  1. New to this forum and relatively new to Veilance. Picked up an Isogon at a decent discount in the fall and loved it so much I got the IS Field Jacket for winter.

Anyone know if the there coming out with any other pants for S/S16? My thighs are too big for Voronios. Hoping for a new season of Apparats.

There are apparats this season.  Ssense and a bunch of other sellers I'm sure has them right now.

  2. Just wanted to share my collection of veilance pieces I have gotten in the past several years. I am so in love with Veilance, basically wear/ carry a piece of veilance everyday. CRAZY....

    Jackets:

    Partition Coat

    Hooded Wool Jacket

    Composite

    Scend

    Anode (Concepts Crossover)

    Pants:

    Voronoi AR x 2

    Module x 2

    Voronoi Shorts

    Cargo LT Shorts

    Bags:

    Seque (First Issue)

    Nomin (First Issue)

I second this; though, I'm sure most people on this thread are equally in love with AV.

I have the galvanic (new iteration), composite, doeln, partition, monitor LT, field LT, and actuator and they are all my regular rotation jackets.  I wear the shit out of them and they hold up well.

My acronym collection is just as extensive, but I can't be rolling into my office looking like I'm about to go on a gun rampage (my coworker's words not mine).

  3. Thank you for the offer but will wait for the drop on the veilance site with my size. Speaking of which anyone know when SS16 due there?

oh, that came out wrong.  I wasn't offering to proxy.  I was just offering a suggestion.

  4. Hah word so I'm 'dumb as shit' now? Got it. I let go of the idea of rocking the cargos. I explained why I was considering it and discussed how I was hoping to make it work. Got suggestions to not do it, then dropped it. Then i asked for some actual ski pant suggestions. Aye this is sufu, and I been in here for almost 10 years so I'm no stranger to shit talk and bashing, but in this convo, it ain't even necessary. Folks made suggestions and I took the suggestions.

People got to chill.  If you wanna wear your ACG skiing, then by all means go ahead.  That being said, I own the cargoes, and there is very little to recommend it as a ski pant.  Layering will do little to change the fact.  But if you value aesthetics over comfort, man, that's your decision.

On a side note, as a skiier of 25 years, you're more judged on your skiing abilities than your steez.  Unless you're a terrible skiier in 3k worth of gear...like every Mainlander ever on Whistler - then you are just flat ridiculed.

  5. get a proxy have the value altered, there are several EU folks around.

    I second this.

Though I have to say you should be a bit careful; when you buy direct from Europe, you drop the 20% Vat.  Make sure the shipping/proxy fees/currency exchange does not exceed the 10-12% difference (you generally pay about 25-30% on VAT-less prices for duties/etc.)  or you will end up paying more for your acronym product or paying the same but having to wait double the time and having the risk of losing an underdeclared package.

    Just saying.

  6. @Shieldsy: I guess it's different in Quebec. I'm dinged--pretty hard--for anything over $50. And am hit with, at least, $20 for items declared under $50 shipped via couriers like UPS, Fed-Ex, DHL etc.

That's pretty weird that you do.  The post service is a federal service and they pretty much roll by the same rules no matter point of entry; according to unspoken government guidelines, it's just not worth the labor cost to process any item for duties if the item is less than 60 dollars (that's the unspoken threshold.)

It may have to do with different PST, though.  Because GST/PST is also levied on top of the duties.

I know this because I've worked at a brokerage and my schooling was taught by current Canadian customs officers.

  7. while we're on the topic i just got a sweater from norse store and checking online they seem notorious for custom fees from using fedex and marking the item at full value.

checking the label and the package was marked as $192.00 value and described as a "mens hoodie 100% cotton."

from what i know there's a chance i won't get hit with customs because the item is valued under $200 but i am never sure with fedex. what do you guys think?

I can almost guarantee you will get hit with something.  using a private brokerage like UPS/Fedex etc will almost ALWAYS result in extra fees - whether it be duties and brokerage fees or just brokerage fees.

I know both the Canadian government and US government (federal mail services) tend not to charge duties on things under 200 (as a rule of thumb), but parcel services WILL.

  8. You guys have to also consider:

    1. what country is the item coming in from (shit from Japan under 1k generally receives no duties, its a trade agreement from what I know)

    2. what country of origin are the materials primarily composing the jacket

    3. who the hell is doing your paperwork (Acronym uses UPS, so the UPS brokerage will do your paperwork.  There is a huge difference between using a private brokerage and using a public service liks USPS or Canada Post.)

  9. how do you reckon? traditionally the biggest short term factor on clothing prices is the oil price, which is dropping. the canadian dollar has been steadly dropping too.

this is pretty redundant - the loonie is a petrocurrency.

  10. The duty is 160.33.

    Seriously?

    Fcuk Canadian duties/customs.

    Blackbox,

I'm 5'9 and 148, i got a small and the fit is great. In the picture i'm wearing a thick crewneck underneath and there's still room to move around comfortably.

If you're in the states you'll receive it in 3 days and the duty tax is $160.33 (just fyi)

  11. Just a legal aside, patents pending does not mean that their IP is protected.  Competitors can still copy, and Acrnm has no legal options until their patents are official.  A patent is just the legal right to sue someone for infringing on IP.

This is a moot point, because we are talking about one or two jackets at most, but sometimes larger companies will still copy regardless of a patent because the profits they generate outweigh any legal costs they incur.  Why do you think Apple and Samsung are perenially in court; they make more money in revenues of "copied" goods than it costs than in legal fees.  Financially, Acrnm knows that Gucci can easily bully them legally.

Finally, patents are not clear cut.  There is no universal patent office. You can file in Europe and North American, but it may not be recognized elsewhere.  Most of the modern world cooperates with each other but suing someone internationally is stupidly hard.  (Once again using Apple and Samsung as examples, why do you think they keep suing each other in different countries' courts?)

  12. This isn't a new thing though is it? How much did the J47A, J27 etc costs you in import duties if you don't mind me asking?

lol nothing.  I live in Vancouver, I just order it to Blaine, and drive it across the border.

  13. Overall is about 35% on top of the total amount. I either get a friend abroad (EU) to proxy me. It takes longer but def way cheaper. I never order anything that will get duties and taxes. Its so fucking bullshit

I think it is almost the same as paying retail from Havenshop

Yea dude, pretty much.  However, if you don't have a friend and if you use a proxy like Sutocorp, it almost costs as much as going direct from ACRNM.  I'd rather get it in 3 days from ACRNM than 2 weeks from Sutocorp and have a difference of 25 bucks.  (I've done this before)

Total amount paid was pretty much 30% on retail.

  14. Fuuuuuuuuuck.

    Sorry to hear that, man.

you know, it's not so bad (in a certain way)- the brokerage fee was only 13 bucks.  The remaining gazillion was duties and gst/pst.

  15. Acronym does that (I assume) to provide different aesthetics or feels to the same jacket block.

Acronym likes tweaking their iterations because from what I've seen it believes in the spirit of innovation and evolution (this is all assumption; there are far more connected people than I in regards to acrnm.)

In terms of waterproofability - GT Pro is handsdown the best material I've ever owned.  Eta is definitely quieter and softer and breathable, and I know for many people that's a huge attraction, but for me, I like my goretex extra crispy with a side of crispy.

Etaproof is basically ventile with dwr, from what I know.
