  1. It looks OK...

I mean, the grain is pretty intact.

All veg tanned and even some chrome tanned leathers are going to do funny things in hot water - lose oil, lose dye, shrink, grain contraction, etc.

I find that most leathers do OK unless the water temp exceeds 50 Celsius.

I think it looks fine too. Should darken up with some wear too. It's probably my favorite patch of any pants I own. My wife loves it too which is rare for stuff like that.

Here is a pic of my patch after an hour warm soak and 15 min hot soak bother with agitation.

And here is a picture after about a day of wear. They have already stretched to at least raw measurements but it might be past raw. The rise has also stretched some and is much more comfortable.

  3. This pair is super hard to photograph...took me ages to get the colours to come out right on the monitor.

More photos and some words on my blog.

tl:dr Cool fabric, well made, one of the most interesting pairs in recent memory.

Pretty much exactly how I feel. These jeans would have been perfect with a slightly higher rise. They are still amazing and I plan on wearing them hard.

Preliminary crappie phone pics of the new jeans fresh after a soak. I'll upload some more pictures later after I get some time but I just want to go over some initial thoughts.

The denim. Holy shit. These things are slubby and stiff. In the picture they might look painted on my thighs but they have actually formed a tube around my leg. They feel heavier than my 19oz samurais after a wash. The warp is similar to the 51xx but the weft is something you have to experience in person. Someone described them as little foam rollers and I can't definitely see that. The denim is also super dark. I don't think my hands have ever been this blue.

The fit. The fit is similar to the oni 517 but has the rise of PBJs. The rise was supposed to be longer on these compared to other cuts but it's still pretty short. Lucky for me I like low rise jeans. But I'm also hoping the rise stretches a bit. The taper on these is perfect. The proportions are just right;having a fuller thigh while not being too tapered. If the rise was a little higher these would be my absolute favorite. The inseam on these are also perfect for me. These are not hemmed.

Post soak. I did a warm soak then hot soaked the top block and knee down. The thighs and lower leg didn't shrink much but the rise and the length shrunk a ton. Probably and inch and a half on the inseam.

If anyone has any other questions I'm more than happy to ask. Overall I love these so far and can't wait to see how they fit and feel once broken in.

  5. I know some of you have had your 710s tapered, I have never had a pair of jeans tapered before and I'm sure every pair and person is different.  To those of you that have though, did you have the entire leg tapered or just from the knee (or another point) down?  I know these are supposed to naturally taper down, but I have short legs so I still get a relatively wide leg opening.

     I did knee down.

Here is a pic of my xx014s. I wear a lot of neutral colors so I don't find it too difficult to pull them off. I haven't worn them much because I'm trying to destroy my 710xx for the DWC. They stretch out a decent amount but they shrink back up in SE Asia where I live due to the humidity.

  7. Bit more evo on mine. Still holding off on the first wash for a little while longer

Man I really want to start on mine but I kind of want to save then for the DWC next year. Currently wearing 710xx and those are my DWC pair (no crazy evo like yours since I can only wear them on the weekend).

  8. We will release a collaboration with Real Japan Blues (sister company to The Flat Head) around September.

Can't wait to see the sizing! Real interested in RJB in a more tapered fit. I got a PBJ jacket a year ago from you guys and it's great.

  9. Picked up the new Oni 612idid. By far the most tapered jeans I've ever had. I would probably do better with the 516 version. The measurements were far smaller than denimio. Inseam was 2" shorter pre soak than denimio listed and same with big. Hem shrunk down 1" more than expected.

If the denim is the same as the 517 (14oz) then they will stretch a lot.  At least they did for me.

  10. Ah yes.. You can see it. I keep thinking I want a pair of 710xx's but the best fits I have seen have all been altered. I'm skinny so anything less than super tapered/tight looks stupid on me. I might try the SDA 107's.

I don't know.  I have see some pretty slim fits on skinny guys in the Samurai thread.  You should look through it.

  11. Sort of on/off topic, but one way the B&M stores in Japan are able to get and maintain customers is through in-store events, some of which have already been mentioned (like flat head at SE). One thing I haven't seen outside of Japan very much though, maybe with the exception of Visvim, is seasonal pre-order events. That is, the brand brings samples of the next collection six months or so it's released to a particular store (they often tour around to the different cities in Japan) and people can take a look, try it on and order it if it works for them. I would think some of the denim shops could benefit from that sort of thing, assuming the brands would be into the idea, it's feasible cost-wise and that sort of thing. It's a good way to avoid the internet somewhat and develop closer brand-store-customer relations.

It's not just in-store events either.  Denimio has been killing it lately with the contests and collabs.  Its pretty insane. Their community outreach and presence is whats really winning over customers.  They do instagram picture contests, contests between brands, fade contests, make sick collabs like the 710DMO, etc.  Its not only the price; I bought the DMOs and had no intention of wearing them anytime soon and they definitely werent cheap.

  12. I order from Denimio and OD because I don't have a BM store close that has the brands I want. When I lived in Seattle I would go to Blue Owl and Self Edge but there is a small selection of brands. If I want anything different I don't see the benefits of not ordering from a Japanese site; they have the same stuff plus more details (red tab and arcs) for a 1/3rd of the price.
