my uncle, who went to one of the evisu stores in osaka, told me you can buy evisu jeans without gulls there and they can put gulls on the jeans in the colors you want, or only a gull on one pocket, or even nothing on it. i guess this is one of those pairs.Quote:I have a pair of 2001's made by Yamane with no gulls(ever) on the pockets. I got them a few years ago in a liquidation sale.
Very understated, any one know more?

i cant tell whether its selvage or just an overlockstitch... http://cgi.ebay.nl/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=11483&item=3976161667&rd=1

i could be mistaken yes, but what i do know is that (one of) the founder(s) also has some clothingstores in holland (which of course also sells atelier) but he could be a belgian yes, same language though..

you know what the weird thing is... a lot of brands are fighting the fakes by lawsuits etc... but i've never read anything about LV doing that...

i only know a couple of retailers in holland... by the way, did you guys know atelier is owned by a dutchman, not a frenchman? the story about a rich frenchman who only wanted to make a great pair of jeans or something like that is just salestalk (is that the good word?)

I am aware of that. But what I'm thinking is that they somehow control the replica market and gain extra money through this illegal method.

how big are the odds that brands like LV own a big part of fake industries? i mean, you can't stop the production of fake bags etc, so why not keeping that marketshare to themselves and make more money? its just theory...

the funny thing about fake lacoste polo's is that a lot are produced in the same factories as the authentic ones... usually they are made with cheaper materials or they are leftovers

non of the jeans on the atelier website have a selvage seam
and about the baggy fit... this season there was a new, slim model in the collection, but only a few, selected shops got to sell them. probably next season all other atelier sellers will be getting the slim model

it's nice to read that people are thinking the same as me about evisu. i'm the lucky owner of 3 pairs of late '90s european evisu and 3 pairs made in japan but when you see all the new stuff and, not to forget, the fakes, its sometimes not fun anymore. one time, a guy wearing the fake version of the jeans i was wearing came to me and said: 'hey, thats funny, we're wearing the same jeans'....

i was wondering what all denim fans think of evisu nowadays. i still love it, although i only wear the made in japan and old ('90s) models.

if jeans are being faked, but still be a great pair of jeans of good quality, does it really matter? i mean, a lot of japanese brands are also copies of levis, which you all love. i think it doesn't matter at all except its not ethical, let me know what you guys all think.Quote:why are REPRO Levis LVC faked? i can understand selling fakes as real pre-60s vintage to get $$ but i dont get why someone would fake reproductions (as there apparently seems to be a lot of on ebay).....if you had the means to make a decent pair of selvage denim jeans why not start your own label and make Levis clones like Denime, Sugarcane, Dry Bones etc? and are the fakers making a pair here and there or are they mass-producing them by the 100s, 1000s?
now regarding this ebay seller with the $15,000+ 1890s jeans buying a fake pair of 201s in a previous auction, am i right in assuming their fake-ness comes from the presence of the red tab, which the white cloth patch 201s didnt have? (i have a pair of white cloth patch repro 201xx and they are blue line selvage, not redline....is that historically accurate or not?)
