  1. Maybe unrelated but does anyone have experience wearing shell cordovan in all weather?  I really love shell but I don't love it as much as I hate babying boots.  So I'd wear them rain, shine, slush or snow.  I have read up that shell was originally used mainly for this purpose of being stronger than cow hide but I wasn't sure if it works in modern practice.

  2. Killer shirt and fit Ben! I think you pull off those colors very well, really.

Also, open question: Do Flat Head's button-ups run any longer than their T-shirts? I have a THC shirt that I love but it's a bit too short and tight to work with wider cuts, despite fitting great in the shoulders.

I have 2 of their western flannels, 1 Wabash and 1 button up short sleeve and I'd say the length is about the same as the T-shirts.  Honestly maybe a touch shorter.

  3. Here is my dog's leash and collar I made.  They're just Tandy leather straps.  I used an awl on both sides and rubbed them smooth and gave them a healthy amount of LP.  The leash was inspired by a leash I saw online ($120 though, no way!) and the collar is actually Tandy's dog collar pattern but I used better leather than they give you with the kit.  Maybe 1.5 years old.  The leash uses Chicago screws the collar uses snaps.  I first had screws on that as well but the male part kept unwinding from the female so I ditched the idea.

  4. Anyone else own TSG long wallet?  I guess it isn't selling well because Klax-On has it for about half off so its pretty dirt cheap through Rakuten.  I really like it.  Build quality is through the roof and the leather is a thing of beauty.  Here are some shots right after I unboxed it so no sun tanning or anything.  The shot with my PBJs is maybe after only a few weeks of use.  The lanyard is Kicking Mule Workshop.  The wallet of which this one replaced.

  5. Also to try and actually contribute to this thread other than internet retailer vs brick and mortar musings.  BiG had their summer sale and I bought this FC leather jacket for a song.  It may be just a touch big but I really like it.

  6. I guess maybe I'm a dirty capitalist but I've always been of the opinion if you can't compete that means you've got a bad business model.  BiG/SE have a great thing going because they actually have these items in stock so you can look, feel and size.  For the average joe (someone not posting on a denim forum) they don't want to buy expensive clothes before being able to try it on.  So BiG/SE have a great market there.  The only time it feels scummy is if someone uses SE/BiG to determine sizing, get great customer service and help at the retail store then goes home to "think about it" and just purchases the same thing from Rakuten.  I have an issue with that.  But that relies upon hoping people aren't assholes which in my experience with people is a pretty big jump.

  7. Don't forget that this has happened before. Pretty sure Denimio were very close to stocking The Strike Gold and then it got pulled last minute, if I remember correctly due to pressure from international retailers who TSG understandably didn't want to piss off by giving business to Denimio.

That entire thing as a tad messy since Kiya said on reddit he never once blocked TSG from being stocked.

  8. Yeah I was a tad upset that Denimio without me even asking marked my jeans as a sample.  I'm no perfect angel but it felt somewhat wrong to blatantly lie on the importing slip.  I know on reddit it is pretty common for everyone to ask Rakuten stores to mark the item as lower value but it feels wrong to me.  I'm actually glad 2nd and Klax outright refuse to do it.

  9. But why target Denimio?  Because it specializes in overseas shipping?  Why not go after like Klax-On, 2nd, Pirates or any other store that is fine with shipping overseas.  Is FC also pulling out of Okayama Denim?

  10. I with you on this, I love FH and IH but don't relate to the hot rod/bike angle. But FH has a lot of really cool other designs which are old western, space age themes, retro casino/bar culture. Some really cool shit. Browse 2nd sometime for FH tees. Enormous selection.

Yep I really love their native American themed shirts.  They're my favorites.  But I overall prefer TSG t-shirts to TFH.  TSG shirts just fit me perfect.

  11. One issue I've ran into with the graphic T's from most Japanese brands is they love the automotive and biking culture.  Obviously inspired by 50's motor clubs which is the era they're trying to reproduce.  The issue is I don't really have much of a passion for bikes or cars.  So I feel like a bit of a poser when I wear something like my TSG Hot Rod Customs t-shirt or a TFH graphic.  I love the shirts and the design but I've been asked a few times what kind of car I own and I have to kind of reluctantly say .... Um a honda civic.

  12. Its probably a combo of both. I am 6'2"-6'3" and my torso is long, but I guess I would like something a little longer. Maybe I should get something like http://www.selfedge.com/shirts?product_id=1440or some type of heavy work shirt, and use it kinda like a jacket.

and to boark, that over dyed jacket is amazing, but I can't spend that much

Self Edge has collab type 3's that are "extended" meaning it basically adds some length to the torso.  My SEXIH18 jacket is the extended version and I love it.  I'm not a huge fan of denim jackets being above or just at the belt line so its perfect for my taste.  I also wear it as my winter jacket.  Throw a TSG hoodie underneath it and I've worn it at 0F.

