  1. I would, however, be interested to know what people are carrying in that belt shit that could possibly offset the hindrance of wearing it.

presumably it's all the shit everyone else would keep in their pockets, to preserve the integrity of yer whisker fades.

imo there's little point in having sweet fades on your jeans if you have to look like a status quo roadie when wearing them...

  2. there was a mini-discussion on here about a year ago - i bought a pair of scotch grain brogue boots by them, and then sold them on ebay as i embarked on a 'little' spree of Tricker's and then veldtschoen (can tricker's be described as a gateway boot-drug?!).

they seem ok for the money, similar to loake in build, quality and cost and i suspect that they're also only assembled in england as i don't think they're a 'shoe-maker' in the sense that crockett, tricker's et al could be considered as such. some of their leather seems to be a little flimsy, though, and i've wondered if tk maxx are actually selling their (un-marked) seconds alongside their regular stock. yours seem pretty decent, though.

their stuff seems to pop up a lot in tk maxx though, and a lot of other stuff by them can be found there under different brand names. i bought someone a pair of their blue suede brogue boots recently as a present - goodyear-welted for about twenty quid in their clearance section, so a bit of a bargain if you're not too up your own arse when it comes to provenance of your footwear (i possibly fall into this category...).

yeah, there's been a load of them cropping up over the last 12 months, but never in my size, or more than i was prepared to pay (tbh, i was never going to pay much for green suede brogues...). 7 quid was too low to turn down though....
  3. I just picked up a pair of 517's, came out of a 1970's suitcase apparently - they look newer, but I dont know how to date them (number 2 on top button, talon zipper, bar-tacked pockets and a little e red tab) - must take some pics when i get the chance.

the 70s suitcase lie was the exact same one an ebay seller used when selling me some early 80s redlines. wasn't that bothered as it was still a decent price, but i think it's a pretty standard way of implying an item is older than it actually is...

talon zipper means pre-83ish though i think? all levis branded after that...

  4. don't think i can risk the washer again tbh - put it through last night and the edge of the collar has noticeably deteriorated. it is the best part of 50 years old, so i guess it's probably best to treat it with kid gloves.

noticed the reciept that was in the box it came in was from a car garage down south somewhere - i suspect it may have been hanging in the corner there for the past however many years...

  5. i wonder if the sizing issue is just them refusing to use vanity sizes? i don't know what it's like a few inches up, but while i mainly fit into 30" waist jeans, my actual waist is about 32.5. in the example below, a 41" waist would shrink to about 38" no? which is the actual waist size of someone who normally buys a 36 waist? so if you size from your actual waist measurements rather than your usual trouser size, it should work. in theory.

A person's waist is 36, so they follow the instructions to size up by 2" and they buy a size 38, which measures 41".

  6. Yeah but while we're guessing, we're spending. Same as the sizing issues, I mean why get the right fit first time when you have to guess by buying two or three pairs online before getting it right. makes good buisness sense to levis.

not really. satisfied repeat custom is surely better than someone giving up on your brand after a few failed purchases?
  7. that's a fine looking pair too - not much wear on 'em.

these are... less unblemished. and there's two left shoes.

details are identical as far as I can tell to my lotus. the only lettering you can make out in the insoles is 'guaranteed waterproof' in a box - did only lotus have this guarantee?

edit: no joy back at the bootmarket today - she might be there next tuesday though, the tues/thurs markets do have some different stallholders...

  8. how on earth did you manage that?! nice tricker's, by the way...

they looked like a pair... i guess i didn't think to check they matched, as you don't expect it do you?

i suppose the carboot stall owner i bought them from probably still has two right shoes in the back of her car...

  9. Come on, that's a girls' bag! Give it to your wife or daughter or even swap it with your gran's tartan shopping trolley!

turned out you were right. so i gave it to the mrs, who needed something to take stuff to uni in.
