Yes. Sinn uses Argon (Ar is its chemical symbol). But the copper sulfate they're talking about is a material designed to absorb moisture (like sodium silicate or those "silica gel" packets they put in clothing and shit).
I think the Argon is used in conjunction with the sulfate to remove oxygen and basically keep the watch parts in an atmosphere that's free of contaminants.
What sucks is that you should ever have to send it back. Seems like with all of those precautionary measures the watch should be bulletproof.

does anyone knows what watch is this guy wearing in this picture?
it looks like a rolex 6538, but with sterile dial (?)
The lack of the crown guard is a little weird. But I've never seen a sterile Kingston.
I feel like I've seen a few sterile Benrus divers but never with the mercedes hands. Could be a custom joint he got somewhere.
There are tons of great sub homages out there. What's with the fixation on that particular watch?
Edit: Ril is a relatively new watch company and this looks identical to what that dude is wearing.
I hope he didn't pay $1k for it. For that kind of money you can do a lot better than a Sub homage with a Japanese movement.

Carl payed a grip for the vette with the handi-cap sticker
Weren't you wearing that 45rpm joint that Carl's wearing in a recent WAYWT Mikey? That's cute.
XOXO.
Miss You.

Yes. $360 is a solid price. If it's not gone it would be a wise pickup.

Currently only working with:
Rolex Air King (just put back on oyster bracelet for the winter, leather for the summer)
Seiko SKX173 (Daily beater on oyster bracelet)
G-Shock DW6900
Would love to pick up a Sub at some point. Also really like the Nav-B pilot watches from Steinhart. A Sinn 656 is also on the pickup list.
I'd be happy with 4-5 watches at a time. If you want to talk to a real collector talk to Kiya. He mentioned awhile back that he has something over 100 watches and he always seems to be on the hunt for a new vintage Rolex. Would love to see him list off his collection.

Looking for a solid, tough number in $2-500, and won't do a Japanese watch.
Like German, pilot, infantry-style, etc. minimal. Tough, calendar, pref auto or chrono, but can live w/o it. Where to cop?
I like the Steinhart Nav-B Uhr that's been mentioned a few times recently. Solid pilot's watch at great prices but no calendar.
Check the Steinhart site and be sure to check Watchuseek for any used Nav B's before making a purchase. There's usually one or two people selling on there.

I'm a fan of the shooting patches on some of this RL stuff but I took a second to try a few of these shirts on at Bloomies here in SF and they fit like complete boo boo.
Would definitely need a tailor to make adjustments. Hopefully you tried yours on first...

Actually just picked up this SKX173 today. One of the first US market SKX's produced (1996). Slight differences between this and the 007/009 but I think I like the rectangular markers more than the rounded 007/009 markers.
I'll probably throw it on a ZULU or a NATO after wearing it on the oyster band for a little while.

To be fair, the Air King was originally a 1940's WWII pilot's watch. Which is partially why I thought it might look interesting on an olive or black NATO strap. And it's not something you see every day.
Also, I love the look of a Sub on a NATO and the sub doesn't have military roots at all. It was made for diving.
As for the watch being dressy, I'd disagree. The face is almost identical in both size and style to the Rolex Explorer...which IMO looks great on a NATO and isn't dressy at all.
We'll see. Thanks for the opinions.

My watch for the record.

I realize this is a woman's hand. But I've always wondered what my Air King would look like a NATO. My Air King is much newer and I'd love to throw it on an olive band.
Thoughts? Part me just feels like I just let this chick do her thing and keep mine in the leather strap it's on.
EDIT: I also realize this is not an Air King. But it has similar measurements and dial style.

Both look great. Would love a sub too. Soon.

But if, for whatever reason, he did...I would kill to see some photos!

Didn't IWC do that in 1985 - Da Vinci (Ref. 3750)....
I went ahead and assumed he didn't own a 1985 IWC Da Vinci. If he does, he probably wouldn't be asking...

I'm not really sure what you're asking. There's no internal computer in automatic or even quartz watches that understands when there are 31 days, 30 days or 28 days in a month. You'll have to continue manually adjusting the datewheel in order to change it to the correct date.
Does that answer your question?

You've pretty much said exactly what I said only with more technical terms.
As far as removing oxygen from the watch: yes, the Argon gas is used so that the watch is oxygen free. Oxygen causes things, particularly metals, to corrode. Removing the oxygen from the case keeps the moving parts in a corrosion free environment. Your watch isn't going to "break" immediately if exposed to oxygen.
I didn't say that the gas is designed to remove the oxygen. Oxygen is removed from the case by filling it with Argon gas.
And yes, you could use Nitrogen. Sinn just uses Argon.
