besides going there, i've found that television is really important in making the leap from classroom or book learning to real life use. it has made me such a better speaker... it's SO much better than almost anything out there. although people dis tv, it's one of the best ways possible to learn a foreign language!

off topic, but... why does women's fashion have to be different? it's not as if women are shaped THAT differently from men... they still have two arms and two legs, things don't have to always be ultra tight like a hoochie momma. i'm a little frustrated, because men in asia are shaped differently from men in europe. why do women have to always get lame clothes with flowers and pastel shades? so it's not that raw denim isn't suitable for women... women wear pinstripes nowadays after all. i guess it's just that designers aren't putting out stuff that we women want!

the fabrik is in kreuzberg so 36... there are cool shops there, mostly around oranienstrasse. there's a cool hip hop streetwear clothings tore at schlesisches tor too. and it's in walking distance of tons of cafes and clubs, it's more loft and artsy than mitte.
but realistically, like i said, if you're only there for two days, you'll wanna be in mitte, and if it's your first time in berlin you will want to see the reichstag and all that. but so36 is the coolest part of berlin imo

well if you are only here for a day or two, i guess you can stay in mitte! it's close to a lot of clubs and shops and the landmarks... i am not familiar with hotels though since i live here.

no hot girls or guys at the aa in berlin. just anorexic wrinkly people. people here have bony asses so it is not tight on them, it hangs loose!

kudamm and west berlin are no life zones for people under 50!

if you want a classy hostel that feels more like a nice hotel, die fabrik is nice, it's in kreuzberg
german hostels are nicer than most hotels in other places... a double in a hostel is just as good as a hotel room imo

i don't believe it, nobody in Berlin is fashionable, & Berliners are not fashion leaders. maybe it's tourists from London or something. we are all about keepin the 80s and mid 90s clubwear alive. oooh yeah, buffalo platform sneakers! there are no fashion forward leaders coming from this city.Quote:
Everyone and their mom has been making slim cut jeans for about 2-3 seasons now.Quote:wtf.......a&f has slim cut jeans?

The whole "skinny jean thing started as an early backlash against bootcut jeans by NYC East villagers, and fashionable Berliners and Parisians in particular. There were essentially 2 reactions to the extreme bootcuts - one was the Rogan "antifit" and loose fit aesthetic (which I prefer), the other the "skinny jean" aesthetic. I think that the skinny jean aesthetic caught more momentum because Hedi Slimane became "the" celebrity designer at that time, and he was always enamoured of APC's skinny silhouette, which, coincidentally, began expanding its distribution around 2001.
By 2003-2004, the lowrise bootcut had reached its apex, and the backlash against that trend had moved beyond the early adopters to the general population. In 2000-2001, unless you were in Japan or had access to obscure repro brands, you essentially had Helmut Lang and APC to choose from for straightleg/skinny/tapered jeans) in North America. Europeans had a wider range to choose from (SBU, for example) but the Swedish brands hadn't really become popular yet. Now, the Gap, Banana Republic, A&F, all carry skinny jeans, selvedge jeans, or both.
I'm not trying to "hold court" or whatever. I'm just writing my observations, and a lot of trend forecasters could write the same thing I just did.

the fashion is really nice in bangkok. i was surprised... a lot of the japanese labels are made there too. you can get really nice-quality t-shirts for $1 or $2. the design is sharp, and a lot of the stuff they sell in the markets isn't fake---the factories are all down there. stussy, fred perry, etc. it's as good as or is the real thing.

techno isn't my thing, but berlin is the capital of techno. there's a really good tresor techno night at maria (tresor closed down) on wednesday nights, and it's always full and very wild, but there is a crowd of the German equivalent of the guido... friendly, not so pretentios, but pretty trashy.Quote:3/23 thru 3/25 (Just Thursday Night, Friday and Friday night... back to Barcelona on Saturday.)
I would really appreciate a good rundown of what to do... I like wiling out, doing drugs, and clubs with electro/house or hipster shit or eurocrunk or whaateverrrrrr.... No trance. No "underground hip hop."
I also like modern art, design, film, youth cultural centers and edgy galleries and boutiques.
Hit me up and THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!

white trash is nice, so is dr. pong, the house music and electro parties are kind of scary, really metrosexual with lots and lots of hair gel. i'll look things up for you though.
as far as shopping goes, this is not the place for it... i like the illmatic store though. as for modern art, design, and stuff like that, the city's chockful of it.

there are cool skating spots, like at the olympia stadium and at friedrichshain volkspark, but imo the cobblestones suck and you have to carry your board half the time, you can't really skate down the street because of the way the streets are made. there are some really nice skate parks that just opened too, especially at casseiopeia, if you're into ramps.Quote:it's been a few years since i have been to berlin, so i can't help too much on places to go, but if you skate def take your board ... it's an awesome city to skate in ....
