  1. I don't think those details should hold you back from buying the denim jacket. As long as you don't get a size that is too small to make the snaps come embarrassingly undone, I don't think it's a deal breaker. On denim jackets like Type 3s, I think no pockets look a lot better and keep the shape clean.

Here are some Mark McNairy overcoats here

He also made some slimmed-down Spiewak coats (I think?), but I can't find an online retailer who picked those up.

I guess if you wanted a bit from both worlds, you could get a waxed Barbour jacket with a corduroy collar.

Ended up copping the denim. Pretty stoked on this thing. Selvedge made-in-USA denim jacket for $160? If J Crew sold something similar they'd prolly charge $198.

  2. hey man, you can't be wearing your GAP thermal underneath your madras Thom Browne shirt. you're doing it wrong. this isn't a flannel shirt bro

madras shirts are thin, and made with the summer in mind. you might be able to pull it off if you throw a nice sweater over it, but don't treat it like some pendleton shirt that you can wear untucked and unbuttoned. you just look sloppy.

    But it's plaid? Doesn't that mean it's a flannel shirt??? (10)

  3. After watched the entire series about 3-4 times, I've concluded that Season 5 is better than people give it credit for. It's still the black sheep of the bunch, but it's still very solid TV.

Oddly enough, Season 3 sucked the 2nd time but was really awesome the 3rd time around.

  4. ^Horrible explanation.

They're casual yet steez heavy. This lends them an ability to be worn with a variety of clothing that "dress shirts" dont... jeans, chinos, corduroy, bathing suits, boots, mocs, etc. When paired with these staples the synergy is heavy and effortless. They're also comfortable and easy to maintain, if they get a little wrinkled they look good, whereas a standard broadcloth shirt just looks peasant without being pressed.

  5. I have a large neck to body ratio, so unless I heavily size down on the neck, BB SF shirts tend to looks like aprons on me (hence your tucking comment I guess). While I enjoy the steezyness of a non-iron BB shirt, the fabric is usually treated with some crazy chemicals that make me sweat like a dog during the summer. The regular oxford cloth is actually pretty bomb.

I've been a big fan of the BB ESF shirts, b/c they run shorter and you can get a perfect MTM feel too. Does anyone know how the Black Feece's compare to BB ESF??

I might have to bite the bullet one day and cop a Gitman but that price point is really prohibitive.

I'm between a 38 and a 40 on Barbour and the shit just looks like crap on me. I need to be about 2 inches taller and 25 lbs lighter to really pull off the 38.

BTW. I have an extremely lightly used Barbour bedale in a size 38 if anyone wants!

  7. Only thing holding me back from the denim is snap buttons and no pockets. Other than that, it does command a noticeable about of hot fiyah.

The McNairy jernt is waxed which makes it kinda cool, but I agree it's very muted. I need to check on sizing before any guns are jumped.

BTW - where are his overcoats sold??

  8. Yup. Cloth is too soft. Fit is too loose. Collar is WAY too small.

I think the Brooks Brothers Extra Slim Fit might be a good 2nd fiddle, but shit I didn't realize how untouchable the old Uniqlo shirts were. If they were still available I'd pay 3x whatever they're charging now and stock up.

  9. I stupidly threw mine out. It literally had a fully glass of red wine dumped on the arm and chest, not sure if it was salvageable.

Gitman Brothers Vintage (probably the most popular shirting brand at the moment) - Gitman is really overpriced and runs too slim for me.

Wolf vs Goat (My personal fave for it's fit) - never heard of these guys - I'll have to check it out.

Our Legacy - Not a fan. I have an OL oxford and its too shirt, the collar blows and the cloth ain't that heavy.

    Band of Outsiders - Ditto.

Steven Alan - Not a fan of their shirting at all.

Wings and Horns - I'll check this out.

Honestly, it sucks that Unqilo dumped it and changed up those oxfords. They were damn near perfect.

  10. Anything new on the block? I had a white oxford from Uniqlo (few years old) that met its maker via a glass of red wine. I haven't seen anything that comes close to fit of quality (especially for the dollar) and the new Uniqlo oxfords don't cut it anymore.

    What should I check out?

  11. yeahhhh a couple of friends and i are going in a couple weeks. it's somewhere i've wanted to go for a really long time, i love martin picard and everything to do with eating pigs

i'm about to try making some fish tacos, i'm excited

Do it. It's the most unique restaurant experience I've had in my life. Fuck David Chang, fuck every french technique wielding chef in NYC or SF, this is truely original. Great spot with awesome service too.

  12. Oh dear. My friends took me to Montreal this weekend for my bachelor party and we did dinner at Pied De Cochon. It exceeded all of my expectations, but we were all too drunk to think of taking pictures.

Highlights were the foie gras poutine, duck carpacio, pig's head and duck in a can. I was surprised at how awesome the pig's head was - it came lined with PDC mashed potatoes (potatoes mixed w/ cheese curds) and roasted scallops.
