purely conjectural space.

  12. If I'm making $1500 handbags, say, and you're creating $40 knockoffs, what do I care if some fool from Staten Island is buying your vastly, demonstrably inferior product? It's not affecting my core market. But every cheap piece of shit handbag you're selling is still advertising me. Or, like those companies that manufacture copies of gowns worn to shit spectacles like the Academy Awards for women who just need to live the dream. So? Anyone who knows knows that gown isn't a Balenciaga.

I have a much larger argument with the commonly accepted practice which says an artist must hand over the copyright in his work.
