I used the SF guide quite a bit for Osaka and loved it. Shinmachi is my favorite area to walk around at night. Plenty of sweet bars and restaurants out there.

any spots you recommend in Shinmachi?

i know there isn't really much to see in Osaka for touristy things. I'll try to hit up Naoshima. Any other suggestions?

also, i think it has something to do with the whack-ass pricing system of hotels in japan.

some places charge by person, not by room. that creates problems like bringing BZs back to a single room and etc.

but then, when you book a double room, you just strike out completely.

exactly. i'm trying to book a hotel right now but we got 3 heads. that just makes it even more difficult. 2 is no problem.

i don't think there's any city in the world that has a broader category of quality cheap eats than japan. i know we all make fun of matsuya and sukiya but you can never get food of that quality in other countries for like <400 yen.

really? I kinda feel its the opposite. or maybe some sort of feeback-loop. I mean supreme has always been cool since the beginning. It sort of saw a downturn post lehman crisis but with the advent of odd future/asap rocky to become more noticable to the mainstream in the last 2 years. I feel the japanese are really just appropriating the style again and copying what is cool in NYC. I think the same could be said about Saturday's surf. I suppose a certain group of Japanese style makers who have connections w/ the right people in NYC appropriated the style. Then NYC dudes see jap-kids rocking it and then they re-appropriate it. And it just feed's on itself in a constant loop....

Warp magazine this month had a full feature on Saturday's Surf NYC. I honestly don't understand the culture. Surfing is from LA/West Coast. Will always be. I don't this uptown/surfing culture thing that going on. I feel Japanese hipster will appropriate this wrongly like they did fixi culture and start trying to surf Tokyo bay.

nyc might not have the west coast culture, but plenty of people do surf. it's a trendy cool guy boutique with a surf theme, similar to what supreme has become. though both shops actually carry several goods for their "theme"..

Yeah, Tigerprawn pretty much said it. The SE Draft uses hi-ten steel which isn't great or anything. But you get what you pay for when it comes to steel tubing.

Stay away from the Sakura House Hotel in Shinjuku.

That place is super filthy and you could find much better accomodations for your money.

Staff was rude. Sheets, carpet, and even walls were dirty.
