  1. hey, i'm back in sydney for the time being. still getting settled, decompressing after 18 months in the uk and lining up accom. i was thinking about renting in chippendale again but i'm also considering somewhere suburban and chill like croydon or haberfield.

cool that you guys are stocking boris now. i'm not a big fan of ann's spring collection... pyjamas and slippers! last spring was infinitely better. i'm sure you'll have some worthy pieces in your buy, though.

  2. ^ food looks great, man. whereabouts in chippendale?

i lived in a house on abercrombie st near the block from 2004-2006. things around chippendale have changed a bit since then...

my favourite local cafe was cafe ella on abercombie near lawson. good, unpretentious stuff. their chewy blueberry bagels are strangely addictive.

anything interesting coming up at assin?

  3. hi all. i recently moved to london and just had a serious glasses mishap. i need a new pair asap. i'm looking for a good 'all-in-one' optometrist in london who can test my eyes, sell me dope frames (c&g, dita etc.) and get the lenses fitted. scanning previous sufu threads i've come up with eyeworks in sw7 and the eye company in soho. has anyone had experience with either, or can you recommend an alternative? thanks.

  4. ^ i also got ahold of a couple of beanstalks and tried them out this week. super soft and lightweight, and i'm very impressed with the fit. they're definitely going into rotation with my jils and american apparels, and i'll be ordering more in the future.

  5. i've got a pair of year-old leather and suede lanvin hi-tops that are smelling atrocious. i spent way too much on these to retire them now... any suggestions? if they were just vans i'd throw them in the washing machine but that's not an option here. i've heard cedar shoe trees work well for dress shoes but not sure about sneakers...

serious responses preferred (but not expected).

  6. yeah it's quite central :) well if you and anyone else up for a catch up drinks, lunch whatever... let me know... I had lunch with a squirrel at Hyde Park today so that's the extent of my social life at the moment... haha OK I'm exaggerating but seriously today I had lunch with a bloody squirrel...

Anyway if a future meetup happens, I'll be down, if only to ameliorate the previous one that went down many years ago...

    i'm down. anyone else?

  7. if you go to assin you could pop in to ariel books across the road - it's quite nice for a browse. and then it's a quick walk to supply. after that you could walk down crown street (past via alley) and get a coffee somewhere (bills if you can be bothered walking that far).

  8. I swear by American Apparel black crew-necks (colloquially referred to as the "2001" tee). But you have to buy the "sustainable" one: they're made from organic (and higher-quality) cotton and retain their shape and colour better than the regular black 2001. (They're differentiated by green writing on the neck tag, as opposed to black writing on the regular 2001s.) And make sure you wash cold or dry-clean.

At $17, I find the price-to-quality ratio pretty good. Wear 'em for a season, then replace. I also own some very expensive "basic" tees but find myself defaulting to AA most days, both for look and comfort.

  9. Went there last week when they just opened for business in the morning, same story. It's a shame, such a cool space they have.

I'm intrigued by all these scathing reviews...

Are they stocking anything notable that's not available at Parable or Assin?

  10. Stokey is nice, and you have a Whole Foods, which should help offset the food shock you will experience coming from Melbourne... Transport links (rail, bus) aren't the best though IMO. Guess is depends on your mode of transport.
