  1. Ran across this brand at Beams a few months ago, haven't seen it here.

    http://www.uberfunction.com/

    http://www.uberfunction.com/details/product/city-parka-7009.html

I sort of like the City Parka - I really want a viable competitor to the Veilance insulated field jacket.  Shame about the Uber branding though.

Not sure what the outer material is though.  Felt like much more gossamer, light fabric than gortex and so draped better.

  2. Don't SISP jackets and insulators have clips to attach the two together? I'm sure they do.

I meant modify jackets to be able to join with an insulator.  I love my Visvim Nomad and would love to be able to button / snap an insulator in but it doesn't have mount points.

  3. would concur with TEKsevenZERO that a shell affords more versatility married with a insulator jacket compared with a just a waterproof insulated jacket.

your budget would allow to purchase for example a arc'teryx veilance field which can be purchased in the sales at around your budget but possibly not a separate insulator jacket but with the field as with all shells it can be worn with a chunky knit or sweat until you can afford the insulator jacket. also you don't have to use the arc'teryx veilance insulator with the field, I use a stone island shadow project one and works perfectly fine.

I want to do this but its such a pain in the ass stripping off the jacket and then the liner and then donning them both every time you go in and out.  It would be awesome if there was a way to bond buttons to the inside of a goretex jacket then you could stitch buttons to a down insulator and you're set.

Also, Lol @ new outlier line up.  I like their stuff but who the fuck needs a $250 sweatshirt?

    Outlier Slim Dungarees
    31
Had these for about a year but they were always too big

Worn ~ twice a week. Hard to rate quality because these do not age like denim. Only visible fault is the snag on the knee pic below that was from the factory - no other wear.
Have other pairs and can't say enough good things about these. Best damn investment.
    Sold

    Alden #8 Cordovan Longwings
7.5US (Barrie last so fits like an 8)
Worn ~ 6 times and stored with trees (9/10 condition)

  6. I'm back in.

Gave up chasing random girls all weekend + a few fun regulars to move in with GF in a new city.  Porn is reminding me too much of my past and killing my confidence in my ability to focus on one girl.  Need to rein shit in or else this monagamy thing is going to kill me.

I think I made it to 5 days last time but I hooked up a few times in that period.

  7. just wondering what the stock on virgils generally is at flagship F.I.L.'s in japan?

    usually have most sizes/styles? exclusives?

or is shit usually sold out in the common sizes/popular models?

will probably scope out shibuya and kyoto FIL's and hoping to land a pair before heading off to nepal...

They sell out so best to call ahead if you're going way out of your way.  I was their about a month ago and they said there were no 8.5 Virgils in Japan and that had happened to me in past seasons as well.

  8. Moving Tokyo -> NY, and debating whether to pick up a suit here before I leave or wait till I get to the states.   Im thick in the chest and upper back so the only Japanese suits I can wear are more expensive United Arrows stuff (about 700US).  Where in NY is a good to pick up a good, slim / modern suit?  Sounds silly but I havent lived in the US in 10 years and have never lived in a major US city so not sure whats what.

Also, would a gore-tex shell, uniqlo premium down jacket, sweater and some danners with smart wool socks be enough for winters (might do something like Veilance Insulated Field Jacket instead) or do I need a full on parka/down jacket.

  9. Any have experience with http://www.lookmatic.com? Drunken friend caught me with a solid right to the temple and need new glasses.

Was looking at Tart Arnels or FDRs but 65-95$ for replicas sounds way better than 35,000 yen for just Tart frames + 1.5k for examination and lenses locally.

Is there a huge difference in quality between taking the empty frames to an optician here and getting lenses put it vs. getting a prescription / pupillary measurement here and sending it to the online shop? Cost would be way different (65$ for frames only + ~150$ for examination and lenses here vs. 95$ for the frames shipped with prescription lenses in)

-basically, if you send an accurate prescription will online glasses shops give you good lenses or are they cutting too many corners?

  10. Omotesando Koffee was pretty good to my uncultured buds.  Pretty cool place to take a girl except you gotta sit in the street and cary out your own garbage.  Mud coffee is alright but fucking smokers on the deck.

  11. Need some help guys..That's some older stuff dating back to FW12 I think Does anyone know if this jacket has ever hit Visvim shops? Haven't seen a single photo of it despite the images from "study and practice" exhibition in Hong kong:

    visvim_elmendorf.jpg

    I thought it's ELMENDORF PICARO / INDIGO:

    visvim_picaro_indigo.jpg

but the color looks dramatically different.. I don't know if it's just the photos or are these two totally different jackets. Anyone can help?

