hd2 can dual boot.
Not stock though That's more of what I mean so I don't have to worry about getting software updates.

im going to honduras for a a week and a half. Apparently the area im staying in is pretty rough and doesn't always have electricity or clean water...
Could you guys give me some suggestions on some essential stuff i might want to have on me? Much Thanks.
You could get a steripen to sterilize the water: http://www.backcountry.com/hydro-photon-steripen-adventurer-opti
Or a Katadyn water purifier: http://www.katadyn.com/usen/katadyn-products/products/katadynshopconnect/katadyn-water-filters-ultralight-series-products/katadyn-mini-1/
And a USB solar charger would be handy: http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/travelpower/c5a7/?cpg=froogle
Other than that...
Backpack
Camera (extra batteries!)
water bottle
pocket knife/multi-tool
handkerchief
flashlight

I know this is an Android thread, but man I really want to have a phone that can dual boot into Android *and* WP7. Triboot into WebOS, or Meego would be awesome. Supposedly VMWare is working on this, but who knows when it will be ready. *sigh* One can dream.

Yo thx, but I was wondering how you carried your "iems" as in ear buds, it wasn't an "items" typo.
I'll get around to posting a carry vid soon too, hopefully.
You could get a small leather pouch, that's what I carry mine in.

both of those lights are practically obsolete models. Arc AAA is still using 5mm nichia LEDs, they are like the enthusiast's Fenix E01, on paper anyway.
the LD01 isn't too remarkable compared to the Preon offerings from 4sevens and there is a huge market of those mid-range 1xAAA anyway...
but you missed the point that he asked for a FLESH light and not a flashlight. ehhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I did miss that. **swoosh**
Anyways, the reason I like those lights is their size. They fit in your pocket without being intrusive and bulging out.
I actually haven't ever looked at the Preon before, just the Quark. I'll pick up a Preon in the future though.

those are too big for EDC purposes
bullet vibrator on a breakaway lanyard ftw
brane: can you recommend a keychain fleshlight that runs on a single AAA?
Obviously not brane but the Arc AAA light is highly recommended: http://www.arcflashlight.com/arc-aaa.shtml
I think it's the smalled AAA light available, or that I know of.
I have a Fenix LD01: http://www.amazon.com/Fenix-mini-LD01-Lumens-Flashlight/dp/B001K3HJXM
I am not sure how many lumens the Arc has but the LD01 has 80 (max).

I was in the same boat as you a couple weeks back. My relationships with IEMs are too often short-lived so I wasn't looking to spend too much on them anymore.
http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/450407/multiple-iem-shootout-v-3
I found both of these good reads. Looked around the web and found that their positive reviews were echoed by many others.
I'm not an audiophile but what is the word on Shures? I had a pair of the SE115s but lost them when they fell out of my pocket at some point. Are there other brands I should know of? I don't really want o have to join another forum and getting addicted another way to spend my money.
I've also had my eye on ThinkSound but not sure if they are form over function or not.
And before someone gets their panties in a twist... I carry headphones daily for when I'm on the train and at work.

Of course you do.
Why would I lie?
I just took a pic off my iPhone so quality isn't great..: http://www.flickr.com/photos/46341877@N02/5396678684/

I already have an Atwood ghost and the Atwood credit card knife.
But more of what I mean is the Mini-Son of Prything, Goblin knife, Wildcard DLC. Etc etc. Those blow the new stuff out of the water like the Larva and other stuff, it just isn't nearly as impressive.

well in that case are you trained to belay yourself? dont you think it would be just as practical to keep something at your office desk for such an improbable emergency situation? like actual climbing rope and harnesses? yes this can support your weight, yes paracord can support your weight but not if that shit is cutting your leg off.
lets just file this whole idea under, justifying ridiculous items then posting them for trolling glory.
Wait what? You think I'm trolling? I linked those because they're relevant, people were discussing grappling hooks. Those grappling hooks collapse and would easily fit into a messenger bag or backpack.
My point is, having one on hand if you work a high rise would actually be fairly useful in the event that something happened. Even if you fucked up your hands and even fell the last 3-4 stories, at least you'd survive. They would definitely increase your chances of survival.
But yeah... fine let's move on.
Anyone notice that Peter Atwood's stuff really seems to have gone downhill lately? I know earlier in the thread people were mentioning what a ripoff the lame beads and shot glasses were, but if you look through his archives in 2007-2008 he was making way more complex and useful things priced only moderately more than the stuff he sells now.
Is it because he got so popular so now he can just take advantage of collectors who buy anything labeled Atwood or is the dude just burnt out? Even still why doesn't he make some of the old designs anymore? Do they get retired permanently?

^ LOL
Well I'm pretty sure the conversation started (at least for me) with the Mini which is slightly larger than a peanut lighter. Def worthy of EDC since it's so compact. Plus its just cool to fuck with... Let's be honest.
None of these are for actual climbing (Except whatnicholas1987 posted). Snagging items, lowering, pulling up/around items? Sure I could see that.
Plus its been mentioned prior in this thread so I don't see why it can't be discussed here.
Also, I work in a 10 story building on the 6th floor. God forbid the floor below me catch on fire and for some reason I can't use the stairs I could at least have one of these in my bag, break a window, and lower myself down from the building. If I just broke the window and tried to jump, I really doubt I'd survive it's completely concrete below...

