  1. Hey gang. So unfortunately the S5000BKB are not going to be for me. The superblack denim and dark blue thread are honestly the hottest shit out there right now and I love them, but the truth is the 5000 cut doesn't flatter me. I will be putting them up in the supermarket as soon. Soot me an offer if you are interested in a size 32, especially if you are in the SF bay area.

This was bumming me out pretty good until the black shadows became available showed up to console me. Just soaked them yesterday. Great jeans! The 710 is exactly what I wanted and as soon as I sell some things I am going to have to get the 19oz indigos. The pics I took didn't really turn out but I will put some up in short order.

Having had this black zero denim twice now let me tell you that it will stretch as much as you need it too. Even if you can just barely get them on to begin with they ought to be comfortable eventually. (BTW only one good soak is required too IM0. I did mine tap hot for a couple of hours, changing the water once, and they were ready to go.) Roughly you will end up with the same fit as they were pre-soak.

  2. I'm sure I would have already convinced you satya if I wasn't having trouble sizing these, the prospective expense of an additional pair having dampened somewhat my enthusiasm. Don't let this fool you though and don't sleep on these. The denim is awesome I know that my trouble now will be totally worth it; I am going to wear these a lot and I want them to be perfect. As you would expect, the zero denim is very slubby and the construction of the jeans is great. The super darkness gives way to a chalky white fade, and quickly too. After only two days of wear, the crotch on this pair is already showing some serious fading potential. I expect very high contrast fades. What I like the most about these is the blue stitching however. It kind of tricks the eye into seeing the jeans as a very dark blue instead of black. So cool.

  3. IMO that fit is quite flattering on Giles, but I digress.

Wanted to point out that BIG has new Left Field duck pants in black and indigo, if anyone is interested. The indigo in particular is really nice looking, looks to be the same cone selvedge used in those Rogue Territory pants, but in a less ridiculously slim cut.

  4. Update on my S5000BKB:

I had a hard time shrinking these. Finally got the inseam to come down to 36 after a second soak, waist 33 (tagged 32). After wearing them today the waist is back at 35, which should be its upper limit, but it even acts like it could stretch further. The leg is still wider than I expected with the thigh = 12.75, knee = 9.5, and hem 8.75.

While the fit is good, it's more relaxed than I wanted, and I'm beginning to think that I should size down. I don't really want to soak a third time but I think that I may have to, to go down to a 31 seems crazy to me. They were so extra starchy to begin with, that could explain it. Or perhaps these are just running large, but that's unlikely given that the dry measurements were in line with the other 5000 cuts at BIG.

Besides possibly running big and/ or being shrink stubborn, the other notable thing about these is that these are quick to fade/mark. When I put up picks in a few day these will already have some character on them. I think th bkb denim will be like the IH-sbg in this regard.

  5. Size 32 has 34 waist, 13 thigh, and 38.5 inseam. I was expecting them to be slimmer in the leg, but they will probably shrink a bunch. I say that because the weave seems really loose. I remember my s5000bk being tighter and heavier. Although now that I am getting some water on them (starting with the legs), they are starting to feel familiar.

See the light peeking through when held up to the window.

  6. I got a package from 2nd this morning, tried to capture the moment before running off to work:

I'm not sure yet about the fit, but I really dig the denim and blue stitching. Probably keeping these. More on Mon.

  7. really, no opinions from you guys about the S5000BKB?

this really calls into question my black shadow plan. i had no idea these were out there.

edit: the blue stitching is very interesting. i wonder if the selvedge is still red and silver?

  8. I am interested in the SL-220x (straight leg, double black). Do these exist yet? Are they available? At SE, but not at SESF? I saw the ST slims on the Blue Owl website last night and they looked great, especially at that price. Are these rope dyed? What fading / evo can we expect? Will the sizing match the table on the SE and 3/16 webstores for the other straight leg models? What is the inseam? Is there a longer, like 37+ inseam available as implied by Blue Owl? Finally, how tight is the weave? Fully sanforized? Stretching? Shrinking? I apologize if some of these questions have already been covered in this or the self edge thread. Thank you.

  9. ^Fit you perfect Markmont. I'm not sure the color would look as fly on me, however. Has there been any talk of these Roy's in black duck? Other than the Carhartt Ropers or those old Left Field ones, anyone know of some other good duck pants in black?

  10. Beautiful deluxe model there Domu. And sweet jesus, neitenhosen, I didn't think anyone could be wearing their Jackknife more than me, but you obviously are. Amazing evo!

Good to hear Ande's moving forward, even if slowly. Looking forward to recieving another brown paper package from NZ.