I've seen it blue and brown.  "World of Tomorrow" at the Tokyo station marunochi side exit had blue last year and Im pretty sure I saw a brown one at the Harajuku store once.  Soooo expensive.

  12. A few questions:

    Jackets:

Will a Veilance insulated field jacket be enough to get me through a NY winter?  Tokyo is pretty mild so I've forgotten what bitter cold is like.

Same question for the combo of Gore-tex/Pertex shell plus fleece/down liner jacket (also - of the above which would be warmer to wear under a shell,Ive never used either).  It would be great if I could get an extra seasons use from an uninsulated jacket (like a Veilance field jacket) and then add a decent fleece/down when necessary.  I have a feeling either it wont be warm enough or will cause binding at the arm pits on slimmer cut, "fashion" shells like Veilance, WM, Visvim etc.

    Underwear:

Not sexy but what are people doing to clean their sweat wicking items?  Perhaps a way to re-apply the anti-bacterial stuff they're treated with at the factory? Some of my Uniqlo Silk Dry shirts gets a nasty smell that cant be washed out/comes back after a few hours wear.

The Silk Dry shorts never get as bad but they cause just a general funk as compared to wearing cotton boxer briefs.  Kinda stuck at the moment because cotton cotton boxer briefs are going to suck as the weather heats up.

  13. Is there anything like Layrite that isnt going to start running down my face halfway through the day?  Even in the winter - come 3-4 o'clock I have a thin sheen of the stuff on my cheeks, jaw etc.  Same problem with Cool Grease (Japanese pomade), and Murrays (takes longer to start running).  I have a slicked back 70/30 split mens haircut and very soft straight hair so need something pretty strong to keep things in place.

Honestly, Layrite is great but Im surprised at how little people comment on the running problem - its hard to see but feels pretty gross -I have use a wet cloth to wipe my face a few times a day to feel comfortable.  Looks great though.

  14. Just to make things more confusing: I think the waist measurements on the site are off.  I originally got Keirins in 30 and 31 and could barely fit two fingers in between my stomach and the waistband on 31s and yet found the fit billowy and unflattering.  Extra fabric around the hips out made me look like I was wearing English riding pants and overall they fit like drop crotch dad jeans.  I swapped those out for a 31 in SD and the wait is far, far looser.  Without a belt on i can fit my closed fist - lenthwise- in between the band and my stomach.  At the same time, with a belt they look perfect! They fit much looser in the leg  than my APC NS in a 29 waist but still very slim, great range of movement, no billowing, and no fabric bunching despite the cinched belt.  I hate super skinny or carrot pants and I consider these a perfect slim cut while Keirins seemed to fit like they were cut "husky".  For those on the fence you should absolutely get a range of sizes and cuts and see how they work on you.  I'm an athletic 172cm and 70 kilos for the record (5'7, 155 pounds).

    Pro's:

Fantastic pants, don't get dirty, never seem to need to be washed, only slightly water resistant but dry incredibly fast and great in hot weather, great for travel but look good with just about any level of dress.  As far as comfort and practicality, I now think of my APC and PBJ jeans as latex bondagewear and armored leggings respectively.

    Cons:

The inside fabric really needs to be the same color as the outside - when you roll them you get a black/blue contrast which never looks good.  Also, as others have mentioned, the  button is way to tall for such thin fabric. These are only minor complaints - my only real criticism is the price.  I understand both sides of the argument but it is impossible to justify the cost to a civilian.  My gf looked at me like I was retarded when she heard how much they cost and my friends immediately loose interest when they see the price on the site. I suppose sales are going strong so who cares though.

  15. Post in the Tokyo thread in supertravel. Your question is way too broad anyway. What do you like? If you like Rick and we tell you denim is cheaper in ameyoko then its not going to do anyone any good.

  16. Crosspost from the shoes thread. best shoes I've ever had. So much more comfortable that my alden longwings etc. went down a half size from brannock. super soft, super light super flexible

  17. This is a lot of trouble for just 2k Yen off.

    You're a richer man than I.

I gather from the other thread you might still be in Tokyo? Im open to offers. Figure there's a lot of futarians in/visiting Tokyo who wouldn't mind saving a few bucks. 64K is the price of their most popular item so no harm in asking. I live in central Tokyo so its super easy for me to meet up.

Will nix the thread if no ones interested though.