  13. Yes, I'd say a 44 or 46 would be fine. Broark can chime in, I think he's about that size... the thing to keep in mind with t shirts is that the measurements aren't absolute like on a rayon shirt or something, you can manipulate the measurements to suit you.

I bought a bunch of 42's because the 40's were skin tight on me, but after wearing them it was clear the 42's were sloppy and too big. I just stretch the 40s in the chest by wearing them etc and they end up perfect.

Really funny thing is I have a 42 in black in TFH that fits me perfect.  Literally my best fitting t shirt.  Then I have the EXACT same model/print/shirt in heather gray and it fits me big.  It is really weird.

  14. Nice pickup Frost.  I love TSG crew necks.  May pick up a few more blanks as undershirts for this coming winter.  My "Desert Turtles" TSG crew neck has become a weekly staple for me.

Like you said I'm a Small in US sizing and require a L in TSG.  Though I feel that is not unusual for most Japanese brands.  I wear L in Samurai and SDA as well.  What I love about Japanese sizing is Large basically means "Bigger shoulders and chest" but it doesn't massively increase the waist.

On a side note I have a TSG v-neck in white.  It is getting some yellow pit stains.  But it has the TSG logo on the sleeve so I'm nervous to bleach the entire thing.  Any tips?

  15. I kind of love SDA's gimmicky side.  I feel you can really see the humor in their sensibilities especially in their shirts.  I'm almost addicted to buying SDA graphic T's these days that I find downright hilarious.  My favorite has to be the Disney x SDA one with Micky being shocked by a pair of jeans.

Probably a close second is one I'm still trying to wrap my head around

The only thing I really dislike is some of SDA's stuff is made in China.  You can usually tell the country of origin based upon the price but occasionally you'll buy something and you'll see that Made in China on it when you weren't 100% expecting it.

  16. Any community like that has a hivemind. This one is guilty of its own in ways as well.

No doubt.  I've lurked sufu for a while now its just I finally got off my arse to email an admin for why my account was screwed up.  But at least there is a variety of cuts and brands featured and the individual brand comment threads and bumping nature of forums makes it more accessible to see what you want to see.  The past month of reddit has basically been an endless stream of Oni fit checks.

Also that is another thing I don't get.  Reddit's love for Denimio.  I've bought from them.  Yeah it was easy.  But no easier than 2nd/pirates/klax-on/au-rodeo ... basically any rakuten store I've used.  It is like all the people on reddit just realized Oni just now exists because Denimio stocks them but you could have easily bought them at Japanese prices way, way before Denimio.

  17. My biggest gripe with reddit is not exactly that most people are new to raw denim.  I get it people need to start somewhere.  I get it you're proud of your brand new unbranded jeans and you want to show them off.  Fine, whatever.  My biggest issue is the hivemind.  Probably because the reddit up/down vote system actively supports "one true opinion" but if you have anything off-keel you'll get some snarky comment which will be the most upvoted thing in the thread.  If you aren't wearing either Wolverines, Red Wings, have size downed slim tapered cut with a J Crew gingham top you're going to get your outfit questioned.  My last progress update was my 1 year PBJ 24-005 which will probably be my last album I post there.  More people were concerned about my TSG long wallet because apparently they've never heard or seen a long wallet in their life.  So there is really just no point anymore.  I've had beefs with the rawdenim community for a few years now I honestly don't know why I even go there so often.

  18. so Ill shut the fuck up now because I copped a Strike Gold loop wheeled t shirt today at SESF.  LOL tho because I got the XXL.  The XL fit like a glove but I dont want to have to do anything different to it than my other shirts.  That means cold wash, tumble dry and tossed into a drawer, if I even get that far.  I know these are washed but Im forever nervous about losing length.

The shirt fabric is great.  XXL has a side seam, but I dont care.  Its a nice weight, not as heavy as Iron Heart shirts but it has substance.  Neck hole is perfect.

I own quite a lot of TSG t shirts now and I haven't had issues with really any shrink.  They feel the same from when I tried them on to what they are now.  It did take me a little while to finally accept I'm a size S in basically every t shirt brand except for the Japanese Loopwheels which I pretty much always order size L.  At least in TSG and SDA.  TFH seems a bit more true but they don't use S/M/L.

  19. Has to be my PBJ 24-005.  I love the fabric, love the fit, love the color they faded towards, love the butt leaf.  Everything about them is great.  Construction possibly could be a touch better and since I bought them from BiG price could have been lower but its all good.

Prior to that were my Nudie x Context Average Joe jeans.  They fit me perfectly and faded wonderfully.