No idea. I know they say you're not supposed to use it to climb or descend and its not going to hold your weight, but in an emergency survival situation I'm sure I'd try it.
I just really thought it was a cool thing to own and the fact the military is using it makes it even more appealing. If it comes in handy even once I'll be happy.
What about this one used by the US Army: http://www.baledefence.com/grappling_hook.htm
Looks pretty cool. They also sell it here: http://webrevolutionary.com/price/TRGear-Military-Grabber-Grappling-Hook-Collapsible-USMC_270691054431.html
Here's another that says it supports up to 1600lbs: http://www.botachtactical.com/cagrho.html

These are nice and fairly cheap: http://www.rei.com/product/626968
Stainless, not titanium. But would be nice to have on you so you don't have to use crappy plastic stuff. Snowpeak makes titanium utensils but they're ~$30 for a fork, knife, and spoon. Not bad, but still stainless will do just fine.

thoughts/opinions/experiences regarding emerson's mini a100?
I like that a lot, reminds me of a Microtech UTX70, but I actually prefer the Emerson's looks and like that it has a whole to attach a lanyard in it.
Get it!

why not a delta?
I got my delta a few days before the New Years and its been great. I find the locking function of the cap pretty irritating, so I tend to just close and not lock it if I'm just sitting at my desk. Other than that, the changes they've made are big improvements over the previous design (my coworker has a kor one so I've gotten a good look at it).
Didn't Iron Man/Tony Stark use the Kor One? I think both designs are cool, but sometimes it's worth the bragging rights to say "I have Iron Man's water bottle."
I use a Sigg, I have the army one that came with the stainless steel cup around it but managed to loose that... :| I still like it because it's a thinner Sigg though.

Made in USA is a big reason. All 123 batteries have a long shelf life.
Thanks, I guess it's like buying Fender Strat made in America vs Japan or Mexico, the extra cost is really just paying for their pensions (which I don't have anything against it's just too pricey for me).

Looking to upgrade my basic carabiner to one of these keyhooks, anyone got a link to one in a nickel finish for less than $20?
They come from this ebay seller: http://myworld.ebay.com/x-kaijin-x/
Message him and he can list one for you.

Does anyone know why the Surefire Titan T1A is so expensive: http://www.surefire.com/The-T1A-Titan
I like the aesthetics of it, but it's outrageously priced. Is it just because it uses 123a batteries and then would have a longer shelf life when not being used?

sorry, don't mind me, i have nothing else to contribute to this thread
You make a bigger deal out of something than is necessary. Wow there were like 4 comments about cars on a thread with over 600+ pages, and one joke about a zombie outbreak and being prepared...
Much ado about nothing.

plz stop derailing this thread with vaguely 'relevant' stories
this thread is not about zombie outbreaks or anything like that
and next time you neg me with 'who cares' for positively moderating this thread when nobody else does, have a big enough peen for it to show red
thx
Dude quit bitching, that story is completely relevant in that it's a joke. You must be a real fun guy constantly bossing people around and getting some superiority trip.
Get a life dude.

Gerber has really inconsistent quality. At $30, your money is better spent elsewhere.
Assuming you already have a dedicated light, you could grab a Leatherman Juice S2 for only $5 more with better build quality and more tools. Or if you want something more full-sized, you can get a Fuse for under $30.
Have you seen the Gerber Kick-Axe? It looked so awesome, it was basically a collapsible/folding axe. Anyways... they never produced it probably because like you said they have really inconsistent production quality and someone would've probably ended up hurting themselves badly.
I'd post pictures but I don't know how? Do you just use html? Can anyone link me to a how to? (sorry n00b here).

Anyone see this story: http://edition.cnn.com/2011/US/01/27/utah.base.lockdown/?hpt=T2
At least when the zombie outbreak occurs, it's likely the people in this thread will at least be prepared.

Anne Hathaway as Catwoman??????
??????
Tom Hardy as Bane???!?!
http://www.slashfilm.com/anne-hathaway-catwoman-tom-hardy-bane-dark-knight-rises/
It should've been Krysten Ritter...
Also, Cap looks like it will be goofy/terrible but Chris Evans is okay.. Push was good.
Thor will probably be decent.
The new Spider-Man looks definitely better than the entire other trilogy. Tobey McGuire is the most boring uninteresting person. If you looked up bland in a dictionary I would think he'd be the picture on the side.
What I would killll for in a comic movie is for someone to make Superman Red Son or Old Man Logan. In Red Son, Superman is born in USSR and is a communist hero psycho and basically Lex Luthor is the hero. Batman is a freedom fighter... so awesome, but it will never be made. Old Man Logan is super dark but I think is equally less likely to happen. Logan fighting Red Skull and Hulk is priceless though... but I doubt it'll ever be made. :|

The Android Cell Phone Thread
in supertech
Posted
The problem is Samsung is in the business to sell phones, and as many as they can, not in developing a software platform for Android.
Motorola does the same thing: http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/03/cliq-xt-wont-get-android-2-1-upgrade-motorolas-word-as-good-a/
Motorola went on for months about how a 2.1 update was coming but now finally after making promises they say, nevermind suckers!
It pisses me off, I wish Google would force the manufactures/carriers to give the phones at least 3-4 software updates minimum and set a reasonable time for delivery like 2-3 months after it first comes out. Maybe they will?
