  1. This is an open question to anyone who has tried both the japanese range and the US range:

How does the US "Heritage Style" Fit compare with, say, the Japan 2000 or 2001 fit? It seems to me like the US rise is not quite as long and that the seat doesn't flare out quite so much. Plus, a lot of the US range is sanforized.

  2. they've been hot for a minute over there... in most issues of free and easy / lightning, et al., people usually rock authentic vintage ones. usually, they're hardcore farmer brands like Big John or maybe lee. Also, don't expect them to fit slim in the legs; they should be worn a little oversize.

  3. if I had to guess, I'd say no. but there IS much better stuff there that you could spend the same amount of money on... if you like the ED47 rainbow selvage, you'd probably much rather prefer Somets.

do some searching around the forums, esp the how jeans fit and evolutions of jeans threads.

  4. i heard that the lead designer for Jah Cru is cozy with Mr. Steven Alan hisself

it seems the brands are influencing each other (maybe too much)

they laugh alike they walk alike at times they even talk alike

that would make sense, given its recent turn around in design. J. Crew is one of the few mall brands to realize that APC, Steven Alan, et al are essentially putting out the same stuff at a higher price point and are still attracting crowds.

Gap, despite the much hyped arrival of Patrick Robinson, has not experienced a similar revival

  5. bumping this thread... not seriously looking for a new leather just yet, but was wondering what's out there as far as modern Rider's style jackets.

One of the previous posters in the thread noted that he ordered a Lost Worlds jacket but was disappointed with the fit (I'm assuming because it was more of a vintage fit). What I'd like to find is something that is a little more vintage inspired in styling, but fits a little more modern (i.e. longer torso, narrow shoulders, longer sleeves) Basically, it would be ideal if I found the RRL version of a Buco Rider's jacket.

  6. ^ sorry to hear about that man... but I'd be lying if I hadn't had some dark fantasy of being let go from my job to go frolic in my jeans in peace...

as promised the sweet fadezzz, x-posted from the main contest thread:

Weekend Warrior reporting in... pics from my recent vacation. The color representation is pretty poor, but I thought it might be fun to show them on the beach. They're more worn in in real life.

Washes: only an initial hotsoak followed by a hot wash

Wear time: probably 3 months by now (I'd hope!)

    Ownership time: since October 2007...

  8. ^^ to add to CD's comment: they appear to be selling the 1920's and the 1940's. The 1920's are the quirkiest of the bunch, I'd say; Lower rise, buckle back, huge pockets and reinforced stitching PLUS double chainstitched at the hem and crotch reinforcement.

I truly hope they haven't stopped producing the 1950... that's on my short list of jeans to buy. My 1920's and 1930's (which I bought for $60 on the 'Bay, a fucking steal) are worn 2 sizes big in old school workwear style and I was thinking of purchasing 1950's true to size and wear them straight edge style...

  9. I am interested in seeing what new products Takumi is rolling out this season. If I had to venture a guess, I'd predict that the exposed selvage is going to go bye-bye, but who knows.

I did see the 50% off sale the other day and it definitely piqued my interest. It would be a good starter jean for anybody looking to get into the japanese repro game. Their fabric is a little closer to the quirkier companies than other alternatives at the same price point (RRL, APC, Nudie)

  10. This Saturday night from 7pm – 12am we’ll be having a party at the store for the new

Samurai Fall/Winter 2008 collection hosted by the two designers of Samurai Jeans

here from Japan. They’ll bring with them everything from the new season which

includes some new styles that will be debuting this Fall. We’ll be serving free refresh-

ments, giving away some small gifts the Samurai guys will be bringing along, and

having sales throughout the store so please stop in and be our guest for the evening.

Funny thing is, I might not be able to go myself... but thought the rest of SuFu should know.

  11. I admire evisu, but $350 + s&H? That's a tad bit too rich for my plebian blood right now. Hopefully they'll get some No. 2' for dung herders like myself.

It might sound like a lot, but you won't get a much better price from a Japan proxy... plus you get the right to return it or a refund.

    stuff to mull over.

  12. speaking of smells, I kind of got addicted (over time) to the starchy smell of raw denim that's only been washed or soaked once.

Whenever I start a new pair it brings back good memories about other pairs. It's kind of like how I grew to like the fuzziness of once washed denim...all part of the process.
